You mentioned being surprised that people like the Observation Duty games so much. I like them because they're kind of spooky sometimes, they're fun to search for things "with you" while I'm eating dinner, and... idk I just think they're neat.

Pretty sure that at 26:23 it was an intruder but he's outside the house, it's the same issue you had with the other games where they make you second guess the room the anomaly is in

I saw another youtuber get this same anomaly and yes, the mistake here is that he was not putting it on the "outside" category. Basically: it was an 'intruder - outside' type. *edited for typo.

Yeah it was outside, boyfriend and I laughed a bunch at this one, "If that's an extra object, I'm going to lose it". I looked at the bed and thought, "didnt he make a fuss about a book being there earlier?", and as soon as I thought that, he played the clip memory style to show what was obviously wrong. And thanks to John's comedic sense of humor, I choked on my water and it went out my nose. Thank you, John. (I was just informed John has an editor. I think that people like the game cause we get to play too and not suffer the failing to spot the problems aftermath. I like yelling at the screen about what is missing when you don't see it even though I know it does absolutely nothing. Very relaxing. It was great when in game John was going on about the bedroom and talking about missing something and your friend's editing just zooms in on the book that you were just talking about minutes earlier. He did this multiple time and the amount of sass that radiates off that edit style is fantastic.

I can think of a couple of reasons why these videos are performing well: playstyle's pretty fresh, it has high replayability rate (which you do, thus satisfying us completionists out there ;)), you're not obnoxiously screaming at everything AND you're actually pretty good at the game! Been watching since OD1. It's also pretty nice seeing the production value raise with every installment. This one's by far the most "professional"-looking. Can't wait to see it get even better!

I've watched this a pathetic amount of times because I really enjoy you playing this, and thought I'd answer a question you had that I haven't seen anyone answer yet: At 8:30~ the "ghost" is a face grinning at you. The vase in the corner is alligned with its nose, and the end table draw is where its teeth are, and the dark patches just under the light fixture are its eyes/brows furrowed like something straight out of "At dead of night" Jimmy style. It doesn't matter, of course. But the first couple watches, I didn't see what it was, but then my eyes defocused on the third go and I realised that's what it was. John probably knows from editing, but just if another viewer comes to the comments for specific answers for that.

These games are so simple but so fun, it's so quiet and normal so much of the time, even with most of the anomalies, and then sometimes it just catches you off-guard with the anomaly (like that first intruder, oml). But even with the mundane anomalies, to watch you keep catching them and solving them, it's like slowly making progress on a puzzle and knowing you're right, it's weirdly satisfying.

a lot of ppl mention playing along being the appeal but for me i just like the atmosphere a lot! it implies a story without actually fully writing one which means you get to fill in the blanks with what scares/intrigues you. like, what is this organization exactly? are there anomalies in my house at night when im asleep? are the anomalies only occurring in these weird houses, and the organization is just trying to keep them from getting any worse? the fact that you're observing through cameras on a "work shift" gives it this bureaucratic detachment that makes it extra strange (and unsettling when an intruder is looking at you!). basically i just think its neat haha

You’re missing out on so much more in all of these games by not beating the maps or replaying. You know we would love to see more of these videos, and you seem to like playing them (I think).

I feel like part of why these do well is that you get a real sense of "playing along" with you as a watcher. We try to catch things before you do. Also, when that laughing baby man showed up in the second game, I laughed harder than I have at any video for years. Would love to see you take more cracks at this and see more of the weird anomalies. Oh, or maybe a Sunday stream? No, I imagine back-seating on this may drive a person crazy.

The anomaly where it zoomed in is probably a distortion. Another KZbinr had that same problem.

I think the intruder in the window in the lion room was “outside” even though you weren’t actually in the outside area? That one was kinda confusing. Anyway, love these vids as always!

Exactly that! I saw another youtuber get this same anomaly and the mistake here is that he was not putting it on the "outside" category. Basically: it was an 'intruder - outside' type.

I feel like this game would do better in color, and either having more normal looking areas or more obvious anomalies. I also like your idea of a result screen telling you where the anomalies you missed were. and perhaps different modes like "endless" for if you just want to test your observation skills or "timed" if you're looking to up the ante. my favorite scares were when intruders would look at/approach the camera, would love to see more of that. thanks for playing, John!

If there's one thing I really appreciate about the Observation Duty games is that they are amazing brain food. Helping so much with attention to detail and memory.
