Power sanders are a great tool. They sand fast and clean with a vac. However they can mess something up in a hurry. I believe that festool makes a soft pad and a firm pad. For finish with I would go with the soft. The firm pad I would use for heavy removal, texture, etc Have fun

Carpenter here, mostly a one man show. Thanks so much Ben, for the drywall and taping videos. I have always admired the skill of the commercial and residential drywall guys I worked along with. I have peppered many of them with questions, over the decades. What I have learned from your videos, has rounded out my education. I now look forward to the drywall and taping stage, on the small/medium sized reno jobs I take on. Oooof, no more skateboarding for this old coot. I'm fifty-seven now... I am looking forward to seeing the Planex in action. Best regards. Michael

I loved finding out 2 new things about you today: 1) skater and 2) your 38 years old. I can relate. I’m a weekend DIYer that does a lot of skim coating. I’ve been using a cheap Wen electric sander with a craftsman shopvac for about a year and it is a total game changer. You can put a thicker first layer of mud and even leave trowel lines and other imperfections, because the sander takes it off so fast. After sanding I put a final quick thin coat that needs very little sanding if any. I hope all the best for you.

Don't say "Mil-an-o" to an Italian. It's "Mee-La-O'! Canadians are incorrigible. Anyway, thanks for all the vids and tips!!!! PS. I was flown to Vancouver for an interview at a tech conference. Arrived late, was shuttled to a hotel, woke up the next morning, got dressed, and was about to leave my room when I decided to open the blinds and take a look at the view. WOW!!! The bay, the bridge, the islands, people sailing and sailboarding, and wake surfing, and then the city with the mountains and snow and skiing! Beautiful.

I can give one tip: Always start sander when it's laying on surface never start it in air and then made contact with wall. And reason for that it when it's in air it gets higher RPM and when you lay it down it bites and for sure makes hollow.

I sold fextool for a number of years and I used the old Planex. If you think your shoulders hurt you before just wait. They are great tools but pretty heavy. Of course total price is like close to $4000 when you add the vac and sander together a price suited to pros.

There's certain situations where the vacuum sander is really use like small rooms and for ceilings, also really helps keep the job a lot less dusty, however they don't do nearly as good a job as a large sanding sponge and I often go back with the sponge and holding the vacuum tip near to clean up the marks from the vacuum sander.

My dad's actually getting rid of his Festool sander after a year or so of ownership. He used a Porter Cable for decades and finally got rid of it (after having it break over, and over, and over...). The Festool is an amazing system that is very clean, quiet, well-designed, and well-engineered. (Them Germans!) His major gripe is the fact that it's so end-heavy. He does a lot of large commercial jobs where he's sanding all day. And at 62, he's looking for the lightest thing he can find. But based on what I've seen from your channel so far, it'll be perfect for you because of the smaller jobs you do. You just have to get the hang of adjusting the vacuum/suction and sanding disc RPM settings for each job. You may also find that you lose suction on uneven surfaces pretty quickly. I don't know how familiar you are with the rotating sanders, but have it spinning before you're on the wall and do an 'airplane landing/takeoff' onto and off the wall to avoid unwanted gouges. I'm interested to hear what you think about it. Enjoy and good for you (and us)!

Watching your videos shows me how poorly my professional drywallers did on my room addition. And they were professionals from a drywall company. And on the center of the room on the ceiling at the ridge beam all the paper came open. US drywall professionals. That was 9 years ago and I've not redressed the issues of the paper coming open on the ridge beam. I keep telling myself I'll apply an oak faux beam. This is why I'm watching the Vancouver Drywaller--to learn to do this myself and better than the professionals I've hired in the past.
