The way that Hades overdrives through this thing is gorgeous ❤

brilliant demo! i've watched multiple explainers from jhs but this is the one that made it click into place.

4:18 This! That! Yes! 🔥🙌 I've also been curious about this thing to do things like that and I was always curious if it could be a mic preamp as a bonus. Like, it's sitting in your pedalboard and you can plug a mic in without having to think about routing, or power supplies or whatever Edit: Btw, those spinning modules tricked me more than once into thinking something wasn't loading 🙃 I couldn't imagine what would by spinning ON TOP of the video I was watching 🤦♂️

Ohhh that is smart. Re the mic on the pedalboard. I have often wanted to use mics through pedal fx and it's been a faff, but this actually makes it much easier. That could well be a whole other video... hmmmMmMmMm. and haha. Those are from the Lubadh from Instruo. Such a cool module, but the spinny LEDs do trick me from time to time as well.

Nicely done leaning into the saturation there's a whole host of things I'd love to try this on.

I love that kind of bursting-at-the-seams type saturated sound!!

Loads of great info, thank you! I'll likely use mine nearly exclusively on guitar, bass and vocals but it's great to know what other kinds of use cases there are.

I love my colour boxes! Also… a palm tattoo! I can’t imagine how much that hurt. I had the OG colour box as well. I’m pretty sure it was 18v.
@StephenMcLeod2 ай бұрын
Yeah the v1 was a higher voltage I believe. The palm tattoo definitely hurt. I had both done at once along with the fingers. The worst physical pain I've ever experienced!

14:25 How did you ran your guitar through the colourbox without a cable? 🤔 Little TV magic there? 🙂 Nevertheless, this is exactly the demo I needed, thx so much!
@StephenMcLeod2 ай бұрын
Glad it was useful! And aye this was a composite as I layered multiple sounds through the colour box for it. Though I swear I had a cable for that shot...

only today i watched Josh's breakdown of how much it costs to make and sell a pedal, and how the more profitable pedals basically pay for the less profitable ones and the insight of how they have to average things... as he was saying it i was thinking "how much of a bargain must the colourbox be?!" im gonna buy one next. ive got the crayon and its great, but as youll probably know its a guitar centric device and i wanna run my condenser mic in to it. great vid

Does the ColurBox doesnt provide enough power to power a Condensor? that's crap if true. I mean. My 10 year old Scarlett 2i2 does that!
@StephenMcLeod2 ай бұрын
My guess would be that it wouldn't really be required for the pedal's intended purpose. Live you wouldn't want a condenser and in the studio you will be plugging into an interface anyway. Adding in 48v generation would add additional cost and make it less commercially attractive. Though I'm no engineer so...
@ShlomirBareket2 ай бұрын
@@StephenMcLeod fair enough. It seem to be more of a guitar pedal type thing with the option for mike pre-, sort of like the Clover.

Haha, I should have watched to the end before commenting; I thought the unit was the 10 and not the V2 due to the color. Yeah, sticker shock, but I have paid more for a single pedal for sure. I was very close to buying a tube-based thing maybe 15 years ago that was in a similar price range after correcting for inflation, and the controls were very limited, but the primary goal there was as a warm preamp for acoustic guitars. I would be interested in a desktop stereo version (for more $$ of course) without a switch for stomping on. I am aware that much of the difficulty of pedal design is durability. I have been itching for a Boum or an Analog Heat years.

I know all about the lust for the tubes... I built a couple of tube modular things before, and considered a tube compressor, but I am resisting!!
