I've had similar struggles in the past few years and it always feels weird to be recycling old shots and clips, but you have to remember that just because you've seen them a million times, for many of us on the other end of the internet it's our first experience with what you're sharing and we're all excited to see your spin on it. Others have already said it, but you opening up and being transparent about the struggles you're facing actually feels more relatable than other creators that only show the highlights in life. Being in the shit is no fun but without that experience the high points wouldn't feel as high either. Keep your head up, we're all pulling for you, you're very talented and we love you for your energy and personality regardless of if you're able to shoot the same way you used to. Challenges are just an opportunity to adapt and pivot into something even better. You got this!

I got dx'd with cancer toward the end of college right before jumping into my dream career. It is so heartbreaking to have to reframe your life due to your health. I was supposed to spend my life on sets, but perma chronic fatigue makes that impossible. Acceptance is an ongoing thing. Days where everything sucks and days where things worked out better than I could have hoped. Nowadays I get to work with a community of other's who get it, and I hope you find your own community who can relate to what youre going through. Mostly, take care of yourself. The bad days are bad. The good days are good. And life exists between it all. sending you so much love.

Jake, you’re not alone. Grief has been the most difficult thing about disability for me by far. I lost my career and every bit of certainty I had. I lost a lot of things, but I also gained a lot. Takes a while to come to terms with it, and that’s okay. You will get there too! Disability just kind of brings along a whole new world you had never considered before. My life is harder now than before, but it is not worse. Just different, maybe. I know this sounds like a step back, but bear with me: a high quality custom (second-hand) wheelchair has been my saving grace (doesn’t mean it has to be right for you!) It allows me to explore cities, museums and even nature without the increased pain and fatigue I would have from walking all day. It allows me to go buy groceries on my own and access to my community. It allows me to be independent. I guess what I’m meaning to say is that you, too, will adapt eventually. This is not forever, and I know you know that. Maybe you’ll shoot more portraits, maybe you’ll own a studio; maybe you’ll teach at a college. Who knows! What I do know is that your videos helped me out a lot on the days where I couldn’t leave the house. I bought a camera because of you and it’s been incredibly fun! Something I would’ve never considered before. Thank you!

@@Jakechams I definitely have! Took me a while to write a map for a new life. Sometimes my body feels like it’s speaking a different language now, and I am learning day by day. More than anything I’ve learnt to embrace the community I’m in now and the sense of comradery I share with people who live in a broken body also.
