One problem I had growing up was keeping eye contact. I just didn't feel right staring at someone for any length of time. I got over it when I got into ballroom dance, where constant eye contact builds connection between partners.

Don't worry, social awkwardness is not just for millennials. We gen x'ers (okay, I'm just claiming that title for today, it may or may not apply next time) are just as socially awkward, we've just been around long enough to know that if a conversation MUST happen, there's no use delaying the inevitable because that will just stress you out then you have to start that conversation while already stressed. Then it's just downhill from there.

The urinal scenario is simple: NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE USE THE MIDDLE URINAL. Anyone who uses them should know to either wait or just go in a stall.

Well better than what my parents tell me about my social anxieties. They say I'm weak minded and need to get over it 😅 But well it's gotten much easier the older I get and I have gotten somewhat used to talking to strangers in public because it seems to be a rather common occurrence for me 😅😂

Here is the deal with urinals and the unspoken rule... sorry, it might be TMI The benefit to the urinal is that it all but eliminates the need to aim... aiming for a toilet bowl is simple enough, but there’s this... fluke factor, with a roughly 1/20 chance that it can turn a simple trip to the bathroom into a horror show of shame. For a detailed account of all the things that could go wrong, please check out the parody rangers by Chris noisi in your free time. Now onto the unspoken rule. It’s courtesy to leave at least one urinal space between patrons. By reflex, or logic, a person stares down at his thing as he goes to make sure it hits the point blank target. The problem is that if one were to use the urinal next to another, urinal user, peripheral vision and self consciousness kicks in, While we’re re probably certain that they aren’t gawking at us and they’re certain we aren’t staring at them, the proximities to one another nullifies the thought, we definitely don’t want to take that chance, and it turns into an unwanted, uncontrollable, undesirable, psychological, hypothetical, inverted, convoluted measuring contest. Now I’m probably going to delete this out of embarrassment soon, because the unspoken rule is too embarrassing to define...

Alright, as a male I feel like I should address this, if it's crowded and I have to go, guess what bucko?! I'm gonna be standing right next to you and not care a bit about what you may or may not see, if we're in the same bathroom chances are we have the same part so we know what it looks like, that said I'm not gonna stare at the other guy cuz that's creepy as shit and I pray he doesn't eye me down either, now normally there's a divider but if there not the sides can handle the bulk of the issue, but that also requires you standing a bit close to the big forbidden water fountain, and if all else fails, yea the "vow" does protect against some of the problem too, but dude if I'm taking care of business and some guy moves, I'm not going anywhere! I've already claimed my area and you're gonna suck it up and deal with me being next to you till I'm through!

Fear of strangers is pretty much the fear of the unknown. You don't know their personality, how they'll react and overall who they are actually. We find a natural comfort in people we're more familiar with, bc we can anticipate and prepare, not so much with a stranger where anything can happen and that can be scary. Plus, it's kinda normalized to be paranoid nowadays, especially if you consume media on a daily where you learn another shooting just happened. It is even worse when you got anxiety, you over think everything. It's unfortunate but it's how we are, we ultimately remain distant so don't have to deal with any of these feelings.
