Sometimes I fall asleep with my arm all the way on the pillow near me, and essentially the bloodflow is like "good bye". I have to wake up and lower my arm to resume the bloodflow, and it always feels like I'm dragging a dead arm down there that's still attached to me. It doesn't even feel mine, I can't even control it because of the shittier bloodflow. This shit scares me everytime, I'm really surprised I actually fall asleep shortly after that.

I've noticed that sleeping on my back is a big no-no and that's why I sleep on my side. Never had sleep paralysis that way - and I've had many. Last time was really mild and I woke up almost immediately, way before I felt anything too nasty. The time before that? Oh boy. I wasn't at home and they had a cat. I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't move my body. I opened my eyes and I felt the usual pressure on my chest getting heavier, and then I saw this shadow creature at the end of the bed. It stayed there, but its arms began to stretch until it got hold of my face. It had claws. Felt like cat claws puncturing my face but the fingers were almost humanlike tho longer. I was trying to shout but all that came out was this almost inaudible squeaking so to say. I tried getting up but could only move my head a bit and that's when it felt like the creature was bashing my head on the pillow. It was now slowly getting closer and the grip got harder. I finally got up, screamed, looked around and what do you know. The f*cking cat was right next to me looking at me like "bruh, what was that. I was trying to sleep". Yeah. Me too bud.

the shadow creature freaked me tf out, bc my friends expirienced the same shit in their sleep paralysis and my aunt too. we made this giant theory that really had no grounds to anything said and was all speculation but it all still made sense to us. we did some digging and started calling him the man in the top hat(mitth) or my other friend called him the shadow man. he only appeared in sleep paralysis dreams or whatever. ive only ever expirienced sometihng like this briefly, and i was sleeping in the same room that my aunt did when she had sleep paralysis dreams

Dude I deal with the same fear. I get sleep paralysis nearly every night. I am also extremely claustrophobic so when I can't move I start to panic. I also hallucinate nearly every time. Very recently I had a reoccurring nightmare that freaked me out so much that I didn't sleep for about a week. God, I know how it feels all too well, dear Muta. I've been having these sleep paralysis episodes since i was around 9 or 10 years old, and now I'm almost 21, so it's been going on for a long time. In my last episode, I've hallucinated demons standing over me, pulling on my legs and bed covers, and even felt teeth around my neck (not in a kinky, sexy way, but in a scary, the last exorcist kind of way). It was not the most terrifying one I've had either, since most of my episodes include all types of hallucinations, not just the tactile ones. Short to say, I've been terrified of sleeping at night for a few years now. I can only manage to fall asleep when the sun is up nowadays. It's been interfering with my studies as well, since I'm uni atm. It's actually kind of hard to seek help for this kind of disorder in my family, since most of them are very religious, so their advice for this kind of stuff is to pray the demons away; I've learnt this the hard way. What I couldn't give for a good night's sleep, man...
@tos4057
@tos4057 3 жыл бұрын
I feel for you man. I'm quite religious and one of the last ones I had I genuinely felt like it was a demon no joke. I felt myself being dragged and lifted with me having control. Sometimes I hallucinate sometimes I dont but when I do I pisd myself it's so scary. Some night I consider sleeping with a family member because im afraid of sleeping alone. This has been going on since I'm 13 and I remember the first time I felt this overwhelming sensation of buzzing like when you have pens and needles across my body as I couldnt move. I couldn't do anything as it slowly came closer and closer man. Once I had sleep paralysis but I'd didnt it's my own thing where I'm in a dream then all of a sudden its stops and it happens and while it happens I wake u p and experience it..wierd stuff.

Narel Adding on to this. Way back then, “ghosts” and “demons” probably didn’t exist, but the fear of monsters like those did exist. For example, caveman were probably afraid of some animals and saw them in their sleep paralysis, this could have lead to the creation of “demons.” Some people could have seen dead people or their imagined image of a dead person in their sleep paralysis, this could have lead to the creation of “ghosts.”

Also got to hear him begging and her arguing for the better part of an hour I think. I've been learning how to become more lucid during my episodes, & try to sometimes go deeper into my dream just so I can find someone to wake me up, because I now know I'm dreaming. Try wearing a sleeping mask, I also experience sleep paralysis once in a while, and wearing a sleeping mask helps. I usually had visual hallucinations in the past, but when wearing one, I only experience auditory hallucinations, like for example a high or low piched ringing. As you said everyone experiences it differently, so I have no idea if the sleeping mask would do anything for you, as you feel like someones touching you which I've never experienced, but it's worth a try changing your visual stimuli.

Tips for those suffering; 1) Don’t sleep on your back. (Some people suffer regardless of their position) 2) Keep mirrors* and clocks around your room -specifically these two items. 3) Focus your concentration to move only on one body party. Legs are strong. But start with your pinky so your arm can be freed and you feel immediate comfort because you can feel yourself and confirm you’re safe. Experiment with this one. A different body part could be more effective for you. 4) Use a nightlight or some kind of soft red-orange light or a moving nightlight 5) Keep a notebook by your bed and record every experience in detail. Writing it down more reinforces your brains ability to realize what you see is fake and regain control faster (good practice for regular dreams too) 6) Don’t eat past a certain time. Normally 4 or so hours prior to sleeping. Don’t drink water before sleeping either. If you’re dehydrated, address the issue throughout the day, not right before bed -its bad for your kidneys anyway.** 7) Some people have broken through by increasing their heart rate by breathing as heavy as they can or becoming angry 😡 8) TAKE NAPS! -and ORGANIZE YOUR SLEEPING PATTERNS!!! *If you have a phobia of mirrors, google abstract things that can replace a mirror for you. **Look below at my reply to understand why I don’t recommend drinking water before bed. A little sip won’t hurt you. Edit: tldr; these tips don’t work for everyone. Share yours below. If these tips don’t work for you, I feel for you. Otherwise, many people have already confirmed that these tips have worked for them. Please, feel free to chime in with your superior advice.

I don't think mirrors are a good idea. Some people have a phobia on mirrors when the lighting is low. It's not fun having to check every corner of your mirrored room to make sure there's nothing there. Yeah, no mirrors in my bedroom, thanks. Something interesting happened to my pretty frequent sleep paralysis episodes couple years ago. I would "wake up", not able to move, weird weight all that, but not terrified. It's important to not open my eyes, as eyes are closed I just get weird geometry stuff floating in my vision. Then I just force myself out of it. These days it's not frequent anymore

When he described being unable to move it made me think of something that happened to me when I was a kid: I think was sitting in some sort of a reclining chair in the living room with my parents, still awake, but I had been sitting still for a very long. When suddenly it was like I couldn't move and I thought I had "forgotten" how to because I had been sitting still for so long. Eventually I managed to solve it by blowing enough air through my lips to get them to move and say "mom" and then it slowly dissapeared. Again I was still awake, but idk it sounded so much like what he described and I think I had it a couple of times since.

Usually force my toes to move until I can literally tear my way out of the paralysis, thing is I’m usually pretty tired so I end up falling back to sleep when it ends and it all repeats itself within a matter of minutes.

Okay, as someone who has pretty terrible sleep paralysis problems myself mirrors sound like a horrible idea. Also, I find trying to move just sends me into more of a panic, since you have no control over your body no matter how hard you try. Honestly just teaching yourself to think rationally through it and letting it pass is probably the best thing you can do, even if it takes a lot to really get yourself to believe whats really real when faced with things you can actually feel and see.

Nice, I find breathing deep and slow is really helpful when I'm trying to fall asleep. Last time I had a sleep paralysis was like 4-5 years ago, when it happened I focused my mind on moving my fingers a little bit then to my eyes, taking a deep breath, then forcing my eyes to open. Somehow it worked but before I know this remedy to my issue I always have this little bit of anxiety before sleeping like Muta said, but now I'm not that scared anymore. Sorry for the rant.

Sleep Paralysis is caused by many variables, it's not like a nightmare where you've watched a scary movie and you have sleep paralysis, it's nornally due to stress, lack of, or too much sleep, and or meds. I've lived with it since I was a teenager. It's incredibly awful. Doctor says to ride through it, don't panic and let it happen, but I panic, immediately. Sleep paralysis is when the BRAIN goes from REM to awake, but the body does NOT. There are cycles to waking up we have naturally and when these do not line up, sleep paralysis occurs. After researching a lot of UFO abduction garbage, I can safely say all of these people likely had endured sleep paralysis. Not an alien abduction. While mine don't always manifest dark figures or tangible beings, I have had a shadow figure walk toward me slowly, this being likely the worst episode. You feel as if you ar NOT breathing, you want to simply OPEN YOUR EYELIDS and you just can't. You are screaming to scream inside your head and are feeling like you are wrapped in a wet blanket, suffocating. I can even realize my wife is next to me I try to reach for her, I feel like I'm screaming, yelling for her to please help me wake up. The mind is a powerful thing, and Muta, I have done a lot of research on this, have you realized that all episodes (99.9%) happen on your back. For this reason I lay on my stomach, but to no avail I wake up on my back during an episode. I've gone many many many sleepless nights in fear of it happening, which ironically contributes to making it happen more and more. I take a dose of benzodiazepines before bed. Good luck. To those who struggle with this chronically, I understand and you are not alone. Be well ✌️

So much that i make sure that I Fall asleep on my stomach (sleep paralysis rarely, if not, never occurs sleeping this way, it's almost always on your back), albeit I end up moving around in my sleep and end up on my back anyways... I am still a teenager I have stopped my sleeping paralysis but I'm trying to get it to happen again due to lucid dreaming.But yes when you start to panic your just making it worse, idk if i was bieng haunted or it was just sleep paralysis but when this happened to me I always slept on my side cause I also realized that most sleep paralysis happens with you laying on your back but that was a lie, it was way worse I was hearing my "sleep paralysis demons" say shit to me and laugh I dont remember what it said but i vividly remember repeating in my head "ima do it leave me alone" i dont recall what it said or what it was asking me to do but it was also touching my back it was a scary experience especially cause I panicked and made it worse.Then I learned belly breathing it helped when ever it happened and I was calm it turned to a whole different dream better than sleep paralysis.

Kevin Dewey usually i get sleep paralysis when laying on my back, but recently ive been having it while laying on my stomach and sides and its weird how different it is than having it while on your back. a couple weeks ago i woke up on my side unable to move until i felt something quickly crawl up from the bottom of my bed and grab on to me, laying on top of me. for some reason, instead of screaming i breathed in really quickly and it somehow let me move. i looked to check what was there and of course nothing. and now yesterday i had it in like short episodes throughout the night like i would wake up having it for a few seconds and then fall right back asleep having it again, but laying in a different position everytime i woke up. it was really weird because i would wake up staring into a blank room while hearing voices and things grab onto me, but i think the weirdest part of it all was that i could slightly move while it was happening this time, extremely slowly, but i could move.

@@terrFW I've had these partial episodes too, while they aren't as bad as a full blown episode, I do find too that they will happen ALL night/morning and I'm unable to really 'snap out of it' or get up and stay up, I go right back to sleep comfortably only for it to happen again and again. I've never had sleep paralysis on my stomach. I find that odd, and I've not talked to anyone that has. A strange phenomena, that we can conclude is where all the "UFO abduction" stories come from.... The one time I had sleep paralysis was when I was around 10 years old. At the time I had no knowledge of sleep paralysis and I had not watched any horror movies on that night or anything. I used to sleep in an upstairs room with my bed facing a direction that I could watch the door. I had fallen asleep in only a few short minutes, unusual for me, as usually I stay up late. I awoke to footsteps. Heavy, slow footsteps and breathing. Suddenly I could almost swear my door opened, revealing a figure that looked demonic. I could not see a face, only horns and glistening fangs. I think it spoke to me. I tried to move and scream but I couldn't. All I could do is lay there and silently cry. When I came to as this manifestation of my darkest thoughts was but inches from my face in the darkness, I screamed for help and suddenly the figure was gone and the door had been closed. I will never forget that night as it is probably the most horrifying thing I have ever experienced and all but the smallest of details remains permanently etched into my mind. God, sometimes I feel as if I'm going to descend into madness because I almost feel like that wasn't just some sleep paralysis side affect. It just felt and sounded so real.

I’ve dealt with sleep paralysis most of my life. I’m 32 now and can remember having sleep paralysis as early as 8 years old. Back then, my constant nightmares would bleed over into this experience creating some pretty horrific times. I only had sleep paralysis every so often but as I got older, it became more and more frequent to the point of being pretty much every night now. Sad to say I’m used to it now. It’s more of an annoyance than anything. Regular dreams are a rarity. I still have nightmares regularly but luckily they no longer bleed over into the experience for some reason. Lack of sleep has led to waking dreams including paranoid delusions and hallucinations, whether visual ones of people in the distance standing and staring at me, grinning faces in a dark hallway, or auditory ones of someone in the house yelling from another room or whispering in my ear. Now, when I get sleep paralysis, the only thing I can do is hope to be lucid enough to tell myself to just let go. If I can do that, I won’t fight to wake up. I’ll let myself fall back into a slumber. It took a long time for me to get to that point but after dealing with it for so long, eventually you just give up.

I had an experience a few nights ago where I passed out at my desk. I woke up blurry and foggy, tried moving but I couldn’t. I freaked out because it was one of a handful of times it happened. The worst part is that I had been watching the house for the night. The problem was I had heard noises out in the hall. I flexed my abs just enough to get me to slouch forward and smack my head off a cup on my desk. I rocketed awake, grabbed the knife on my desk, glass breaks on the floor cut my foot to shit. I get to the door and find out it was just my big ass dog walking down the wood hallway and smacking on my door to get in and go to bed.

I've been dealing with sleep paralysis for at least 5 years. My most reliable (and actual only one) way to snap out is somewhat try to coordinate my breath circle, starting slower, increasing the pace breath after breath, til my last breath is the same as when you're reemerging after a 20 seconds apnea. hoping this was somewhat useful.

i used to have a similar fear of sleeping for a few years, although it was also a fear of being actually attacked when i slept. this caused me to have extreme anxiety and i would frequently mess up my sleep schedule because my irrational fears made it hard to sleep. this plagued me until about 2 weeks ago when i went to sleep without thinking about it at all, and i havent experienced it since. its kind of strange because even now when i consciously think about it and look at the room around me, i can just brush off my fears and fall asleep. the brain works in ways it cant even understand it seems. i still worry about slipping back into my previous state but i try to just focus on the present. muta i hope you and anyone else that suffers from fears of falling asleep will go through something similar, bless.

Living alone greatly amplifies these 'episodes' and what I found to be the most useful is to browse some simpleton sites like 9GAG or Reddit for about half an hour. It fills your brain with all sorts of harmless information like puppies and outdated memes that it processes everything during the night subconsciously. Also if you don't have an alarm set, don't force yourself to sleep either by laying in bed without being actually tired. If your work schedule permits it, try sleeping during the day when the sun is just about rising and wake up BEFORE the sun has fully set to wake up naturally (with daylight). When I have sleep paralysis I repeat the thoughts "No one is interested in my house or building, there are hundreds like it", "I am not interesting to anyone or _thing_ and there are dozens more people in my street", "No person or _thing_ is limited to night time, if something were to happen it could have happened during the day".
