I used to live in the projects in Lancaster, there's parts where you're just told not to go. I remember waking up and hearing a gang fight in the parking lot outside my window, and hearing gunshots from like... right outside my door. It was getting pretty rough towards the end of my time there, and fortunately I ended up moving away from there before it got any more serious.

Swoozie, you're great! The looks you give are funny. w Its probably strange to hear, but I grew up in Utah, in a city by Salt Lake, and it was kind of sketchy. I hardly ever saw people just sitting around, but there would be cops in our neighborhood at least once a week, and they would go around knocking on people's doors asking about someone I'd never heard of all the time. People were secretive most of the time, but I had neighbors who'd kill strays, and there were drug dealers. I could tell firstly because of all the cops always circling around, and our outdoor light would always be broken. One of our fences had the top smashed down from people jumping the fence. I lived in a dead end. Not even kidding, one time two cars were parked outside my house with their headlights shining on each other, and they were standing in the middle talking. Next, I hear gun shots, and they peel off. I don't live there anymore, but they started trying to make it a better neighborhood.

I grew up in geto/hood and one way to tell if your in that area, there are always houses for rent but never keep anyone there. When I was 8 I moved to a zero crime, middle class, 100% white neighborhood and I was surprised to find that all the houses around me, people had actually bought. Wish I'd known that before I started betting with my brother who would be evicted first.

I remember when I had a similar experience like this. 1st of all, I was a foster child, 2nd, I was fostered into a black family (I am a white woman). I think I was around 11 or 12 (it's hard to remember my middle school years) I lived I California, and lived in a **low key** hood. I don't know how, but my Dad somehow ended up lost on our first couple of months from moving (PROBABLY CAUSE MY SISTER WAS THE DIRECTOR)! We pulled into the closest street, it didn't take long to find out it WAS COMPTON! I can remember my dad looking around and saying "ohhhhhhh, shhhitt. we gotta leave." My dad ended up pulling into a parking lot and said he was gonna ask for directions, what I didn't understand at the time was when he was putting loose Change and other things worth something away (now I know it was to not attract anyone) and told me and my sister to just lay on the car ground... I know, weird, right? I did (cause I was a suck up back then) my dad shut the door, locked me in the car and pulled on all the handles to be sure. at this point I start to panic, as though more than 1 person has walked up to the car, looked through the window, either saw me and ran away, or didn't and tried to open the door. when my dad came back, he hopped in the car and speeded down the street to the exit. I'm sooooooo *NOT* thug life..
