A couple pieces of advice based on 30 years in the classroom. 1. Plan to not get into your classroom until the day before. I've never seen a building reno get done on time. Pack so you know exactly what is necessary to put out the day before if it comes to that. 2. color code your labels. I used hot pick neon bright labels to label EVERYTHIING. And I mean everything.

Our building wasn’t finished by time school started. I did not have any outside doors. It took over 3 months for the new library furniture and bookshelves to come in. Our school delayed opening by one week, although we were still a construction zone in some areas, me.

I’m part of the the teachers union here in California and we pack up our own classrooms at the end of the day or before school begins…. never heard of a school district giving us days for that. That would be a dream!!!!!

I won't know what grade until May. That's usually when contract forms are given out. I love how positive you are about the moving situation. Glad you're staying in the same grade!!

Been there, done that. Only my room was the library with 19,000 books, plus all media, and all my teaching stuff. I did move to a new location in the building, which I was able to help design.

Hi Kim! I’m actually transferring schools this year. I absolutely agree with starting early! With the help of my friend, I started packing at the end of April so that it wouldn’t be so daunting because I just moved last year (I occupied 2 classrooms) and I didn’t want that stress again. It’s going great! I’ve purged tons and it’s liberating! I’m moving from 2nd grade to 3rd grade!!!! 😊

I'll be a first year teacher this fall if I get a job!! I interviewed a few days ago for a fourth grade position at my #1 school and I'll find out if I got it early next week. I would rather have a lower elementary position but I would rather have a job than be picky because I know I'd love my kids even if I don't love the content. Knowing that you did 4th and 5th before you got to 2nd but still survived is giving me a lot of hope!! 😆

@Coco I totally get that! Primary grades and upper elementary are so different. I LOVE the younger ones because they have so much energy and passion for learning but I wouldn't want to teach the older ones because they get so sassy and don't want to be at school haha plus the content is not fun 😂

I just found out the same thing. They are putting Central heat and air in our classrooms so we have to pack. Now today we find out they want to move my First grade and the second grades down to another hallway to make a Pre K/K wing.

I am also packing up AGAIN! Our entire school is being renovated, and I am moving rooms, too. I feel you with all the moves. I'm in my 6th year of teaching and I've taught grades 2,3, and 4. I only taught 2nd for one year and it was my favorite. I've had 3 different rooms (different floors, too) so it'll be my 4th classroom in 6 years..... BUT, I am SO excited... I finally get to go back to second grade!!! My dream! I never thought it would happen, and I'm on cloud nine. I was so excited for your move to 2nd last year because I knew it was your dream, too. 💗 I'm hoping that 2nd is where I stay for a very long time!

I was hired as a temporary teacher this year and as I started applying for jobs for next year I found out that was a mistake and I should have been hired as P2. So I know that I’ll be back at the same school next year! I’m super excited. :)

I just found out that I will be moving from a 4th/5th classroom to a 3rd/4th classroom next year for my 2nd year of teaching. I have to move everything upstairs so I am not looking forward to the relocation but I am super excited to move down a grade!!

Hi Kim. I wear Kiss nails too. Have you tried Dashing Diva nail wraps? They can be found at Walmart. You can youtube them and how to wear them. I like those too. They have lasted me two weeks. Oh you and your poor Momma and that big wall and paper... SVG... my student teacher made a cute one for Earth Day It said sometimes I wet my plants. LOL I love your attitude. Life is not what happens but how we handle it. :) I have been teaching 27 years and we just found out we are departmentalizing, and I am gonna teach 3rd grade Science.

Wow! Packing up everything again sounds so stressful. Especially the part of only having possibly a day to put it back together. I watch a Classroom set up flags every year so I know how long it takes for you to get everything set. I imagine that must be super stressful. On another note, I love using the press on nails because I like the way they look. However, I struggle because they ruin my natural nail. Your nails look like they handle it well. Do you ever have issues with your natural nails after using the press on nails? My thumb nails even got a crease in the middle which is super annoying. I have horrible nails which is why I like the press on nails, but then they make my nails even worse! 😂 First world problems! As for whether I’m teaching next year or not, I was really struggling with the decision, but I have decided to continue teaching. I have always taught a combo class and the last several years I have been teaching first and second grade. So naturally, I was super excited when you got moved down to second! I still watched when you taught fourth and fifth, but the content is more relevant to me now. 😊

Next round of teacher negotiations should include compensation for moving classrooms if not by choice. You stay so positive about everything, but I'm glad that you also pointed out that it isn't right! Helping you pack would be a blast though, I'm sure!
