Na. Don't do it. You will have as much of a problem with Rings of Power as you had with Wheel and you quit wheel. The writers for Rings were just as bad although I guess it is a bit easier to stomach because they weren't butchering an existing story. They butchered plenty of lore but at least they didn't butcher 1000s of pages of existing story. If you are never going to finish season 2 of wheel, then you might as well do Rings because it will be more comedy gold from you. Get well!

I like to consider that we're all suffering watching it, so it can be financially successful, so that companies will take more shots at adaptation. That's what's good about Game of Thrones, it made people think money was to be made, and also informed them that adaptations should be faithful or the fans will not support them and more show runners have listened to that. Not the Rings of Power, Wheel of Time, Witcher or Star Trek: Discovery people of course. The later weren't even smart enough to check the acronym they were going with. Mind you, if they had they were probably to young to know what an STD is.

There are people out there complaining that the Woke aren't funny because they can't tell jokes any more. Not true! They gave us Rings of Power and Wheel of Time and Doctor Who and more ... And another random thought: When you are losing your voice like that, it could make a case for using AI to train on your voice and use that during recovery. Anyway, appreciate the effort, but please take care of yourself first. There's no point having a few more videos out if you can't get healthy.

Not been able to bring myself to watch the RoP trailer yet. First season was pretty bad, think I was hoping a season 2 would quietly retcon a load of things and try pretend season 1 was a fever dream. A bit like they did with WoT. Guess this is not to be. Your voice does indeed sound like it must kill to speak, but having suffered with losing my voice before I know it's not necessarily the case that it hurts. I've always ended up with losing my voice after I myself start feeling better. I personally always find that the best remedy is to have a spoon of honey every day. No idea if it helps the throat, but mmmm honey.

But I'd only want you to do the videos if you were excited to do the videos. I don't think I'm interested, personally, in any videos you yourself would deem "throwaway". I just kinda wanna see you enthusiastic about the topics you cover. And granted, I do love it when you tear into bad shows. Better than throwing effort into RoP, rather close out WoT S2 with an end of season review where you smash all the remaining episodes together and can talk about the long arcs. Much better for you than per episode deep dives and also less need for you to talk at such length, and better for us because it isn't chopped into single episodes but more thematic across the season.

You could just use AI voice generation to read the script while you're recovering. It's a perfectly valid thing to do with your own voice, and Rings of Power doesn't deserve human narration when it comes down to it. @KA-sx3sc4 ай бұрын
@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS hmmm, it seems that you're down to either dodging the ring entirely or taking it on with a time caveat. At the risk of overstepping I would submit that length isn't important (stop laughing, that is not what I meant! Though as a man I need that to be true, don't take this away from us, I beg of you.).. To illustrate my point I'll ask: does it matter how long the procedure for a lobotomy lasts? Whether 2 minutes or 3 hours in the end a chunk of the frontal lobe is gone and you are metaphorically in "the undiscovered country, from whose bourn no traveller returns" as Hamlet put it. (I know he was talking about death but come on allow me some latitude - how often do I get to use Shakespeare's prose in a KZbin comment section who would actually get it?!) So, if that holds up then it is time to ponder the underlying premise.. To review or not to review, that is the question. Thus ends my veneer of profundity for today! While my comment was dumb, look on the plus side - at least I didn't split any infinitives and isn't that what really matters??

I don't know if the idea is to watch tv shows that fall short of their source material to give you more things to talk about re: adapting and editing, but woman, please watch better shows, shows that you enjoy. I'll make some recommendations, both ongoing and finished shows based on books that were good: -Dexter An excellent show, very fun, seasons 1-5 were very good-to-great... it separated from source material in a pretty big way at the end of season 1 that had a significant impact on the show moving forward, really past season 1 it's more about adapting the character more than the story, but at the very least, season 1 is worth watching (and the books are fine). -Invincible One massive misstep in adaptation hurt season 1 of the tv show, but I'd say at least half of the episodes in season 1 have a really interesting wrinkle to throw at you to get you invested in the show, the characters, interested in what will happen next. And I went online (hoopla) to read the entire comic book series and knocked it out in 2 days... it's *really* good. I could think of a handful of tv shows with excellent writing that might be rewarding for you to watch and analyze, but if the idea is only ones with book adaptations, then those 2 are the only among my favorite shows that were adapted. Although I've heard great things about "The Expanse." (I watched I think all of season 1. I dropped it, but just because I wasn't able to devote my attention to it; I didn't drop it for its quality, I just was looking for something I could give only some of my attention to. At some point I intend on, probably, going back to it.)
@SchulzEricT4 ай бұрын
The Witcher too, I guess. The show really went off the rails and is such a complete mess, but I'll defend the first season. Each episode of season 1 could've been tighter, for sure, but overall season 1 did a great job of being interesting and introducing you to the characters and the world. And the end set up the future of the show wonderfully. (Only to throw it in the trash immediately, but that's not a season 1 problem.) Again, as with so many fantasy books turned into tv shows: seems like tv writers just have no respect for... the genre? Other writers? The fandom? So they just LOVE to go "oh, yeah, that's a good story I guess (dismissively), but I can do so much better". (Spoiler alert: No they can't.) But again, season 1 was solid. I'd recommend watching season 1, then reading the books (whichever season 1 adapted: 1-4? Not all of it, but season 1 adapted several stories, I'm pretty sure across multiple books), then watching the season again this time with context. (Maybe that's too time-consuming, but I think that's the optimal way to approach it.)
@jonevansauthor4 ай бұрын
Is Invincible a misstep given that the creator specifically rewrote it to improve the writing as he's substantially more experienced now? I'm pretty sure he went on Kevin Smiths' show and was interviewed at length explaining it and it sounds reasonable to me, much like Neil Gaiman doing the TV version of the story he wrote with Terry Pratchett with Pratchett's blessing. Seems fine to me. If Tolkien had been alive for LOTR to be filmed and requested they drop Tom Bombadil from the film, I'd be fine with that, Jackson doing it was shameful though.
