This was a great movie. People who say it was crap don’t have good taste in movies. ONJ was incredible in the movie, and Gene Kelly was incredible too. The music soundtrack for the movie is one of the best ever of any movie of all time. Almost every song in the movie was incredible. ONJs music was just incredible. ONJ has to be the most incredible lady for the combination of voice and beauty, she was one of the most beautiful ladies of all time, and then with one of the most incredible voices too. She sang Physical for the Australian entry for the Worlds Fair for 1982.

My brother and I saw this movie when it first came out on cable, on HBO I think, probably in 82 or 83. I was around 7 years old at the time, my brother probably 9. Xanadu became the first album that me and my brother ever asked our parents to buy us. We didn't care too much for the plot of the movie, but Olivia Newton-John was hot, and the music was awesome. The album is still, in my opinion, the greatest soundtrack of all-time.

This whole films addresses the funadmental human condition of self-aware consciousness, creativity and self doubt, all without ever failing to be fabulous. It's posibly my favourite film. I think being obsessed with this film as a kid informed the rest of my life. Literally if everyone just chilled out for a bit and danced around all floaty and cool the world would be a much nicer place.

I watched this movie as a teenager. I feel in love with the actors and music. It made me sad when Olivia Newton John died. She had the voice you will never forget. I really like this because everyone needs a muse. If you read Greek mythology, these were the daughters of Zeus. Their soul function was to go out and visit mankind and to inspire them to be better and greater. This amazing dance when they all return to life always made me in awe. I have never been one from musicals or dance, but this was one of the best shows of its time. The passing of Olivia hit me more than I thought it would.

Olivia's character is Terpsichore. The muse of dance. There is a part of the movie where she tries to tell her real name to the main character, and actually says the first half of the real name before she's interrupted. Her mother was Mnemosyne (also voiced in the movie), the goddess of memory. This scene is their divine transition to the mortal plane. The image is a gateway.

The thing I have noticed - the 1980s dopiness that was originally attributed to this film no longer seems to exist. Now people are seeing it, albeit with pretty clumsy CGI, as positive and inspiring. Holy this is GOOD, so poignant to the core ...Its one of those tune that resonates with the violins and the pretty /talented /neon glowing girls dancing around...I remember first time i heard that i was i young teen and i thought " i wanna comb my hair, wear my jeans jacket, meet hot chicks and roller skate under black lights til my legs fold back " silly right Anyhoo, ELO did such a uber job on this soundtrack. I kinda stop listening to it for a bit but i rediscovered it and listened to it VERY LOUD... a time piece!
