Reminds me of one of Solid JJ's videos. He makes voice-acted parodies of old superhero cartoons, mostly, and in one of these parodies, the Justice League starts questioning why they're letting Batman be in charge if he doesn't even have any powers. Batman proceeds to point out he's literally bankrolling their entire operation since he's a multi-billionaire and they're not, which I guess would make him a cash cow both IN and OUT of universe lol. Also, that video has one of the hardest comebacks I've ever heard. Superman: "Well, that’s not fair, we all chip in from time to time-" Batman: "Clark, I own the Daily Planet. You're paying me with my own money."

Damn this is aa fantastic reason and large part of why, even though I love Batman stories, I just kinda lose interest if any of the rest of the DC stuff comes into play. Like I adore hearing about the trolley problem of this villain who wasn't treated properly by society and how Batman rises above it, but then you bring in guys who can go back in time or blow up the earth, and it just kinda makes everything fall flat. Like what's the point of Riddler setting a bunch of bombs throughout the city when Flash can just grab all of them in less than a minute? It makes both Batman and his villains lose any meaning.
@Blue_Bunny_Boy2 ай бұрын
Adding to this because I like thinking out loud, I don't even mind if the story ends up having some huge sci fi or fantasy aspect to it either like Batman actually travelling back in time, plus it's not like sci fi has ever been very far from Batman anyway, solely because it's still centered around Batman and how he deals with it, but if you give the same thing but now Superman is also there? And I suddenly don't care anymore XD

Having Batman be an incredibly capable man, but also just a man, who rises up against terrifying odds in a classic gothic-horror-esque detective story like Sherlock with gadgets facing a terrorist Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is my favorite kind of Batman Having Batman be a control freak with a heart of gold who uses his tech to monitor everything and contribute to the fights of basically Gods as a mere man is also cool It's these two Batmen existing as the same guy that I simply cannot reconcile. It just never makes sense. He has so much crazy tech and money and yet he fistfights armed men with modified Kevlar armor and sends Joker to the horribly underequipped Arkahm Asylum every time. He insists on remaining as just a man and guardian of Gotham and yet he can go out to fucking space and fight alongside the JL and somehow dodges fucking omega beams. Indeed, why doesn't he just call the Justice League, is he stupid?
@generalrubbish95132 ай бұрын
I love the mental image of all the ACTUAL superheroes treating Batman like this tag-along nuisance, like yeah, dude's got no powers and can't do shit without his gadgets, but he's really rich, so I guess we gotta humor him and let him play hero with the big kids.

That's cute because he has made them cry for their mommies. Even Superman has healthy respect for him, because he knows Batman can kick his ass. He just doesn't want to. Also, any man who has absolutely no powers but can hold his own against literal gods and monsters with just bare fists, is someone you should pray you never cross.

@Furrina89 Listen, I love Batman too, but the amount of coping other Batman fans do is crazy. The only reason Batman comes even close to beating "Gods" is because of plot armor. That's it. We love him, so the writers make him do things he should never be able to. Can Batman be the smart one in the group? Sure. Could he be the stealthy one that can provide Intel? Yeah. But to say he's there because he's as strong as the other dudes? He really ain't.

Poison Ivy once successfully brainwashed Superman. The Joker has, on multiple occasions, taken on and defeated Justice League heroes with superpowers. The Riddler once nearly defeated the Green Arrow trying to nuke a city and was literally only stopped by a magical Deus Ex Machina. The original Green Lantern was stationed in Gotham and was regularly beaten up by Sportsmaster and Solomon Grundy. Even Batman's B- and C-tier villains are a massive threat to anyone not Batman. That's why Batman helps with Justice League stuff: He regularly effortlessly deals with villains who are dangerous enough to be able to take down the entire Justice League single-handed. For Batman, stopping a villain from dropping the moon onto the Earth isn't a challenge, *it's what he does to relax.*
@lewstherintelamon2442 ай бұрын
That's just villains taking advantage of the same Plot Induced Stupidity that allows Batman to play on the Justice League level. Realistically someone like the Flash would have them back in a room with rubber wallpaper before they even realized what happened.
@FirstLast-cg2nk2 ай бұрын
@@lewstherintelamon244 Are you kidding? One of the Flash's main villains is Captain Cold, which is literally just Mr Freeze without a tragic backstory. Another is Captain Boomerang, whose superpower is literally "Being Over-Stereotypically Australian". Another one, The Top, is a dude that spins really fast. Gorilla Grod is literally "Gorilla but is smart". The fact that that Flash struggles with those should make it clear why he doesn't go into Gotham very often. If he struggles with a guy with an ice gun, he'd get eaten alive by the baddies of Gotham.
@lewstherintelamon2442 ай бұрын
@FirstLast-cg2nk Yeah, that's plot induced stupidity, unless you can come up with a good reason why some who can move millions of times faster than someone else doesn't just auto win every fight with them (besides the fact that would be a boring story)

I'm not a big superhero fan so I'm not really qualified to debate this, and while I'm sure there are any number of plot reasons for the Superman and Joker scenarios, but the Green Arrow one sticks out to me as just weird. Why is it special that Green Arrow stops Riddler? If it's just a nuke, anyone could have done it, like Lex Luthor or whoever? If it's a *magic* nuke, then why it has to be Riddler makes even less sense. Also isn't Green Arrow just... Batman but not as cool or rich? Like Batman has always been pretty sci fi so the arrows aren't that special for that aspect, but he also doesn't have the detective aspect Batman is known for (or at least, it's not as prominent enough that I'd know about it).
@FirstLast-cg2nk2 ай бұрын
@@Blue_Bunny_Boy Here's the thing, it was kind of a weird plotline. Basically, a guy paid Riddler to come and do stuff because he wanted to distract Green Arrow from discovering he was using a magical ritual that would disable all technology. Green Arrow failed to take Riddler seriously until after he solved a riddle indicating that Riddler had a nuke, costing precious time and causing the Green Arrow to literally be too late, and only the magic ritual happening prevented the entire city from being nuked. The thing is, Green Arrow had, when speaking with Batman, had been warned to take Riddler seriously, but ignored the warning and compared the villain to Captain Boomerang. GA nearly became radioactive vapor because of he failed to realize that Batman's C-lister was everyone else's A-lister.

Why should the police bother to stop robberies if they can't do anything about the war crimes happening elsewhere? Nice logic OP
@13gothMoth2 ай бұрын
But that's the exact point. Regular cops aren't called away from their departments in Wherever, USA to go personally fight terrorists in another country with whatever gear and training they already have, or fly up into space to rescue stranded astronauts, or even put out a fire. So why is Batman always called away from fighting Calendar Man in Gotham to help Wonder Woman fight Hades, or teleport to Apokolips to stop Darkseid, or whatever else? They didn't say Batman should give up on Gotham, just poking fun at the fact that he's ALSO doing all this other stuff. I love Batman, but he doesn't need to be dragged into everything. There are clearly plenty of fans who'll buy anything with Batman in it, but for others, it just stretches the willing suspension of disbelief too far to have a guy who's basically just a rich detective going toe-to-toe with gods.
