Yes, p*rn addiction CAN be a very real addiction. But when conservative Christians talk about "p*rn addiction" they are not talking about an addiction, they are talking about the "sin" of watching p*rn, and if you feel "temptation" to watch it, and "give in" to that tempation for any reason whatsoever, you're "addicted". They've learned that secular people don't respond to terms like "sin" and "temptation" so words like "addiction" are used instead to hook people. Also "God cured my addiction" testimonies preach really well. Using the term "addiction" the way they do is just fearmongering. It's why if you mentioned sex addiction they would look confused if you're married, because then sex is "good" - unless that sex addiction involved something they consider sexual immorality, like adultery or p*rn or gay sex. It's just another word for "sexual sin" in Christianese - yet another co-opting by Christianity of real world terms. You got to look out for that manipulation and the game of semantics - it's a major part of apologetics, changing the meanings of words and then changing them back when you're not looking so their argument wins. (TW: sh) I have seen people in comment sections being like "Jesus saved my from my sh addiction," and it actually physically hurts to read. As someone who struggles with... those things, seeing it be used as an attempt to convert people actually hurts me. They use words like addiction because they sound more flashy and cool: "Jesus saved me from my temptations to cut myself" vs "Jesus cured my sh addiction." Funny story from a trans guy: In my late teens I was a super devout Christian and heard a program on Christian radio about "Gender Identity Disorder" (back when it existed as a diagnosis). The host gave all the usual misinformation about being trans and its origins, but when he read out the criteria for GID I realized I met every single one of them. Despite that, in my twisted Christian denialism I thought "Well, good thing I'm a Christian so I have a definitive source of truth. I *know* I'm not a guy, because I know it's impossible for me to change my sex, even if I wanted to. No matter how much I want to... no matter how desperately I want to... no matter how much I used to cry myself to sleep at night praying for God to turn me into a boy... it's just not happening. Crazy how people can be so deceived without a definitive source of truth and God's spirit to guard their minds..." I literally told all of this to my Christian therapist at the time, who - probably because he was Christian - didn't pursue the topic any further. Years later, after becoming a full time missionary, learning the truth about the Bible and Christianity (that it's entirely man-made), and leaving religion altogether, I learned more about trans people, the difference between sex and gender identity, and the science that backs all this up. Religion didn't "save" me from being trans. It kept me in denial for years. I'm much happier now that I'm free to be myself - although I desperately wish I'd realized all of this when I was younger, back before developing health issues that prevent me from medically transitioning. Religion stole that from me. Tl;dr: Religion can't "de-trans" or "de-gay" someone, no matter how devout they are. All it does is place/keep them in denial (or at best, in the case of homosexuality, allow them to admit who they are but force them to forgo the type of fulfilling romantic relationship their heterosexual peers are granted). It's messed up.

I mean, I live in a community of all-women. And I'm not saying you can just CHANGE your sexuality (you can't.. I tried). But what you CAN DO.. is stay single or date the opposite gender like God intended. The Bible doesn't say "homosexuality is a sin".. it says "homosexual ACTIONS are a sin". God knows you can't control your feelings, but what can control is whether you act on them or not. Just keep praying and keep the faith. God loves you and we want to see you in heaven. ☺✝🏳‍🌈

I woke up early to spend at least two or three hours every day in private Bible study and worship - every single day for many, many years. And that was outside of the time I spent studying/teaching it as part of my job. I was as passionate about the Bible and what I felt was a personal relationship with God as a person can be. I was also wrong. You are equally wrong about the Bible. Oh so very wrong, and in so many ways - the most important of which being that it is "99%" the same as the oldest manuscripts and that nothing major has been changed. Most pastors know this, btw. It's taught about in seminary. They just don't tell you out of fear that the more detailed truth would cause you to question your faith. You also don't seem to grasp the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity, as my comment was primarily about the latter, not the former. And you may be okay with denying yourself a fulfilling relationship with someone of the same gender, but telling others they'll go to hell if they choose to give in to the very same human needs and desires heterosexual people are allowed to fulfill (desires you seem to believe God gave them) is messed up. I recommend you do some more research - on all fronts. *If* you genuinely care about using the brain you believe God gave you to seek out an evidence-based view of the world, that is. If not, hey, you do you. I have nothing against Christians except when they're actively trying to either force their faith down everyone else's throat or take basic rights away from people who are different from what their personal interpretation of an ancient book (one which has gone through *countless* changes, some quite major) tells them is okay. That said, I have no desire to debate with you further on this. You sound about as convinced as I used to be about your beliefs, so I doubt you're ready to consider anything different. If I'm wrong about you, and you are ready to learn more, the information is out there and relatively easy to find. Seek it out, if you dare. I also went through a denial phase. I used to be anti-LGBTQ (even though I knew I was asexual, I didn't know there was a term for it and it was part of the community) and when I read about non-binary people, I realized I felt the same way and it explained so much about my childhood and adolescence, but the "what if I identify as a dog/child/etc.?" and "how can you know how other genders feel like?" arguments were convincing to me, even though something didn't feel right about the gender I was assigned at birth, and I kept thinking and feeling weird about it for years before accepting myself.

I’m a Christian ally and here is the thing that actually bothers me: I remember my church was talking about how it’s okay to wear tattoos in the age we currently live in. However, in the Bible it states: “‘Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I swear God isn't homophobic. My pastor pointed out to me that Homosexuality is not an abomination when you read the bible and analyze it with historical knowledge. As an example: Roman Bathhouses would hire young boys to work there, and their bodies were part of the commodities. When the bible said "man shall not sleep with boy", it was referring to those roman bathhouses and was instead preaching an anti "R" message rather than a homophobic one.
