Stono River EXACTLY. Which is why I still prefer Fantasia over her version of this. She's singing a song but doesn't have the emotional experience to pull from. Fantasia gives you raw grittiness. Let's talk about how all the other actresses who have played Celie (Except for maybe LaChanze) relied on doing these crazy riffs on every other note to make this song powerful, but Cynthia just sings it from the heart and it's even more powerful. That is what makes a great singer. Someone who doesn't have to do crazy riffs to make a song incredible. Sorry if this sounds weird

this is the BEST VERSION of this song. Erivo inhabits the character and breaths life into the song like no other. Thanks for posting Ryan Bloomquist! Yes, this is the voice Oprah was seeking....beautiful legato, clarity in tone and emotive. ;)
@sassyhere93938 жыл бұрын
Totally Disagree, you need to relisten to Fantasia version, so much more emotion
@rennes998 жыл бұрын
sassy here I respect your opinion but I still maintain that Erivo brings more to this song and uncovers a more dynamic range of colors and emotions because she has a better instrument. The raspy tone and nasal intonation of Fantasia's performance is distracting and not beautiful in this repertoire. However, no matter our aural preferences, we are lucky to be alive in time when we get the chance to hear two wildly different interpretations of this glorious music.
@TheBriaalex8 жыл бұрын
+sassy here SAME! I literally cried while watching Fantasia. She pours out her whole soul.

I agree with rennes this is the best version. I literally just saw this on Broadway and she had the whole theatre in tears and on their feet. I have heard several versions of different artists on this subject, and I have it very clear, with all my respect for the other singers, Cynthia is the best voice, best singer, better interpreter, better tuning, and transmits like nobody ... How much I would like to see it and to hear it live in Spain, and for when a disc with world tour? , Because this girl is at the level of the great world voices of all time, I imagine that the great musical producers will be watching the great talent of Cynthia, I and many more people are waiting for in Spain, a great kiss for this great star.

Except Oprah was edited into this vid...this was her reaction to Jennifer Hudson singing the same song at the Kennedy Center Honors.

I think this Oprah in this video is fake because if you see Jennifer Hudson's version she is there too exacly the same way. This version may be fake.

Vitor Duarte yeah, she was edited in, but only so youtube wouldn't recognize the copyright claim and take it down.

There are other ways to edite the video so youtube doesn't take it down, you dont need to put Oprah on it and make the video a fake one.
