Each of the 4 members wrote number 1 hits. So much talent and they were so close. The love and support they had to Freddie especially at the end was wonderful.

The house shots are meant to be a parody of long running British soap, Coronation Street. The opening of the show has the same style of opening as this video with the view of the tops of houses on a typical working class street

Freddie was just a whole other level. He could emote whimsy, yearning, sadness and make you feel all three of those emotions at the same time. The man was a gift. Just an absolute gift to the world.

One of my favorites. This was banned on Mtv in the 80s and being a huge Queen fan had never seen or heard it thanks to stupidity. That little quick double step Freddie does every time he enters a room was his own idea Brian said. I still remember where I was when they announced Freddies death on the radio. Was in the car headed to the mall for a day of shopping with my wife. I was like 22. I was a huge Queen fan. As a young teen I collected their Queen trading cards in the early 80s. I wish I still had those.

I had to go away and look this up. As a British lad, the idea this was the CONTROVERSIAL track broke my brain. It's only recently that our conservatives started attacking drag queens openly, and Queen once promoted another of their singles with a nude bicycle race accross southern England. What the hell, America?

Those were conservative times in The Land of the Free. Disco had come to an end with the 'Disco Demolition Night' in 1979. Disco having had origins in the African-American and Latin American music, and in gay culture. John Lennon was killed in 1980. Ronald Reagan had come to power in 1981. To make things even more queer, Freddie Mercury had taken influence to his looks from Finnish artist Touko "Tom of Finland" Laaksonen's art. He himself had moved to the US in 1956 to find a more liberal society to live and be an artist in. He had received a Medal of Freedom in the Finnish army during the WW2, personally from Gustaf Mannerheim, Marshal of Finland. Mannerheim has been voted several times as the greatest Finn ever. His sexual orientation has been debated, and it's said that his career as a cadets ended for that reason in 1886. Both, Mannerheim and Laaksonen, were into uniforms.

This music video gets parodied so much in the UK. Drag acts have been a big part of UK culture and it was really well received here. The complete opposite happened in America and there was a strong negative backlash to the video, so much so, they didn't end up doing their planned tour of North America

Yeah, Light Entertainment on the TV in 70's and early 80's, Danny La Rue, Hinge and Bracket, sketch comedians like Les Dawson, Dick Emery and countless others had 'drag' characters. The most outrageous one would have been Kenny Everett's character which he NEVER shaved or hid his beard for, but it was all "done in the best possible taste" 😜

I am going to show my age now, but this song was on the first Vinyl record I listened to as a kid, it was one of the songs on NOW 3. For those not in the know, NOW is short for Now That’s What I Call Music, which was an compilations album of the pop songs of the year (more or less) and originated in the UK, NOW 3 was the third release they did, I believe NOW 1 was released at the end of 1983 and NOW 2, 3 and 4 were released in 1984 and then it was 2 a year after that for a while but it’s been over 20 years since I have taken any notice of them so no doubt the format has changed so I can’t comment on how it works now but the point is, NOW 3 which was the first one I owned was released in 1984, so I will never forget when this song released because it was on that compilation album I had and if my memory recalls, it was the first song on side A of the second vinyl, it was definitely the first song on one of the sides, there were some quality 80’s tunes on that album, lol and let’s put it this way, my age was the same number as this album, lol

Be reasonable please. It wasn't us the audience, just like anywhere, it's about those people who hate "the others" (aka bigots) and don't want us to have fun doing things they wouldn't do (but so often do secretly). Or, to put all of that into one word: _Conservatism._ Every country has them and because humanity evolves socially, by tomorrow their Conservative ideal will naturally become Regressive ideals.

This video killed their first run at America. Not because of the sensual dancing, but because of the outrage from those who didn't understand the crossdressing was a parody of the British soap opera that plenty of people will have mentioned already. However, during live gigs, Freddie would sneak offstage and reappear in the "pointy" outfit to perform the song to a massive pop.

Queen is one of those bands that seems to be comfortable in so many different music styles. Between the four of them, they wrote and recorded everything from disco (Another One Bites the Dust), to rockabilly (Crazy Little Thing Called Love), to ballads (Love of My Life, These Are the Days of Our Lives), to pop (Killer Queen, Bicycle Race), to rock (Tie Your Mother down, We Will Rock You , We Are the Champions, The Show Must Go On), and even hard rock / metal (Princes of the Universe). That was the mid-eighties when I obsessively watched MTV. I lived in an area where there was no cable service, or even a TV signal. I bought a huge Sony Betamax VCR, and would load it up and take it to my mom's house whenever I visited to record MTV for the duration of my visit. Then I would watch those videos time and time again. Sometimes they would just play in the background. Other times, MTV videos were center stage while my buddy Kenny Jackson and I sat on the couch, drank beer and giggled at the videos. It recently occurred to me that we could have been the OG Beavis and Butthead.
