Maybe the reason is you do not even understand what anglo saxon is. It refers to germanic ethnicity of people who emigrated from the Roman Empire . People who lived there were Scotish, Welsh and Irish who are not Anglo Saxons. England is not the same as Britain. England is a country within what we refer to as Britain. You can say you are proud of being English but it will not resonate well, as UK is something similiar of the Soviet Union. You will alienate Scots, Welsh walking around saying you are proud of being Anglo Saxons as many are not that happy to be under English ruling. Especially when Scotland might want another referendum and some N Irish think of joining Ireland. If all that happens you can walk around and say how proud you are to be English.
