I've spent the last three years weightlifting and my clean and jerk (126 kg) still haven't passed by bench (136 kg). My bench has still somehow gone up without ever training it the past 3 years lol.
@josephparkes6412 Жыл бұрын
Impressive for bench to go up? Have you done anything for pec development? Otherwise I could imagine you’ve gained a lot tricep strength from overhead pressing?
@JohnWL Жыл бұрын
@@josephparkes6412 I assume it's from the overhead strength in new positions (jerk and PP have obviously gone up tremendously), upper back strength, and body weight gain? My bench and OHP were the most trained lifts before weightlifting that's why I've been surprised they have hung on and even gone up a bit. My OHP only has gone up 84 kg to 87 kg. Although if I ran a OHP specific strength block I am sure I'd hit mid 90s. OHP is no longer a mainstay in training. Lots of jerks and PP though.

I definitely bench more than I can power clean. I don't do a ton of it, but I phase it in and out of the program every so often (3-9 weeks). I do it more for being the base for strict overhead press and push press. My highest 1 rep bench press is 305 but I very rarely go after that number so I tend to work to a top set of 275-285 for sets of a 3 reps. So far only been able to work up to about 175 lb power clean. I've tried learning clean and jerk, but I'm not fast enough and/or my timing isn't dialed in. Snatch? Haven't been able to wrap my head around it yet. I can "throw" 95-115 up over my head without a ton of effort but there's no technique there. Plus, that snatch grip deadlift...I've done it a few times and it is so goddamn difficult for me.
