I like that Batman doesn’t take his own trial seriously at all. It’s an understated aspect of the character but there’s really *no* part of him that believes himself responsible for these guys and their actions, barring maybe Two Face. He knows they’re all to blame for their own deeds and has no doubt over that fact.

Since BTAS is built on the Burton-verse, Joker was evil before Batman knocked him in the chemicals, so he doesn't feels bad/responsible. But in most other universes Batman feels responsible for the joker.

I think it goes both ways. He didn't create the psychopaths, but deep down a small part of him feels a little responsible for them, as he knows what it's like to be broken. For most of them he has their best interests at heart (think Harvey Dent, Scarface, Harley), so he let's the trial play out once he's there because if they deem him responsible and he's there anyways, he will hear them out. He will not let them kill or hurt anyone, but he will sit there and listen and let them talk themselves into a corner while he looks for an opening to get out.

@@RockinAfr0 he feels “responsible” for them the way someone feels responsible for a charge. He’s basically like they’re babysitter, but the idea that their condition is his fault is laughable to him.

'Record? Is someone supposed to be writing this down?' -The Most Honorable, Most Benevolent, Most Merciful Judge Joker Landmark episode. Love Van Dorn's character arc, first appearing as your standard 'ice cold career-obsessed woman' but then she works to expose the flaws of each Rogue to show how they are completely irrational with or without Batman, learning from the experience as well. Wish she'd gotten more screen time as an ally of Batman like Harvey Dent once was.

This episode is just magnificent on so many levels. It brings to light the issue of the American justice system, mental health, and Batman’s own sense of obligation in the way he treats his rogues. Seriously, you could write a whole thesis paper on this episode alone. Easily one of the finest episodes in the entire series 😊

I've heard tell it was originally intended to be an animated movie like Mask of the Phantasm but it got cut down to a regular episode. As a result, we don't get all the Rogue's testimonies (Riddler would've been excellent) but what we got was excellent.

The line of: "The Truth is you created him." Has really been highlighted in Batman and frankly Green Arrow lore for the next three decades in Comics, Film, and TV Shows. The idea if the corrupt didn't run Gotham and Star City, there wouldn't be a need for aBatman or Green Arrow.

This is definitely one of my personal favourite episodes; it's such a great episode that explores Batman and his effect on the city of Gotham and his villains. District Attorney Janet Van Dorne makes a good point regarding Gotham's rise in villains as a result of Batman acting as a catalyst for them. However, I love that the villains, deep down, all know that they only use Batman as an excuse for their turn to villainy, and they know regardless of Batman's existence, they all would bring misery and terror to Gotham in some shape or form. I also like that Van Dorne saved Batman at the end and showed a new level of respect and appreciation for Batman, which she thought was dangerous. Its poetic how she and Batman want to live in a world where Batman isn't needed.

Harley's past was mentioned in a few earlier episodes. I don't know if you have watched them as HBO seems to be putting them in a different order than the original run or the dvd's. I think it's first mentioned in the episode Harliquinade, but it could have been mentioned other times as well, but that episode stands out in my mind. They do show the whole backstop in the episode Mad Love, based on the BTAS comic that Paul Dini wrote, but that's not until New Adventures of Batman where they changed the art style to be more similar to Superman.

Hatter's mind control does not wear off. It's not hypnosis; it's a technological mind whammy gadget. Flat like a card, and placed against the head, (often held in place by putting a hat on the victim), inducing a zombie-d out, obedient-to-him state until the device is removed.

Wish Janet had become a bigger character in DC. There’s only 2 villains where it’s not their fault or Bats they ended up how they did: Killer Croc & The Ventriloquist. One was made by the horrible treatment for his medical condition and treated like a freak while the other suffers from multiple personalities

My favorite line comes at the end when she says, "You all created him". Now is there some criticism to be made on how Batman treats some of these guys (especially the Joker, that guy shouldn't be still breathing, Gotham would hand Batman a key to the city if he offed that guy, Superman would even give it a pass, he'd understand that one), but Batman didn't create any of these guys
@kenle2
@kenle2 Жыл бұрын
And Batman would be sickened if Gotham and the public at large "handed him the key to the city" for Joker's death. "I will not kill. I've dedicated my life in opposition to the principle that one man can decide by himself to take the life of another." People don't get that about Batman. On a moral level, he's still the eight-year-old kid who is demanding to know what gave Joe Chill the right to take his parents away from him. He fights for the people who are helpless when criminals prey on them. In every Batman story that matters his OVERRIDING concern is always saving lives. He'll instantly stop pursing a criminal to save a life. Witness what he does for Ace in the flashback scene of Batman Beyond or how he fights hard to bring Harley safely in after she gets released from Arkham and mistakenly believes she's being wanted for a robbery. I think this is why Gordon and most of the "good cops" and legal types in Gotham (and there are some), let Batman severely bend the law to bring in criminals that they usually can't. He doesn't go "all the way" to executioner. He knows it would turn him into something his parents would be afraid of.

Harley getting angry at The Joker, Killer Croc dragging Harley away, Two-Face mumbling after Ivy insulted him and Ivy slapping Arnold instead of Scarface is too funny Also fun Fact this plot was supposed to be an inspiration for a scene in a sequel to Batman and Robin (1997) called Batman Unchained which never happened. In the film Scarecrow and Harley Quinn are the villains and there’s a scene where Batman is under the effects of Scarecrows Fear Toxin and he ends up on a Trial before all the previous villains both dead and alive and played by their previous actors
