You want to talk about ads, I've been seeing this on youtube. I've been noticing lately that youtube seems to prioritize their advertizers over their viewers. Before, they were trying to play 4 ads in one break by restarting the page after 2 ads ran through in order to play 2 more, and all 4 are unskippable. Then they added that feature where even if you skip the first ad, instead of going to the video like it should it takes you to the next ad. Now they're putting ad banners even after you watch it at the bottom of the video screen, and you cant exit it out like it used to back in the day, its just there and you have to deal with it. This is ludicrous

IF you've an adblocker active at all on your browser, even if youve omitted youtube from the add-on, they still hit you with the forced ads, and entirely remove the skip button. at this point youtube is being leading the charge against the use of adblocker's entirely. it has so far seemed that if you've an adblocker at all, used or not, they will slap you for it.

Quotas. I've interviewed for a position with Dexerto and their expectations are wild: - 15 articles per week - Must pitch all your own work - Must self-edit They don't seem to really care about quality, they just want you churning out content as quickly and frequently as possible for that sweet, sweet ad revenue. If you fall off your chair and projectile shit a turd onto your ceiling, you bet that will be an article. I feel bad for the "journalists" who are really just trying to earn some extra revenue and get their name out there.

EDIT: this is not meant to be a deep comment, lol. it was more to show that there's often a disconnect between the writers of these articles and their subjects. to clarify: i'm on the creative copywriting side which is a very stable, 401k-jobs type of industry, we take on projects as a company and therefore don't have to rely on digital impressions as much. Full-time writer here (not for Dexterto), to give insight on the "behind the scenes" of these articles. Whether a journalist uses AI or not doesn't really matter, the main issue is when hired, we have to crank out unreasonable amounts of articles and the more *shocking* or *clickbaity* it is, the more interactions they get. So most journalists in charge of these articles probably don't care what they're cranking out, as long as it can please the higher ups and likely to land them bonuses, etc. So the issue at the end of the day is the company model -- they don't prioritize *quality, they prioritize quantity* and when you do that, eventually you're just gonna get garbage.

I've noticed that too, that every news article is the same word for word. I would think that would be plagiarism, but somehow they get away with it, maybe cus they're all copying from one source that tells them what to write? I've looked up why it's like that and couldn't find a valid reason.
@TBG4974 күн бұрын
@@jenniferb.awesome It depends on what kind of news you mean, but if the article says somewhere it's by something like "The Associated Press", the reason it's repeated word-for-word across multiple platforms is because The Associated Press is a wire service. They do the original work, and other outlets pay them to post it on their page. It adds a bit of coverage they might not otherwise have the resources to gather themselves. Other major wires you might see include Agence France-Presse (AFP) and Reuters.

I almost got hired on for the most low-effort news content generator before. I was looking for remote work and these guys had me write a couple of trial articles - each took 10 minutes tops, just Google and skim a couple other articles and summarize them. I could tell that the point was pumping out as much content as possible, not necessarily research, fact checking or reporting. I didn't end up taking the job, but I absolutely believe that news outlets are going downhill. Everything is falling victim to the corporate greed machine, low effort + high profits and ever-increasing competition.
