I’m 55 in the PNW US. Yes, life gets to be a grind. I’m just glad I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Lived my 20s in the 90s. Life was a lot more fun back then. ALOT MORE.

Im currently 75, retired after a 40 year career, single, not rich, but $ comfortable. Still your questioning resonated with me. I stopped drinking a year ago, have lost weight, increased walking, and "forcing" myself to be more open and available to people in general' notwithstanding their differing viewpoints and beliefs. Ive also tried to reduce the focus on me and my mistakes and show more appreciation, or at least less arrogance--not so easy for an introvert who is trying to gain more wisdom. Given our difference in age, experiences, and challenges, our goals and path may be different but I hope to learn from you as I follow your journey with great interest!

I'd say they're dramatically different. Your generation had affordable housing and didn't have this culture of zero hour contracts and dead-end jobs as the norm. Then you had Thatcher who completely sold this country out, and then Brexit, which has made us so much poorer (and will continue to do so until we eventually rejoin in say 20 odd years time). I can certainly respect people cutting back on their vices and trying to take control of their minds, bodies and lives, but there really is no escaping the prison which many young people face, not unless there is radical change (and voting for Reform would be like voting for petrol to put a fire out).

I'm worried for the youth .. I'm 61 .. former military coder .. Had my best time in the 80s, seen the entire World .. a couple of years ago I decided to re-record my music after 30+ years without touching music .. one year in I was hit by a massive stroke (brain) .. You're absolutely right, don't buy a house - live .. I might have been lucky to become a coder before I was 10 thanks to someone that taught me in the middle of nowhere in the Arctic .. I can't code post-stroke, I watch video's like yours, listen and understand your frustrations. I'd have been so frustrated if we were to live this era .. I guess the only thing you can do is to let go and go somewhere, take it from there - See what life have in hand .. I know, one need funds, but you'll be surprised how far you can go without - I wish you to live your life the best you can, use your human abilities and never let society dictate a damn thing .. Find a job you can tolerate (or even like if you're lucky) where you earn enough to pay bills, go on a holiday or two a year, and fill the rest of the time having experiences and spending time with the people you love. You are absolutely right with what you're saying. The economy is beyond repair. Its everything housing costs are completely unreasonable, you give up all of your income on bills. Going out for a pint is not really an option these days it's far too expensive. Most people have had enough. They move to this country thinking how great it is and soon realise it was a big mistake. I'm 44 now and it's been home, work, pay your bills, pay for food, clean up - drink and go back to square one again. What's the point in that. I would do anything to move out of here go to Australia maybe or US and start over. This is not a way to live your life. No wonder mental health is so high and people's lives are dysfunctional. Accepting this is wrong and doing something about it is the first step to making everything better and meaningful.

Don't you think everything is physical? For example, I don't have intrusive thoughts, only when I suspect that my digestion is not perfect, especially if I eat things that irritate my gut, even though I got no symptoms. Starches in big quantities and uncooked fiber does this for me. Other than that, I have no issues. And I had 5 years ago intensive adrenaline and anxiety, went on meds, felt like no one, miserable, tired, afraid, naive, insecure and low confidence. After I went through a period of discovering the real nutrition, by increasing my metabolic rate, things improved till the point of resolving all my insecurities by itself. I mean, I didn't work on myself to not have those intrusive thoughts and neither I tried to change my mentality in some way. I just became more independent by my way of being, but I didn't aim to do it. I think a healthy body tends towards being yourself. Forcing it the other way around doesn't work long term

We are the architects of our life Callum. Opportunities will come and go, but we need to take the necessary risks when they arrive. Stepping out of our 'comfort zone' is the key to growth, and getting used to handling pressure, stress and adversity from all aspects is what defines our character. I did the 9-5 mundane misery in my early 20s, and then I decided to travel working abroad for adventure. I am 43 now with a wife, children, good house, business and a life I love. But it was really hard work and I made a lot of sacrifices, and still do to this day. There are still hard times as the more you grow, the more you don't want to lose it. If I were to speak to my 31 year old self now, I'd say go out and take risks, don't give a f*** what others think, learn all you can, and find what you love doing.

You may have been raised by narcissistic people, typically expect perfection when its not a reality. Life is what you decide to make it, our status in regards to money does determine alot of what happens to us as individuals. Yes, "less is more" seems to be a Danish mindset and research shows Danish people are maong happiest in the world, so you mght be on to something. In my humble view humans have always had a hard time trying to accept that that they are in fact highly developed monkies with overgrown brains and more free time not devoted to searching for food and shelther than other primates would have. And for some reason humans have always tried to invent reasons why each of them that belongs to the same spiece is supposed to be " exceptional", "better than others", "a rare odd piece who is on the verge of being a genius". I have always liked biology, I have never denied being a part of a natural kingdom, I have never tried to mentally defend myself against the concept of evolution of the spiecies, so I had none of such "attachments to outcome". I was raised in high discipline so I might have self-directed perfectionism tendencies but I am aware of my up-bringng, so I keep them in check. Also following "less is more" logic. Cannot complain. I do not like setting unrealistic goals for myself. I do not complain about being " as mediocre as everyone else". I do not buy into all this "get out of your comfort zone" pep talk. To me a livingcreature that gets out of its own comfort zone may very well die prematurely. Most members of each spiecie are "mediocre" or "average". This is why they are able to survive. Those who are on extremes don't have an easy life. It's the matter of just a few IQ points for example between being a genius and suffering from madness, between being full of energy and being doomed to be constantly depressed. While being "mediocre" increases the chances of leading a longer, calmer more satisfying life. A pity many people fail to appreciate it and fail to adopt "less is more" mindset but knowing guys like you exist gives me back hope in humanity so to speak. Let's hope you can promote some way. In a less is more manner of course. At least among people near you. ;-) After any change for the better has to start somewhere.

I used to feel trapped in a desperate situation, with nothing to look for in life. That was when I finished high school and failed to enter a university. I was lucky to make a turn by getting into the easiest university to get into. I made it as a starting point and earned my way to a happy one today. Education is a key really.

I have learned it is very important that you have hobbies and passions that you pursue daily; & meaningful relationships with your family and friends to share life with, the good, bad and ugly. Support, be supported, to nurture, care, share and engage and be open to receiving it all in return. It's the little things in life that make it worth living, so make them count. Good luck mate!

I hear you , Cal! The question is: What is this "life" now? I think it is not what it was anymore. We are changing to a new world of awareness. Changing the game, or rather, stop playing the game and living our purpose which comes from within. Remove yourself from the negative. I hear you. I am 55 yrs old and still at the point where I was at 30 yrs old. But I learned a lot. There is so much more than we can see and society asks from us. What are we asking from ourselves? Is my question now. Matrialism and consumerism is the old world, going within and connecting to your soul is the new world. Choose to disconnect from the matrix and connect to your soul's purpose. Not easy and it is hard work. A different perspective if you will. Much Love from The Netherlands

You just said it" Cost of living" , stops you being able to do lots of things, its then just work to live in the UK, America is the same but more expensive.. Society has changed, no real face to face conversations anymore, people are all wrapped up in themselves and social media, I'm 52yrs old and have seen the changes, my partner died recently quite young and that grief has done strange things to me.. Life is what we make it and it is short, when i was young it was the start of the home computer and was an exciting time to be young now we have it all, its not the same.. Lots of negative changes are occuring in Britain and everyone is feeling it, including the farmers the WEF government want us to have nothing and be happy.. Its all part of the plan and everyone is feeling the pinch...

The very first step for anyone to break out is to realize that you're not a victim, you're a volunteer. You decide to buy in. You decide to stay stuck in the familiar for the illusion of safety. It takes courage to change. I'm 72, made the change at 33. You're on the right path. Get sober, get fit, dump the loser "friends", make the changes you know are necessary. Right now you're motivated. That will come and go. Discipline is what will separate the winners from the losers.

I’m currently traveling in Morocco at the moment and loving it. UK will always be home because of my roots and family connections but your right, people there are so so negative. When you start traveling you meet people who are so more optimistic, driven, inspiring on a daily basis. Each day is a new adventure. Not the same old shit in the uk where the days roll into weeks months then years. Most people in the UK have given up on their hopes and dreams. My advice two words ‘GET OUT’ you can always go back! Nothings forever don’t be scared. Thank you again wish you the best pal. Your’ll be sound. You have the right attitude which is all that matters ✌🏼 ❤️

Bro, I tell you I am 44, living in London, and still on the hustle, now with the new digital era there are more opportunities to achieve something more meaningful, but still, to leave the matrix the closest would be to go to the bush with no phones, co's even if you do on a van, and do You Tube, you are still plugged in! I at the age of 43 decided to leave Hospitality, after 25 years, and I am trying to make a digital income to go to the mountains, and you are right, as Morpheus said, some people no matter what they'll defend the system, as it's easier, not a lot of thinking involved! Calling someone 'bro' is just a habit I picked up during my years living in New Zealand-it's a cultural thing, really. As someone who speaks three languages, I tend to use 'bro' universally as a term of connection, meaning we're all humans and, in a way, brothers. Indeed. For all who find it 'unthinkable' to escape from their life, remember, at some point most of our ancestors fled some country to move to our current country mostly for economic reasons... when it's no longer economically feasable, or whatever.. the life is just drudgery and misery, have the same courage as your ancestors had, and move to greener pastures. Try E. Asia... Thailand, Vietnam... or plenty of places around E. Europe, Asia... for low cost of living and higher quality of life.
