As someone who pretty much had the same thoughts on Battle League, it being a solid game, Yeah. The future of Mario Sports is rather concerning. Especially since a potential Baseball game will follow up a game that was as great as Super Sluggers. Here's to hoping it won't suffer as much.

That would actually be hilarious. The one we are the least confident in working out based on recent sports games, turning out the best of the bunch. That would be insane to think about (but eh as someone who loved his time with Sluggers and what little i experienced from Superstar Baseball, id be happy enough).

I mean...I kinda feel like it just literally CAN'T launch with a small roster. You need AT LEAST 9 characters for one team, and there's no way they'd just have those 9 at the start with the same characters on every team. I know people don't exactly have faith but I don't think they'd do something like THAT. As you said too, the roster practically makes this game, it can't really work as a game without it. My guess is that if anything is gonna get skimped for Free Updates, it'll be the stadiums. Maybe like....5 at launch and like 6 get added over 3 updates?
@dougtheghoul2845 Жыл бұрын
Yeah. And they definitely can't have 18 as the bare minimum or else it'll get repetitive quickly with people fighting over the roster selection.

Let's see what Bandai Namco is cooking since they made both Mario Baseball games. Bandai Namco made new Pokemon Snap and it got free content even though the base game still had plenty of content so that alone doesn't rule out possibility. Despite that, I won't be surprised if they messed up the new Mario Baseball game which is likely. I think it wouldn't be Namco's fault but it would be Nintendo's fault because they're still the publisher and gets more of their say. Even though it's not confirmed Next Level Games was may likely not at fault of what happend to Battle League i think it would be more on Nintendo's fault to keep pulling content back

With the state of the sports spin-offs, I’d be fine with a remaster or having paid DLC if it meant it didn’t end up like Battle League and Super Rush. God know I’d have been happy to have paid DLC for Super Mario Maker 2

I wanna say as long as they pop off with the roster like in super sluggers, I'll be fine with any baseball attempt. Just by the nature of the sport, they kinda need a banger roster but... With how they've been moving, we'll get cool outfits and Pauline as dlc and they'll call it a day lol. At the very least add the Kongs from super sluggers and kremlings

One thing people likely aren't considering is that Strikers Charged & Sluggers were built off of the previous entries, thus reused plenty of assets, only adding on more to the final products. Strikers League was very, very likely made from scratch, as the code & assets from Charged are out of date, thus can't be reused. On top of being put on a deadline on the devs side, it's understandable why the current sports sequels turned out the way they did. You're not wrong for being disappointed, but I believe it's the why.

god these videos from you make my day man, thank you. no matter whats going on in life us nintendo fans can just leave it all behind in an instant and dream about the future of our fave series like its the only thing that matters in the world. idk how to explain but i just love the way you write your scripts. its like the perfect balance of super relatable stream-of-consciousness talking with organized thoughts. its like a friend is ranting to me but well thought out. anyway as for mario baseball, yeah the consensus regarding mario sports games recently seems accurate; theyve been super lacking recently. my god i cant imagine them having so many characters, stadiums, a fun story mode, stadiums you unlock later, a ton of gameplay variety between those stadiums, super fun physics, fun to fight computers, chemistry system, super different character stats and quirks, day and night modes, a whole minigame mashup mode, toy field, fun items, and such great music across the board. its all just inconceivable these days, but it would love love loooove to be wrong.
@antifireemblem8224 Жыл бұрын
I've gotta disagree on strikers battle league. obviously that's your opinion and I respect it but I vehemently disagree. Smaller roster, worse stages, less items, worse music, lacking story mode, harder controls than charged, etc. It felt like a lot of the character of the game which was one of the biggest selling points of the game to me was gone. The having to wait for updates in the hope it will fix a game is an awful idea to me and completely deincentivizes buying the game especially right when it comes out and I know this sentiment is shared with a lot of people (from what I've heard and seen). And by the time more content has been added the player base is all gone already. It doesn't give me hope for sluggers since the treatment battle league got was really rough. It has stained the series reputation in many people's eyes and killed off the possibility of future strikers games due to the massive backlash (obviously I hope that doesn't happen, but like if you get to the point where just porting a game from a decade and a half previously would be significantly better than what you made you'll get a lot of these takes). I hope sluggers either just gets a straight up super sluggers port with a little more content, or a sequel that actually expands further on it and adds more characters (there's gonna be less and we all know that), more maps (they'll probably just give it the battle league treatment and remove all individualism of the maps and make them all the exact same stadium with no gimmicks but slightly look different), online play (this is the bare minimum), expanded single player/story (also doubt this will happen), etc. I am very pessimistic about if sluggers will even get a new game, and if it does I think it's just going to be significantly worse. NOW if sluggers comes out with a bigger roster, more maps (with individualism still intact), better single player, online play, etc. I will buy it and try and get everyone I know to buy it. It would probably be my most played switch game. And if they do all of that AND have extra characters and maybe a map or two as updates/dlc I'm not gonna complain. (thank you if you actually read this far)

Mario Baseball...there's a lot riding on it. After Battle League came out, I made the decision to be less defensive over Mario sports games. It's not worth the mental anguish. For as much as I personally like most of Mario's games, admittedly the three sports on Switch left room for improvement. I made a statement claiming that an Everyone is Here type of deal would be absolutely fantastic for a sequel to Sluggers. I maintain that belief, but realistically I can see a roster closer to the first game. You bring up a good point about vocal minority. Even though I stand firm in feeling that the complainers of Mario sports lately don't make up the biggest audience, mm, they do have a say. It might get annoying to hear consistent criticism from hardcore fans, but they think that a company like Nintendo shouldn't be so tight-fisted with what makes a good sports game. Boring as it sounds, I'm keeping my hype in check. Baseball is coming at some point, but it's going to have quite a lot to live up to to satisfy the Mario fans. All I can do is wait and see. Nice video.

I always put Toadsworth in my team in Mario Super Sluggers the PEAKING, and the campaign was straight up impressive in the small world building story parts, it's gonna be so disappointing if Nintendo's direction with the new Mario baseball game is forsaking the cool essence of past games and force it in the limiting scope of modern Mario titles. After Mario Odyssey that opened up the possibilities and world of Mario, and Mario 3D World Bowser's Fury mode introducing a new experience with 3D World, the sports games feels like it is a cynical product of Nintendo just wanting to give their fans the bare minimum. Nintendo may have excuses like not having the amount of 3D models like their Gamecube/Wii days, but those are just excuses when they are getting so much constant support for the Nintendo Switch in the first place. For all that capital the Switch has been making, it feels like that capital doesn't go into the games much nowadays.

I was just talking to someone last night about who the Switch version of mario sluggers would it and add. I think it would cut the babies and any donkey Kong characters except DK, Diddy and King K Rool. But I do agree that the Koopalings would be an easy addition to help fill in the spaces missing.

Definitely agree with your criticism of Mario sports on Switch: they're all good games (so nowhere near as bad as some people make them out to be) hurt by the lack of some elements present in previous entries in their respective series (which we should definitely point out and discuss). That said, I'd take those games even as they are over not having them at all so I still have my fingers crossed for a new Mario Baseball, one of my favorite Mario Sports series ever since I modified my Wii to play Sluggers because it never came out in Europe, absolutely loved it and later managed to get the GameCube one and loved it, too!
@dmann2116 Жыл бұрын
Good to know that I'm not the only one thinking about this. I'll be honest, sports games (sports in general)...aren't really all that interesting to me. Even the Mario sports aren't really drawing my attention like that. However, I do have some insane nostalgia for Super Sluggers as that was my first Mario game for the Wii (and still currently my only Mario Sports game) and even a friend of mine's who doesn't have a Wii enjoyed Super Sluggers when we played together. The game has a lot of quality and charm to it. But when I think of another entry for the Switch, and think about how the other Mario Sports games didn't get the absolute best reception...I start to worry if the pattern will affect a new baseball game. I hope that's not the case, but when a pattern keeps happening, you can't help but feel that the chance of it being underwhelming is likely.

Crossing my fingers that baseball will get that homerun that it needs but will see. Also side note if I have to guess what the name of a new Mario baseball game could be I think it would be call Mario Baseball All-Stars or Super Mario Baseball All-Stars.

I'll be honest. I think Mario Golf Super Rush was the best handled of the recent Mario sports series. Mario Gold Super Rush kept me and my friends coming back to it because the mechanics it brought to the table completely changed golf from the previous couple of entries. It doesn't live up to toadstool tour but it doesn't need to as it tries to stand on it's own two feet and have it's own identity. Mario Tennis Aces and Mario strikers Charged were both just respectable entries in their respective series where we played them a bit but never returned to them. I'm talking about on release. Out of the 3 games I felt that I only really got my money's worth from the game at launch from Super rush and I didn't even play the story mode past the first area.

Here's my take: I don't think a new Mario Baseball game needs to have a big of a roster as Super Sluggers. After so long, they pretty much have no choice but to build everything from the ground up, which would take a bit more time. However, it _cannot_ have too small of a roster at launch, as was the case with Battle League. We need at least 18 characters (not including color variants) at launch to form two full teams. However, I'd still be down with a 20-25 character roster at launch as well, excluding color variants, with the inevitable later free updates bringing more. Same goes for stages. Super Sluggers had 9, I believe, and all of them minus Mario Stadium had their own gimmicks. I don't think we need 9 stages at launch, but 5 or 6 is what they should strive for, _not_ the 4 that Battle League had at launch. Another thing they absolutely should do with stages is give them all gimmicks so that they don't all feel the same, something that Battle League suffered from. As for a story mode? I loved Super Sluggers's story mode, but I wouldn't mind if a new baseball game didn't have one. Even if they simplify it into something more-basic like Tennis Aces's story mode, I'd still find enjoyment in it, but at the end of the day, I mostly played Sluggers for the gameplay itself, didn't really replay the story mode very much. TLDR; a new Mario baseball doesn't need to be as big or as grand as Super Sluggers. It's been so long that I can accept taking a smaller-scale game. However, it cannot be _too_ small of a scale at launch, something that Battle League suffered from immensely. It _cannot_ have too few characters and stages from the get-go, we need a decent amount before they start implementing free updates (which will hopefully last _far_ longer than what Battle League got). I'm a bit nervous that Nintendo might screw up as well, but also a bit optimistic too. We'll just have to wait and see if they actually make a new one and see what they do with it.

Unfortunately, I can see the new Mario Baseball game following the same route as Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Golf Super Rush, and Mario Strikers Battle League: Small roster of 10 characters, 3 arenas, and barebones content, with rest releasing as free DLC content when said content should've been released day one. The biggest concern in regard to this new Mario Baseball game, is the price. With the debacle/controversy of Zelda: TOTK leaked to be $70, and the possibility of Switch games being that price; if this game does cost that much and it's following the same unpopular trend as Tennis, Golf, and Strikers; we need to take a stand against this game. There's no buts, exceptions, or excuses.

Battle league gets way too much hate, but content wise for a $60 game, yikes, it’s flawed and has some issues that I can agree with them, but it still fun, tho I wish it got Mario Tennis Aces treatment or it got delayed with everything included. Baseball on the other hand, I feel like it’s gonna have a lot of its creativity, stripped down, especially considering Nintendo doesn’t like the reference certain characters anymore, I just hope it doesn’t do that, but my expectations are very low at this point, so why would I not be surprised if it does happen?😑
