Bought one new in 2004 when I lived in the UK. Manual transmission. Gearbox crapped out after 90,000 miles when it was just out of warranty. The dealer I bought from agreed to replace but at great cost to myself. Contacted Honda UK. The guy I spoke with was very concerned. He made contact with the dealer and told them to repair it, and Honda UK would cover the cost. Very happy and relieved.

Quote: 2008 Honda Fit - 10Best Cars Entertainingly small. The Fit belongs to a class-basic transportation-that we once acknowledged with a patronizing pat on the head but now take more seriously. There are two reasons for this. The first is obvious: Soaring fuel costs and environmental concerns are making small cars increasingly popular. The second is not so obvious: Basic transportation no longer means deprivation. Not only does the Fit deliver what you’d expect-high mpg numbers and low ownership costs-but it also delivers something you might not: high-quality interior appointments, a high level of usefulness, and a high fun-to-drive index. The Fit scores well in those areas of unexpectedness. There seems to be more room inside this car than the tidy exterior could possibly contain, the seats flop and fold to yield great cargo versatility, and the interior appointments would do justice to an Accord. But it’s the Fit’s agility and terrier spirit that win our hearts. With 109 horsepower, blazing acceleration isn’t part of the deal, but it’s worth noting that the Fit posted an astonishing speed in our lane-change test (71.4 mph), outhustling pedigreed athletes such as a Ferrari F430 Spider F1, and topped a seven-car comparison [“$15,000 Cheap Skates,” May 2006].

In late 2010, I was shopping for a car, and looked at the available economy cars. The baseline was $9,999 for a Hyundai Accent hatch or a Nissan Versa sedan. The Accent was just too small and uncomfortable and rode really rough. The Versa sedan had no rear folding seats, which would have enabled some carrying of longer cargo. I looked at the Fit, but it was running around $15,400 at the time. I ended up with a Versa Hatch when they had a $2,000 rebate on the base car with a manual transmission, which brought it down to $11,300. -- I really loved the Fit, but it was just too damned expensive, $4,100 more expensive than the Versa for a roughly equivalent car. I pay cash for my cars. I see car loans as financial stupidity. When money's tight, I'll find a cheap used car, like the 5-year-old Subaru Legacy wagon I once got for $3,000 because someone had keyed the paint job. -- The Versa served me well (like a mini-minivan), but I didn't get a chance to see how long it would last. I was living in an apartment right on a bay in Massachusetts, and in 2018 there was a 100-year high tide that flooded the building and the parking lot, leading to the condemnation of the building and the totalling of the car. Homeless and car-less, I jumped on a 2015 Versa Note manual with 18,000 miles for $7,800, located at a dealer about 10 miles from my friend's basement where I was living. Nissans degraded in quality when they merged with Renault, but they didn't get as bad as Hyundai/Kia. -- Versas are ugly cars, I know, but buying cars to impress women and friends leaves you with the kinds of women and friends who are impressed by cars. -- All that said, the Honda Fit was a really impressive little car, the best choice in the segment for someone who isn't a cheap bastard like me.

The Fit is the only Honda in the current line up that hearkens back to the old googly civics of the early 80s - back when Hondas were truly "civic". It is truly a throwback. I love mine and it has taken me on many grand adventures. A great car for dense urban environments like San Francisco, but also totally capable of driving me out to Big Bend in Teaxas. Those back seats also flip up, too, creating an even further space without having to use the trunk area.

I still own a 2012 Fit Sport. 5 sp conventional automatic w/paddles. No direct injection or dash screens. Only 56k miles. Lots of utility and space for it's size. Most hate small cars and subcompacts have disappeared in US. I used them for commuting and found them to be more fun to drive and easy to park and maneuver.. So far, I have only replaced the battery, fluids, filters and tires. No repairs but AC has a slow leak. Third generation got better mileage with CVT and DI. I prefer the simpler, proven tech but it is no longer available in new vehicles. f I had to replace it, it would likely be with a larger Civic, Mazda 3, etc.

I have a 2010 Honda Fit Sport with the paddle shifters and they are fantastic cars in the snow. When the snow gets deep, shift from automatic to paddle shifting and keep it in the highest gear possible. This reduces the torque that you don't want when you're in snow, but it automatically shifts into lower gear before the engine craps out. I got up many snowy inclines this way when I drove him in a blizzard. That was a scary night, but we made it. It won't go up the steeper snowier inclines that a 4WD or AWD could handle, but it did much better than your average FWD or RWD vehicle of that size... and without chains. I imagine that with chains or studs, it'd be damn near unstoppable, but I wouldn't want to put those on a Fit. In most cases, you would want to wait out that type of situation anyway.

It may not be selling much in the US but in other parts of the world, this car is in demand because of its reliability, cheap to maintain and run, clever design (once the back seats are folded flat, you can put a lot) and great looks as well. Offcourse it’s not for those who are into driving pleasure like 0-60, cornering, handling, doughnuts and all of those stuffs that’s not important to the average person. I’ve seen many of these being abused and still runs very well. It’s probably the best made compact sedan overall.
