Engineering Explained 2004 s2000 owner here! FYI, the Ap2 2004 & 2005 models still retained the throttle cable. 2006 models and up switched over to DBW. Judging by Alex's steering wheel and gauge cluster, it looks like he owns a 2004 or 2005 model.

I don't get it - what's the point of using a supercharger instead of a turbo if you're going to only unleash it at higher RPMs? The primary benefit to superchargers is linear and immediate power. Delaying the use of it is basically doing what a turbo does.

I admire the passion of anyone who's into cars that much. That being said, i was kinda disappointed by the noise - i guess it's subjective, but this S2000 doesn't sound nice at all. Contrary, i think it sounds considerably worse than a stock one - and if you put a supercharger on.. I personally would want the whine of it to be noticable. Maybe i missed it, but you couldn't hear it at all. Bodykit is down to taste, i like it apart from the front fenders which look ass.

SmellyAlways That's a bit of a silly response, so is suggesting that one designed by a "proper" tuning company won't have issues on the track. If a team that puts a lot of time in to making their car run very well has spent a lot time finding and testing superchargers and still has problem, it generally means there are problems with all of them for racing. This is solidified by the fact that the other people I know running different supercharges designed by "proper" tuning companies have the same issues. They all have issues on the track and if a race team that runs two S2000 can't find a solution with all their expertise, what makes anyone else know better than them. The other guy in the S2000 club running the event was running a different supercharger that was meant to be for racing too, I remember one of his belts right in the center of the main straightway. As Ryan Moore states, it's expensive to make reliable. Besides the belt issues, there are a lot of problems with heat management on longer faster tracks that would allow for cooling. If you don't have issues with belts snapping you have issues with heat. If you want to be dissident about it that's fine, but ignoring the issues and tossing them up as "won't happen to me" is completely silly. Then again majority of car people never actually track their cars. On a side note, tuning companies don't make reliable track cars, race teams do.

I bought an s2000 this year at the end August, Its currently on my ramp as im doing the clutch (One that handles more torque for future upgrades) & fabricating myself a custom exhaust but i must say its the best thing i ever did. Before this iv'e had newer cars like the mk7 golf, e90 bmw & an the s2000 eclipses them all. Even a standard s2000 gets looks & compliments on the regular. I think, if you want one get one now as they're only going to up in Value similar to the e36 & e46 m3's.... Fantastic car to own, Upsets brand new & old MX5 owners on the regular :P So there you have it a German fan boy turned Japanese. Also if you get a 2005 UK s2000 You get the facelift and you get to keep the Mechanical throttle body and have cheaper road tax. :D

why does everybody hates on the fly by wire? i have that on my x-type and let me tell you it's every bit as responsive to the throttle imput. as soon as you touch it things happen. now the engine revving part it's gonna take a while because it's a diesel with the internals forged from the core of a condensed star, but still. it's not the fly by wire's fault! also kickass cruise control!
