She's the other breakout character from the animated series, she went from this, to being detective Montoya, then made the jump to Batwoman's girlfriend in the Batwoman comic, via a regular role in Gotham-based comics, and later took over the mantle of The Question, once a conspiracy-theory chasing nut and now, as Montoya, a true super-detective.

At the time, their studio was asking; 'Where's the boy appeal?' and trying to shut them down on this subject. The creatives said they wanted to answer 'maybe no boys you know,' but that was too much even then, and career-ending now, so they just went on 'Harlequinising' DC comics, rather like how Marvel Comics went through a 'Wolverinisation' in the 1990s. Harley Quinn is the best thing this series created, and not just for her connection with the Joker. Harley’s greatest strength is her ability to humanize characters who would otherwise be inhuman, including herself. Poison Ivy would be totally lost in her plant monster if not for her bond with Harley. It runs so deep that the comics really explore it to levels this show couldn’t reach. The Harley Quinn animated series takes it to new levels (a series I would recommend you watching only after watching the rest of the DCAU). This is a brilliant episode from start to finish! 😊

Great reaction. A lot of folks get a little... hung up on one half of Harley. Either the early days Mad Love Joker/Harley toxic relationship (the idealizing of this was pretty bad coming after Suicide Squad was released, and we got the first 'big screen' Harley and Joker); or else the late days Harley/Ivy relationship. Delighted to agree with your appreciation for both sides! Harley's story is great because it contains this multitude of things. Obviously Harley being frankly abused by the Joker is morally bad in universe, but watching her making heart eyes at such a monster just makes us want to see her saved and delivered so much more. If she was a real person, we'd want her to get over him and be as far away from him as possible in all regards. But since she's a character, she's always most compelling when the shadow of her twisted love for the Joker is visible in her story. The DCAU series are absolute treasures because they just don't pull punches with human darkness even when they are packaging it for children's television. A theme like that - "Sometimes, people are drawn to things that are destroying them, and for all your efforts only they can ultimately save themselves"... Well, you just don't see it much elsewhere.

I just wish her modern personality was more in line with her DCAU one. I found her way more charming in her older form. Now they've leaned too much into the 'crazy and sardonic' side and forgotten that she's got a sweet, nurturing side. It's a great example of how having that nature can be a wonderful thing, but how vulnerable it is to exploitation. I'd love to have seen her learn to still be herself while also learning to not let anybody walk all over her. Most of her modern iterations just come across as DC trying to make her into their version of Deadpool.

Also, I love how hurt he sounds about the hyenas snapping at him, lol. God I love what a dramatic shitheel he is. Also they aren't exactly anti-heroes. They're going on crime sprees for their own benefit. @emersonplays The Harley Quinn series is certainly a fun trip, but I'm not sure one could call it anything like the 'best DC adaptation'. It feels like a good adaptation would have to really be trying hard to represent that property like the other show you mentioned, Young Justice does very well in almost all cases (justice for Dr Fate :( ) But Harley Quinn's show is a parody version of the DC universe, which is fine because it's a comedy show with a lot of heart buried in the crudeness and absurdity. But I'm splitting hairs; still looking forward to the reactions to those series some time.

I could see the fandom menace channels making videos on this episode saying that the Animated Series is going woke referring to the female empowerment and putting down men not outside the realm of possibilities when it comes to the fandom menace.
