Sometimes I wake up in the morning and just stare at my stomach in disbelief. I genuinely never thought it would happen, but here we are. I can't believe I'm carrying our baby. Thank you for watching and listening to my story. Everyone's journey is different. We never know what's going to happen. So where ever you are on your path, know that I'm rooting for you. It's not impossible.

Thanks for sharing your story! As a biomedical researcher, I can tell you that many things deemed "impossible" just mean statistical impossibility. They're just really, really unlikely instead of absolutely impossible. Anyway, I wish you and your kid the best, that no complications arise!!
@oban2259

With the whole atmosphere of atheism and scientism; I know some people will be sarcastic for what I'm about to say. Here's the thing, a lot of stories we actually witness of people heal miraculously are when the diagnosis is indeed deemed impossible, giving a 0.000000000000000000000000001% chance doesn't mean it's not impossible, otherwise the spectrum of what's "possible" would get to the point that it only eliminates what's actually against the "principles of reason; such as law of excluded middle" What I am trying to say, there are some supernatural instances that just can't be explained by anything but God. The association is quite clear too, praying earnestl and helplessly for something and almost instantly your prayer come true. You can say "correlation doesn't imply causation" all you want, but the the sheer amount of recurrences can't be neglected.
@IceMetalPunk
@IceMetalPunk Жыл бұрын
@@oban2259 I mean... controlled studies on prayer contradict what you said in your second paragraph, so... But yeah, you start by saying "impossible just means unlikely" and then conclude "so when the unlikely thing happens, it can only be God". That... doesn't follow from the premise. I wouldn't have commented except you used words like "can't" a lot and specifically called out atheists and science, so... yeah.
@oban2259
@oban2259 Жыл бұрын
@@IceMetalPunk It's either my writing wasn't clear, or you haven't read slowly. That's exactly the opposite of what I wrote. To be honest, I genuinely felt bad when I read your comment because even the counterargument shows you can't perceive life unless it's through the "scientific lenses", you're probably thinking it's more logical to always think this way, but not always and not necessarily. Please read what I'm about to say thoroughly: let's say someone claims they're an apostle or a messenger from God. This man had a lot of miracles to show, in which he showed constantly. Now that scientism is contaminating the air, people's first thought would be to interpret his miracles into regular actions to avoid associating that supernatural effect with God. In consequence, not effect would be considered a miracle because they would interpret it in a materialistic explanation as if that takes its miraculous element. A simpler question would be: following the orthodox scientific methodology used to day, what kind of "scientific" proof would you like me to show in order to prove God's existence, and why is the proof you chose is the right proof instead of the others. Thank you for your response.

@@oban2259 "Please read what I'm about to say thoroughly: let's say someone claims they're an apostle or a messenger from God. This man had a lot of miracles to show, in which he showed constantly. Now that scientism is contaminating the air, people's first thought would be to interpret his miracles into regular actions to avoid associating that supernatural effect with God. In consequence, not effect would be considered a miracle because they would interpret it in a materialistic explanation as if that takes its miraculous element." Actually, no. Science isn't about finding ways to skirt around miracles, it's about finding evidence to learn how things work. If there is evidence to be found that shows this hypothetical apostle's miracles occur by understandable and material means, then saying "it's God" is ignoring the evidence. If no such evidence can be found, and the evidence that *is* found points to a supernatural or divine source, then even scientists would call it a miracle. Scientists aren't out to disprove religion, they're out to find evidence to uncover the truth. If the evidence points away from a godly source of events, that's something to complain to the evidence about, not to the scientists who find it. "A simpler question would be: following the orthodox scientific methodology used to day, what kind of "scientific" proof would you like me to show in order to prove God's existence, and why is the proof you chose is the right proof instead of the others." Let's not use the word "orthodox" here; in the context of this conversation, that word can get messy and confusing as it has strong connotations in religion. The scientific method is the golden standard not because some people in lab coats, or a book, said so. It's the standard because (a) it has a remarkable track record of uncovering the truth, i.e. being able to make predictions that come true, and (b) every step in the method is designed to counteract common errors and biases in human thinking. THAT is why it's the "right" proof, because it takes human error into account, actively attempts to mitigate it, and has continued to work exceedingly well as long as we've been using it. As opposed to other methods of deciding what's true, which tend to boil down to "because I think so" and/or "because someone said so", and often fail at making predictions that come true at a rate around random chance. You ask what I'd need to consider something proof of God. Let's first be clear that science never proves anything: it disproves things and supports other things. So when I say "proof" here, I'm talking about "enough support to consider the thing true". So what I'd need to consider something "proof of God" is the same thing I'd need to consider anything true: empirical evidence which is repeatable on a large enough sample size, under controlled conditions, and doesn't disappear when reproduced under peer review. That's what I'd need to prove any particular effect, such as a miracle, is real. From there, it would show that the effect exists, but not its cause; so the next step would be connecting the experimental conditions (i.e. the apostle performing their miracle) to the outcomes (i.e. the miracle itself). For that, we'd start making predictions by asking "IF this was made possible by godly powers, then what would we expect if we changed [x]?" and then making those changes to the experiment and seeing the outcome. So for instance, "If these miracles were godly in nature, then we'd expect atheists -- or at least militant atheists -- to be unable to achieve the same outcomes by performing the same experimental conditions the apostle did. So let's get an atheist in here to pretend to be an apostle and see if the results change." Stuff like that. Now, coming a bit full circle here, you claimed that prayer works. Thing is, there have been many studies on the subject, and every time a randomized, controlled trial is done on the efficacy of prayer... it gets zero results. Turns out people who believe that prayer works and believe they are being prayed for get the same benefits as a placebo (sugar pill), even if they're not being prayed for. If they believed they weren't being prayed for, then they got no benefits, even if they *were* being prayed for. And people who don't believe prayer works get no benefits in any case. If prayer worked, then we'd expect (a) the prayed-for believers to heal the same regardless of whether they thought they were being prayed for or not, and (b) the not-prayed-for believers to get no benefits even if they believed they were being prayed for, since there was no prayer. But we don't see those results. Instead, what we see lines up with the idea that people who believe they are being helped will have better symptom management and lower stress responses... which we already know because that's how placebo pills work. And they work the same whether the patient believes it's prayer or a pill or a therapy that's supposed to help them, as long as they believe they're being helped. So the power of prayer hasn't even managed to pass the "does this even work?" trials, which is a prerequisite before even starting the "how does this work? Is it God?" trials. Look, I get it, you believe in one particular deity out of the thousands that people have believed in and still believe in, and your faith is definitionally unshakable. So when science tests something your faith relies on, you have to either hope the results agree with you or else dismiss them as being "closed-minded" or "arrogant" or "antagonistic". Thing is, as I said, the scientific method is literally designed step-by--step to try and combat some of the most common cognitive biases and human mistakes. Arrogance is not admitting humans are fallible and trying to account for that; arrogance would be pretending that personal beliefs, misunderstandings, and anecdotes are less fallible than a system literally designed to fight bias. If you're interested, Wikipedia has a page that's just a list of cognitive biases, i.e. ways our fallible human brains get things wrong. It's very long and very extensive. To pretend we don't need to account for these issues is to imply that human perception and understanding is always perfect, which is far more hubris than admitting it's not and trying to do something about that.

Congratulations! It is always great to see more people open up and discuss the difficulties of conception, it is absolutely an emotional struggle that deserves to get more discussion. My wife and I suffered from 2 back to back miscarriages before we finally went the full IVF route, now we have 2 wonderful children and contemplating a third and we are JUST now finding out that PCOS is a likely cause. Hopefully as more people connect the dots science can work harder to treat PCOS in a way that allows people who wish to conceive naturally that option, considering how prohibitively expensive IVF can be....

@@selena893 I would find a good endocrinologist who is comfortable testing for and treating PCOS. It is mainly a clinical and biochemical diagnosis, meaning it's based on symptoms and blood work. The best would be a multidisciplinary approach between an experienced endocrinologist and ObGyn who come from different medical training backgrounds. The endocrinologist may be best for the initial testing for PCOS without missing other disorders or potentially misdiagnosing, and they can treat most of the time as well, but sometimes if you are specifically planning for pregnancy, then you should later also find an ObGyn to help with that.

PCOS is still not understood very well, I’m happy that you were diagnosed early and hopefully you have good docs that take it seriously. A lot of symptoms get worse with age, or more come out, especially if you don’t take care of your health, diet, exercise. Something that would have been easier to do from a young age if I had a diagnosis at that time. The pain isn’t in your head, I almost lost someone close to me because they ignored what turned out to be a melon sized cyst for so long. Hope you find some relief!

I was basically told it wasn't ever going to happen. The month before we were going to finally go to IVF to get workups done I found out I was pregnant on my husband's 42nd birthday and her due date was my birthday. Congratulations! My wife and I also got the "impossible" diagnosis too. (My sperm count was so low as to be "not readable" and my wife had blocked tubes and was over 36.) Then it happened anyway. As you can imagine we were incredibly surprised and the fertility doctor not so subtly asked if my wife had someone on the side. Our little girl is almost 3 now. She's the cutest little thing. Perfectly healthy, incredibly smart, and full of energy. I'm actually missing her a lot right now since I'm working out of the country at the moment. I'm hoping that everything will work out perfectly for you, your husband, and your soon to be baby. Parenthood is tough, but so worth it. I get that. Every OB I’ve had over my three pregnancies have denied that I have hyperemesis gravidarum. Meanwhile, 3rd time around, had to go to the ER for dehydration, lost 13lbs in less than a month and unable to get off the couch. Taking care of the other two babies is almost impossible, and I’d be totally screwed if it wasn’t for my support system. But doctors like to take the path of least resistance, and since hyperemesis is a somewhat rare and misunderstood thing (even autocorrect doesn’t recognize this word), they’d rather send me home with the lowest dose of zofran and assure me it’ll get better in the 2nd trimester. Every. Single. Time. Second trimester comes around, I’m getting worse everyday, and suddenly, low and behold, I’m telling the truth. Every doctor. Every time. Doctors are the worst.

I'm so sorry about that first doctor who didn't believe you, it's ridiculous how many women are told they're being dramatic when they can barely walk from pain. It's especially sad that the person doubting you was also a woman. Thank you for sharing your story and congrats, you deserve the best!

I got this video as a recommendation and have no idea who you are but I'm happy for you! My mom has PCOS and was told that she would probably never be able to have kids but what do you know, I'm here and my sister's doing pretty well too! I learned from "This podcast will k*ll you" that many people dismiss early warning signs associated with serious period pains as it varies from person to person but that could lead to serious future health issues. I'm glad you got that cyst in time.

CONGRATULATIONS I know there's pressure on content creators to share everything with their audience, but it's important to know your boundaries and comfort zone. That said, I know a lot of women are going to find comfort and support in sharing your experience. Good luck and here's to a healthy and happy future. I started watching sourcefed nerd back in the beginning and it's insane to realize all the life moments that have happened since then.

You never have to apologize to anyone about your announcement timing. That is your choice when and how you do that. I didn't want to tell people until I was showing because everyone has their own opinions on literally every aspect pregnancy and motherhood. You do you! I am rooting for you! You're gonna make a wonderful mom 🥰🎊

Been watching for the last few years since I've gotten interested in Japan and wanting to move there one day and one thing I love about your videos and something that sets you apart is that you tell it how it is and always keep it very real. I really like that about you and your videos and I'm so happy for ya'll and this news. Keep doing what you do and of course, looking forward to upcoming videos and showing this experience through your unique point of view. Congrats again!

Don’t feel weird about your age. Practically all of my friends (who want kids or have had them recently) are the same age as you or even older. It’s more common in our age group. Honestly, wild journey for you! I do feel you about not being believed about pain. I had similar horrible pains due to (at least what I’ve been told so far) high hormone imbalances, but I had to fight to get an ultrasound to make sure it wasn’t something worse on my second trip to the ER because I was in so much pain I couldn’t get up off of the floor, call for help, or anything until my DOG woke dog dad up since something was wrong. I’m glad that this is something the both of you are excited about! Sending you positivity for an easy rest of your pregnancy!

CONGRATS REINA!!!!! A friend of mine had the same kinda of thing happen w cysts, although it was a bunch of decent sized ones instead of one huge one. same reaction from several doctors too, very dismissive. I hope this changes in the future. May your pregnancy continue to go along smoothly! Proud of y'all.

Hi Reina! Long time viewer, first time commenter. I really appreciate you sharing your pregnancy journey in Japan with everyone. I recently found out that I'm also growing a human and am 11 weeks in. This will also be my first pregnancy and in Japan of all places rather than at home in California, so I'm truly looking forward to seeing your experiences with the systems here and providing us with any advice you may have along your journey! Huge congratulations to you and all the love and best wishes!

Congrats to you both and best wishes! 💞 My parents were having trouble conceiving, so they adopted me. Then, with the pressure off, they conceived my sister, who was born nine months later! People who don't know I'm adopted do a double take when they hear I'm only nine months older than my sister. LOL!

You don't need to worry about us. If we are genuine fans of you, then that means we're here to support you no matter what happens. And if it happens at all, which I'm predicting it might, just ignore the loudmouth haters and rude people who have nothing better to do but say hurtful things to make themselves feel more superior while they sit in their grandparents' basement with nothing but their drawls on! 😁 Biggest of congratulations 🎉🎉

Take care of yourself. My wife also went through the same ordeal. Except it was her appendix. When she real young. It wasnt like a normal appendix rupture. She was told the same thing they sent her home. She was in her class the next day, when she was rushed to the hospital. She had our only child, at the age of 31. 20 years later. My daughter is my pain and sunshine. 😆 Love your videos and congratulations to the both of you.
