You should build a guard post up on that hill overlooking the town, fence it in, build a bench and a small fire for warmth to make it nice. Perhaps a lamp post. Then assign a villager or two as guards, that will lower the raid threat as well.

You can relocate buildings rather than build a new one and destroy the old one. It also saves on needing to copy
