George needs a big lesson in how to speak with humility. I’m a coach. I would have told her buy food first, keep lights on, keep car going, keep clothes. THEN pay what you can towards credit cards. The advice here is INSANE. It’s totally inappropriate for an 86 year-old woman. That existing credit card debt doesn’t matter. It just doesn’t. She doesn’t need to sell her house to pay it off. She needs to hold onto her house for dear life, as it’s protected under Florida law as her homestead. If she can get some help from her daughter, she can survive without increasing it. She should talk to a lawyer. Florida is full of lawyers who specialize in issues that impact seniors, and full of lawyers who will provide her with free legal services and help her develop an actual plan. Selling her house, moving into an apartment and getting a job are NOT the best options. And Ramsey Solutions should pull this video or add on to it to recommend that she seek professional help.

I mean that's what you get when you have personalities who just regurgitate whatever Dave says. The mark of an educated professional is nuance. It's an excellent filter in this age where people online say whatever sounds good to them and then have the audacity to put themselves in a position to offer advice to people who need actual help from real professionals. To mislabel oneself as a professional is reckless at best.

@@Nonsense116 I could have given this woman so much better advice such as she shouldn't sell her house and buy another or move into a regular apartment. She needs to check into senior houseing that here in PA takes 33% of your income for rent, food stamps, check into Medicaid for any senior programs. I don't get health insurance through Medicaid, but I am on another program where they pay my medication co-pay and other things. The problem is these two think about retirement from the vantage point of having a chunk of money in the bank for retirement while some of us never managed that. Although I do have some now. But there are programs out there that can help and they need to know about them as none of their advice was helpful.

We are all just one medical bill away from being flat broke in the USA. Suggesting going back to work at 86? Maybe work from home on a computer, but just staying awake would be difficult at that age.

What a terrible way to speak to a lady who is clearly going through a very, very difficult time. Telling her “We didn´t set ourselves for a bright future in retirement. This is part of it. We have to deal with the ramifications” with such sarcasm! She is not a child who needs a lesson. She is a senior person, who is scared and who needed a friend. Mr. Ramsey handles these situations very, very differently.

The worst advice I have ever heard on Ramsey. Telling an 86 year old woman to get a job is pathetic. How about ask her to get a roommate, host a college student, etc.

Before comments are turned off, I'd like to say I'm ashamed of the way they handled this. They seemed so arrogant and had no common sense or reasoning. Who in their right mind would treat an 86 year old lady like the way they did. They don't always have to be right about everything and go by the book. I hope this elderly lady gets the real help she needs because she didn't get any help at all from this call.

How about renting the rooms or moving to a trailer park. I’m sure there were more options. At this point there’s no reason to spend what’s left of her life stressing over anything but her well being. This is so dystopian, i can’t believe the editors didn’t pick up on it in the review. How they rush to the ending and okay the music as he tells her in the last 10 seconds “oh yeah and sell your dog!” sell everything because money is the most important thing… like damn. Imagine working 19- 80 and the young advise you to die on the Walmart floor! like that’s 60 years and she’s got nothing much to show for backbreaking work….just work until you die, coz u contributed nothing to society, like damn. Tax money is for these people. USA is so dystopian, here in Sweden no one would dare tell a dying or ill woman to hustle! Jeez Louise. Yeah, work until those bones break. the house will be sold and pay off those debts, she needs to enjoy the life she has left. She’s 86 with leukaemia, she may not have much time left! she lives alone… isolation will kill her quicker than the stress of having a furry companion. The last minutes jade is like so uncomfortable. she was using this call like a counselling hotline, like crisis. Money is not the main issue here, it’s care for the elderly!

True. And also pride. Old people are often too proud to ask for what they need, particularly the Greatest and Silent Generations. So they suffer in silence. This woman has a daughter and needs to do as the daughter says and ask her for help.

You deserve the cuddles. Accept $100-200/mo from your daughter if she can help you. Rent out a room or two if you’re still struggling! You sound like a lovely woman. You’ve done the best you can under very difficult circumstances. Everything will be ok.

@whatevergoesforme51296 ай бұрын
Agree. And I have seen a lot of other good advice suitable to her circumstances from other commenters. Answers should be tailored to the needs of the caller and not a one size fits all. Even a reverse mortgage might be helpful since with leukemia, she is nearing her end (even though I know reverse mortgage schemes are rip-offs and a big no no for Ramsey and his cohorts like CC). However, this guy host and some heartless commenters here prefer that advice be given with put downs because a caller should not be thin-skinned or a snowflake, according to them. What good will shaming her do her now? She knew that life sucks and no one is making excuses for her mistakes. It is what it is. And I don't buy the excuses of the shills here that this was done to warn us about not saving for our future (as if we don't know that already if we follow this show LOL). The old lady was explaining her expenses but they did not want to hear her out. Had they listened they could have told her what to cut (aside from the dog, but she needs it for companionship since people are not robots), what to sell (not just the house), etc. But they just stuck to their usual script without any nuance. She has issues with her daughter, so now is the time to tell her to make amends since at her age, she should try to create good memories with her daughter. This is supposed a Christian-leaning show, right?
