I just want to say that you've touched my life. When I was having my bus built out, you reached out (went out of your way) to talk with my builder because you thought something was installed wrong. I will always be grateful to you for that. It meant so much to me that you cared that much and didn't even know me! I hope to meet you on the road one day and when I do, you're getting a big, grateful hug! Enjoy your new chapter!!!

Ran my hot rod / restoration shop for 12 years. It completely burned me out after about 8 years but I just couldn't let it go. Sometimes for the sake of you and the people you live, you gotta know when its time to walk away. Most people will never understand the sacrifice, but that's okay. Just know you did your best and nothing is ment to last forever. Find your next path forward and live on, brother.

I feel for you! I owned and operated my own machine shop as a single mom of three. My biggest mistake was hiring family. Family that I had to cut ties with over losing my shop. It was all heartbreaking and I felt lost at sea for a while. Long story. Do I miss my shop? Not anymore. I ended up working in the Space and Defense industry for 22 years. Someone else handled payroll, taxes, estimates and all that shit. I used to hate the bookkeeping part of self employment! I know you'll land on your feet and find joy. You're young , smart and attractive. You won't have any problems at all. I'm sending good juju and positivity, but you won't really need it. ❤

Paint the walls while the house was on fire presents a more meaningful portrait of the human condition than anything described to me in 25 years of therapy. You might be in the wrong line of work. What a gift you have for conveying advice, so consider making it a career: life coach, student mentor, psychologist... or fisherman -- good luck in whatever you find and thanks again for all the help.

I had a very close friend who had to make this kind of decision back 1997, it was very hard for him. I watched how his family greatly appreciated his sacrifice he made. I saw the benefits from that hard choice he had to make, to walk away from his occupation that he loved like no one else did. He was skilled, astounding man, one of the best friends someone could have. Watching him and learning from him made me a better person today in 2023, I still remember one of the thing I learned from him. "Life is short so enjoy the now. Enjoy what you have in front of you. Even if its not what you want. Learn to enjoy the now." What I got from that was things and items will rust and burn up. But memories made will be with you forever. And even though it's been 3 years since he passed I still have those found memories of him. This man was my father, the sacrifice he had to make change my life forever. It's hard, things change, something closes, and something else opens up, so enjoy your new life. You just never know how it can impact those around you. Just like what my father did for me.

I'm sitting here now 9 months later, hoping you have found new mountains to climb, a breath of fresh air in life, and a stillness towards the past, I hope your future is feeling so inviting for you now, the past is just a locket to wear in remembrance, not a burden to carry. Me and my partner have watched almost all of your videos, we had been contemplating moving into a bus for a few years but didn't have the financial means, our apartment is falling apart, with bug issues, with things breaking they refuse to fix, doors that don't lock, and a not so great neighborhood, we just keep paying. We saved, and we got blessed enough to buy a bus finally, your videos and expertise gave us the confidence to realize we could do it and do it right. Like you've shown. We found a 1995 Bluebird with less than 50k miles, kept in the care of a mechanic, and NO RUST! LOL. I can't imagine how many other new lives you have breathed fresh air into without knowing, how many new mountains you have shown people, maybe it's your turn. :] Wishing you all the best. Thanks for being a huge inspiration to me and my partner.

In the tarot, many would say that the scariest card of the deck is The Tower. It's a total upheaval, a crumbling of something familiar, leaving you to sit amongst the rubble. But the very next card is The Star, a card of healing. Not as a suggestion, but rather a promise. There's a version of you that is looking back on this Chuck, this Charles, with immense gratitude and compassion. My hope is for you to tap into that channel and trust that you are worthy of all the good that is permeating your reality. For every ebb there is a flow, and I know you will find yours. It is ironic that you are closing your shop and I just saw on FB Marketplace listing for 120pc of 4" thick full 4x8 sheets of Foamular 250 XPS foam board, in your video about how to properly install a bus floor you said you could not find the 4" any longer. I like the look of your bus where the entire roof is raised instead of having the original bus height in the front then a weird angle portion of roof just behind the driver seat, and then up to the lifted height, yours is so much cleaner looking. Your bus would look incredible with super singles tires and if you wanted to go all out add a 4WD system with locking differentials for getting well off even the most desolate jeep trail going up into the mountains. Best of luck with your future adventures.

I never thought he and I could reconnect after some of the shit we went through. Currently he is still my best friend. Don't write people off due to their current behavior, you're all sharing the same stress. Much love Mr. Kerns. If you ever come through Winlock Wa (halfway from Portland to Seattle) I have a place you can park, plug in, juice up, dump your gray, do some laundry have a home cooked meal. You are a great teacher. You can teach others that are having to become nomads how to convert vehicles to live in. There are 38 million seniors living in poverty according to AARP who's social security checks aren't enough to pay the average rent in America. Millions are moving into vehicles. Congress refuses to raise the cap of social security tax on the very rich which would allow everyone who is on social security to get a big enough check to retire on in a home rather than a vehicle. So there is a huge need of hands on teachers to help simi retired people like myself, a musician, not a carpenter, plumber, electrician, etc do a build. You can do this anywhere you want to be. You have a wonderful gift to share.

I hear ya, on the issue about making a living doing something you really love. Been doing 4wd van conversions for a while. I found the best way is to build it and then sell it, like a piece of art you created. When Somebody brings you something to build for them takes a long time, so much communication back and forth, they want to change something, what's taking so long, Parts on back order etc.. When you build something, if it's not exactly what somebody wants it will be close enough and they can modify it later after they buy it. I find it a lot easier that way. you can still get full gratification for something you worked hard on. Im new to your channel but I think that's what you should do , you're so passionate about it and very very good at it. Continue to do something you love doing. So build a couple or so sell them then hit the road for 2,3,6 months come back do it again. You're still young keep doing itj for as long as you can. That's my plan anyway

This a tough thing to do. I did it. I had a HVAC company in Florida. I still have it though but it’s just me now. I had a nice shop like you. Now I’m in my home working out of my garage. So... I feel you, and I want to offer hope. My entire adult life was spent with one particular mission and motivation. At 44, I lost every ability to work towards that mission for various reasons, and I had no idea who I was meant to be after that. The grief was overwhelming at times, and the experience was the hardest of my life. All that said, letting go of that one thing that had captured all my thoughts and energy, allowed me to grow and seek with parts of myself I thought were long gone. I am stronger and more creative and confident. All change is loss, and big change feels like it takes forever and like the pain is endless... But neither is true. This too shall pass.

At the age of 69, I can tell you that the one constant in life is change -- at least for those of us who love adventure and take a few risks in life. I'll make you a bet: if you start doing videos of your life on the road in your skoolie (as well as of course sharing your knowledge about bus conversion) your YT channel will skyrocket in views. Start now, be consistent, like every week, and watch it grow. That will at least give you some bucks while you're figuring things out! I, too, have had to end a business I loved and that felt like my calling in life. Have had so many (good but challenging) relationships that I can't believe ended, and have had the anchors of home ownership (several times) and the freedom of the open road (old Dodge camper van 40+ years ago, 1956 step van conversion, tiny house self-build, 2019 Dodge RAM van buildout), and I would not trade a moment of my life for anyone else's. May you look back on your own life at my age and say, with me: "I have REALLY LIVED!"

This just broke my heart a bit. So I owned an art studio in Alaska and had to close it after the pandemic was over. I was so sad because I had actually survived the pandemic by making all my art classes into art kits. I was so proud of myself but at the end I really just didn't have anything else to give. Like you said, you give stuff up, and your identity is so intertwined with what you have worked on. Closing my studio for me was like losing a family member. It was terrible. Ironically I was watching your video because, now two years later, I am turning a 1996 bluebird bus into a mobile art gallery for my art and pottery to try to get my dreams back. The reason I closed was due to an issue with a landlord and it was just the last straw for me. I was exhausted. At least this way I own where my business is and it's kind of cool. I am up in Alaska, if you ever want to come up here we have two extra rooms in our house and we are in the peaceful woods and we aren't weirdos... most of the time lol. You are welcome to come up here, watching your videos I'm really excited to try to teach myself something new when working on this bus/gallery, it may be healing for me. But I am so sorry you are going through this, it hit me really hard because I was in that exact same situation.

I bought a UHaul 24ft box truck to build a home out of, but the landlord decided not to renew my lease, so instead of it being my home, it's going to be me storage to haul all of my shop equipment. This is bittersweet to me, as I will be leaving my home state of Florida for the last 50 years and starting all over from nothing in Utah. I don't have anyone out there, just gonna do it. The emotional part hasn't hit me yet, but your video hit me pretty hard.

Bro this broke my heart, I have been doing research on who is the go to guy for this and I keep finding you and to see that you had to close shop I felt the hurt. You are a guru at this and I am glad you are going to keep doing this, I will be reaching out soon for your help and I am looking forward to that. Its rough when a journey ends but thats the entire point of it, you see the beauty of it and the days when you dont know whats coming next I think it was Robin Williams that said "How exciting" I wish you well!

“The cream always rises to the top” I only found your channel recently but you wouldn’t have grown a channel if you didn’t have something special to offer and valuable insight. You will grow and hopefully and quite likely land to an even better scenario for yourself. Cheers, thank you for your value you provide and good luck to your future endeavors. You will do great.

Too bad you had to close the shop I really enjoyed watching your videos. You are a class act when it comes to building the buses and your videos far exceed others. You provide so much detail it is great.

You are such a good guy Chuck and incredibly talented! I'm 4 years into owning my bus and only stumbled on your videos a couple years ago. Even went to your Bus Fair building classes in Oakridge 2024. I would imagine no matter what what you do its going to be gold...

Ive watched you for 2 years now. I had tickets to 24 bus fair and didn't make it. I could never comment on KZbin because i spoke out a little too much during c19... My bus, and i thanks you perhaps so will my kids one day, they're too young now. I miss you man. You've been missing for weeks now. I'm trying to get all my questions on paper and pull a consultation with you, hopefully your still there... I watched this again today in full and it brought a tear to my eyes. Again. Then... This time ... I saw the Thorp Fruit sign !! And laughed out loud . I drive port containers around washington and have seen that sign weekly for the last 12 years 🤣🤣😎👍 I hope we get to meet someday. Thanks for kicking great K-noledge. Bee in great health brother- Peace ! JimmyK.

Dear Chuck, this sad news it's known by now from a bunch of time. In my humble opinion, your shop (so-called for including all, like your co-founder and the other master buider that have worked at Chrome Yellow) is one of the best worlwide professional reality on bus/schoolbus conversions. So.... "Never say never", someday, i'm sure😉, your conversion shop coming back to life, like the legendary phoenix!

This one hits really close to home, should have had a warning label on it lol. For as long as I can remember, my bucket list dream was to be a full time landscape photographer and have my own art gallery here on Maui. Nine months before Covid, we signed the lease on our space and it's been a wild ride with the shutdown, economy issues and then most recently, the fires. Our lease is up at the end of March, and it's all I can think about. I don't see a way forward, and it breaks my heart. I used to love change, crave new challenges...but now, all I want is to keep what I've worked so, so hard for. Anyway, I feel your pain...but trust the process and enjoy the new life that is unfolding every day! Love your videos and content, keep them coming!

Thanks for posting all those superbly detailed & well explained videos! It's truly a Magnum Opus reference for those of us wishing to undertake van or bus conversions. Even if we pay someone else to do the work, we are now well informed, and have no excuse for accepting substandard workmanship.

I don't have any real plans on building my own bus but I continue to watch your videos bc of how you create content. Keep doing your thing man and I will continue to watch! Best of luck.

I spent over 30 years working, alot of it volunteer, raised 2 kids on my own. My life has been EMS, Fire, SAR, LE I never made enough money. Took a lot to let that all go. I feel ya. I understand the exhaustion when your soul is tired. I've enjoyed watching and best of all luck on your new adventures

We love you Chuck! I really enjoy your videos. I learn a lot and they are entertaining as hell. My #1 Chuck Cassaday take away…. “Life should be on a dimmer” when installing lights in a bus! Love this word of wisdom.

Chuck, I've been where you are, spent 15 years working on a business and finally had to walk away from it with little more than the shirt on my back, but that gig led to so many good things later in my career, and using what I learned (about my business and myself) for the next hustle made up for a lot of the regrets I had when I closed that door. You'll find more and bigger successes leveraging what you've done and what you've learned. Cheers and congratulations on your next phase of life. It's gonna be great!

Chuck your monologue hits my heart today. I found you while planning my own bus build and the quality of your work was better than any other out there. I am from Denver Colorado as well and I too went north west to escape the pain of loss and love that I found along the Rockies. I've my own 38 ft. Bus that is now my home and it's maiden voyage was 1200 miles to the coast. Thank you for your expertise and knowledge, I wish you the best in future endeavors.
