This is a classic Joker episode based on a classic Joker story from the comics in the 70s. And what makes it great is that the Joker knows he can't copyright fish, he's just messing around. Also, don't apologize for laughing at the Joker. He's a barrel of laughs.

This is easily one of the best episodes of the series. No other Batman vs. Joker episode reaches the heights of hilarity and darkness at the same time, where we are just how twisted the Joker can be. It’s pretty much a classic Batman comic come to life, and brilliant from start to finish. Glad to see you react to this one! 😄

"This is hilarious, but also so scary". That's what make The Joker so great! He's a murderous psychopath that you can't help but laugh at. This episode in particular is a favorite of mine since it's based on one of my favorite Batman/Joker comics of the same name.

This is one of my Favorite Episodes of BTAS. This episode perfectly exemplified everything I love about the Joker. He should be Silly, yet Scary, Wacky, yet Disturbing. To me that is what Joker is. Also two bits that always make me laugh every time is the: “you can be my very own little Mermaid *puts fish head on Harley*” and the “Joker Burgers, talk about a happy meal” 😂

5:55 Did you notice this detail? Both Batman's and Thomas Jackson's mouths are obscured during Batman's dialogue, making it so you can't tell who said it, setting up the reveal. Also, PLEASE react to Batman: Mask of the Phantasm after you finish season 1. It's set in this universe and style and features Kevin Conroy's best performance as Batman.

@Xehanort10 It was almost a running joke throughout the entire animated universe how the Joker would get supposedly killed, situations there was no way he could have survived, only for him to resurface with no explanation how he made it. Only time it was for realsies was the Batman Beyond movie, where they actually had to show how it happened, and even in that movie, the majority of it even the characters who witnessed it happening were like "how the fuck did this bastard survive"?

This is interesting. It looks like this episode is an adaptaion and mixture of three different stories, which is neat: The Laughing Fish, Joker's Five Way Revenge and Batman no.1 (Joker's first appearence). Which is really neat.

This was the first BTAS episode my late fiance and I saw together (we saw it as kids and decided to rewatch it as college students) and we loved it so much that we decided to go as Joker and Harley for a Halloween party. He even presented me with a fish head mask so I could be "his very own little mermaid". I looked at him and said "you're really sick, you know that, baby?"

This is one of my favorites. Perhaps it's because of the slightly darker nature of this story, but I remember it actually premiered in the evening, during primetime as opposed to Fox's afterschool animation block. It's also based on a classic issue of Detective Comics from 1978. I recently acquired a copy of that issue. It's fantastic.

This episode is another direct adaptation of a comic book. As with the Off Balance episode, they had to censor the deaths for the cartoon. In the comic books there is no cure for Joker's toxin.

This episode is one of the few that was an adaptation of a story from the comics. Detective Comics #475 (Feb 1978). The plot is exactly the same but there are changes like the inclusion of Harley and Bullock who aren't in the story. Harley didn't exist yet as a character since she was created for this show.

goated episode. the line “his insane schemes only make sense to him alone” perfectly describes this episode. the idea of the joker fish and it being copyrighted is so incredibly ludicrous and batman knows it and the audience knows it but it works bc that is literally who the joker is. like come on who else would think of that? only the joker would LMAO. so imo it’s definitely one of the best episodes of the series and probably my favorite joker episode of the show.

Sharks are the type of species that can thrive in almost any environment. The only differing factor is the size of the shark and its temperament. Whale sharks do surprisingly well in captivity while great whites do not. As for how deep it is, don't be fooled. Sharks are notorious for swimming in as little as 2 feet of water so you are not safe in the shallows. I know this as I do a lot of fishing in the florida keys and there are massive stretches of water that at low tide is shockingly low and yet you will encounter shark activity from small pups to full size sharks. Sharks also will chase a prey as close to the water as it can. I once watched a shark chase a flounder almost on to the shore then flee while a lucky passerby scooped up the fish for an easy meal. Some species even prefer the shallows as its a preferred natural habitat. The only time I would think a tank is too small is if it can barely move around at all. Then its more like a holding tank than a shark tank. Holding tanks generally are used to transport sharks to larger tanks or for observation prior or post surgery.

This episode is inspired by 'two-stage' poisons, which are supposed to kill only when the second 'thing' arrives. Mostly it's simple coercion (as the first element of course, cannot be detected and so cannot be countered), but military 'war' gases may be stored as two components, and 'spun' together when the shell or rocket is fired, creating the poison gas. Another thing: the Joker's face, and smile of his victims is the once much-feared 'risus sardonicus', the rigid-muscle spasms effect of the botulinus microbe, which in infected wounds, killed most people who caught it, and was sometimes mistake for 'rigor mortis' leading to legendary examples of people being buried still alive and conscious. It was a major killer until good anti-biotics became widespread after WWII, and the effectiveness of which is reducing, with few newly-effective replacements being found. When you hear of someone who died of 'sepsis', it's because they died of 'blood-poisoning', organ failure, or worse after an untreatable infection.

God I LOVE this episode, easily one of the best of the show. The Joker fish jingle has been in my mind for three decades. Also nothing wrong with laughing with Joker, the writing for him is just too good.
