Unpopular opinion: They're not wrong. Apple doesn't use the same processors that Windows laptops do. For the U series they use 28W processors with Iris graphics instead of 15W with HD graphics like most Windows laptops do. For the H series they get processors with Iris Pro series graphics. This wait for apple to refresh after Windows laptops isn't new. It happens every generation because it takes Intel a little while to ramp up production of those higher spec chips. The new U series that apple will put in it's 13 inch isn't out yet and was only just recently leaked as part of Intel's Bean Canyon NUC lineup. Once the i7-8559U and i7-7920HQ 8th gen equivalent are in higher volume production they'll release the new Macbook 13. They didn't and have never used the i7-8550U equivalent in a Macbook Pro. The 7920HQ equivalent for the Macbook 15 doesn't even exist yet on Intel's own website so they likely won't release either one until after that has been released. Apple is slow, but you guys are being unreasonable and ignorant about how they function. Disclaimer: I own an HP Omen X Compact VR Backpack, a Pixelbook, and hopefully soon a GPD Win 2. My wife is the Apple fanatic so I keep up with the tech so she doesn't buy dinky hardware when they haven't upgraded yet.

The case with the iPhone back glass repair is 100% done on purpose, it's not like they missed that people will break their phones and subsequently didn't think to make the back easy to replace. This has been a thing for a long while, it's practically their business model. Magsafe and iPhone chargers breaking, the removal of the headphone jack and introduction of dongles, throttling of older iPhones, the list goes on. It's all the same. However, they can charge these prices because people will still pay the money. Apples customers basically are screwing themselves by buying blindly into the hype every year. The only way Apple are going to change this is if people start using common sense and not buying into the stupid hype.

I think Apple are very cynical about how they make their money, they really think their loyal user base are mugs. Take the Mac Mini for example, when they realized people were upgrading them cheaply and turning them into capable home pcs they introduced soldered on RAM, SSDs with Apple propriety connectors, crappy base models that no-one wants to buy. Or selling iPhones with 16GB storage. Fitting propriety connectors like (lightning) when everyone else is using micro usb and usb-c. Removing the headphone jack. Bringing out a laptop with only one port that is also the charging port. Making us use dongles in 2018!! Bringing out a 'pro' model laptop with a jokey touch strip for doing smiley emoticons?! Old processors are just the tip of the iceberg. Apple are laughing at us.

Bingo! I've been questioning Apple's design and marketing decisions for years! I've long been asking, why are people so willing to pay so much more for so much less? But then again I'm typically ahead of the curve on most things. Seems like many consumers are now starting to catch up and are finally realizing there is fee for being part of the Apple flock.
@DenGuleBalje6 жыл бұрын
Kryptonian GL There will always be people who just want things to look familiar and good and "just work". Also, the lack of bloatware is a huge part of it. The fact that you can go one place and install all your programs by having an app store is comforting for people who are afraid of viruses and PUPs. They've found a successful formula, but they now need to actually innovate to stay relevant. Windows 10 is actually not terrible at the moment and now there are Windows 10 laptops that feel as premium as a MacBook, XPS 13/15, Lenovo Carbon X1 etc. They still have the image, but they don't have any technological edge.
@kryptoniangl73816 жыл бұрын
Kristoffer Johnsen can't argue with you there. There are ways to remove bloatware from Windows devices that come with that sort of thing; however, that can be a bit of work for some who may not be willing to fiddle with. I grew up with both windows and MAC machines, so flipping back and forth is not a big deal for me but I completely agree with you that it can be for others.
@DenGuleBalje6 жыл бұрын
Kryptonian GL Yeah. I either run MajorGeek's PC Decrapifier or just get a clean Windows image and install the drivers manually. Right now I run Ubuntu 18.04 on my laptop and Windows 10 on my desktop (Have played around with dual booting with a Mac OS install in the past and it works great). Changing back and forth isn't as hard as people make it out to be. They're more and more similar I think.

That's interesting. I am in the opposite boat. PC/Android currently switching to Apple. I think you'll feel misled on the other side. The other side promises all these wonderful specs at lower price points, yet they simply do not run as well/smoothly as apple products. I dislike the whole industry right now because it seems you have to sacrifice hardware specs for software smoothness or software smoothness for hardware specs. I got sick of my things just simply not working properly, so I am making the switch. I just got a 2014 Macbook Pro (16 GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, 2.3 GHz i7) and it works way better than the PCs I've used over the last several years (Dell, Fujitsu , Windows Surface Pro, Lenovo yoga). Currently looking to get a new iPhone even though I hate how overpriced they are. Side note: The things I like about this older Macbook Pro is it still has USB ports, an SD card reader, and an HDMI port.
@Johanneslol116 жыл бұрын
I think it really comes down to a lot of personal preference too. I Like Apple products, especially there build quality. That being said I have a windows laptop and zero issues regarding software or so. :) The older MacBooks are far better because of the good amount of ports, Thunderbolt simply is not always a good option. But lets be honest, all computers/smartphones/ tablets have issues nowadays it is more like a pick your poison and where you can live with...

I hate Apple and their products for one reason. They sell garbage tech that looks nice for an extreme premium. That's the same as Porche putting an old EJ25 engine in their 2019 cars and telling you to pay for a new engine once the (very notorious) head gasket leak happens. You pay for the name and get trash. Now, I'm not going to defend any other high end brands for selling expensive computers with premiums for their name *cough* ASUS *cough* but they at least use very respectable parts that perform very well and are actually up to date with current specs while Apple wants to shovel crap at their customers just because they will buy it anyways. Hell, I don't even believe that 90% of Apple customers understand the difference between the 7th and 8th gen processors from Intel or what the difference between single channel 8GB DDR4 and dual channel 16GB DDR4 is. If they were at least more educated on what the difference in performance is, I'm sure most of them wouldn't buy their tech. When it comes down to someone like a student who wants to buy a computer for school and prefers Apple then sure, go for it. Still going to get ripped off but at least they aren't going to be hurt in the long run due to things like single channel memory paired with a 7th gen dual core processor. While professionals, who DO need to use Apple software/hardware for their jobs, get brutally raped in the wallet just to be able to stand toe to toe with a $1,200 laptop produced by MSI. The price gouging is just absolute disgraceful and I personally believe that if Steve Jobs were alive, this NEVER would have happened. Before his passing, Apple actually made strides to keep up with the competition and made somewhat wise choices on the pricing of their devices. Now it's all about "I have a Mac and you don't so you're poor and gross". It's just pathetic and disgusting. Not to mention the battle that Apple is waging against 3rd party repair shops like Louis Rossman who actively repair Apple and PC's alike. Apple is actively trying to prevent people like him from being able to repair these devices so when your $5,000 Mac falls over and breaks or short circuits, you'll need to fork over the same amount of money (or in Linus Tech Tips video, they needed to either buy a new one of make a black market deal to buy a new screen) just to have the device repaired or replaced. Apple doesn't want normal people to be able to repair their devices because that is another source of income for them. You spend $1,000 on a shitty glass iPhone just to drop it 3 weeks later and suddenly you need to fork over $600 to fix it because they have software and hardware in place that will brick your phone if you take it to a repair shop that isn't Apple. That is shady business practice and I personally refuse to ever give that company a dime of my hard earned money. Honestly, neither should anyone else. Apple should face bankruptcy or a complete overhaul of their company so they stop fucking people over for a quick buck.

It's part of their "check list" method of repair. for example. let's label parts as A through F. if there's a problem with part D, they don't just replace part D. they adamantly have to replace parts A through C before they replace part D. which is an absolutely stupid method of repairing a device, and racks up the cost massively. Though, Apple gets away with it because so many of their customers don't know how technology works, and thinks that they have to replace a whole bunch of parts that don't need replacing to fix the phone. they don't know better. And they get suckered into paying the massive "repair" cost, or just buy a new phone. Because that's why they do that, they make the customer pay for rip off repairs in order to make them think they'll get a better deal trading in their current phone for a new one, so that apple can take the broken one, repair it for super cheap, and resell that "broken" phone as "used" to another customer.

I think the most interesting thing is that Apple continues to be successful with the products they release despite their increasing expensiveness and it's actually the customers' fault for enabling Apple by continuing to buy their products. That's the thing, apple hasn't seen any stagnation in their success so until people actually move on from Apple, they're more likely to start giving what the people actually want.
@Photomeike6 жыл бұрын
IM.Synikal a big problem is no one is trying to jump on the opportunity to compete with Apple and steal some of their customer base. Widows make a cool laptop. But their phones suck. Samsung makes cool phone but their computers are trash. The Apple ecosystem is one of the biggest reasons why a lot of people including myself continue to buy Apple products. I can’t see how Microsoft still hasn’t figured out a way to compete with Apple as opposed to just being the alternative. Quality products that communicate with each other and a excellent OS system from another company would really give Apple a run.
@andreimihai23526 жыл бұрын
The reason people keep buying their devices is publicity, Apple products are all over the place starting from offices to teenagers. They have a really strong marketing packed in a eye catching box. You see Apple products even in Movies or TV Shows. It might sound silly but that affects a lot. If you see a lot of people having a thing you will want it too, it's just psychology. Same with Music, you hate a certain song but you end up listening to it and liking it just because everyone else does. The only thing I like about iPhones is the OS and how Apps are designed for this particular OS. This is the last year I'm buying an iPhone tho, Samsung looks really appealing and the features they provide are overwhelming. I'm not going to pay 1000$ for a smartphone that has a 2018 standard's display. iPhones are stuck in 2015 and that's the truth, same design, really small performance improvements (maybe the Geekbench shows a tremendous difference but in daily usage is barely noticeable) and not even features that have been heavily requested for years. For 2 years in a row including this one they announced a bunch of features and stuff and they got canceled after the hype was drained about them. I'm tired of getting "new innovative things" without new and innovative in them at the end. Next purchase is a Galaxy without discussion.
@sewercat99176 жыл бұрын
I used to get away with Apple because their products retained value so well. You could sell a used one and upgrade and keep it pretty affordable. I priced a new Macbook with the 8th gen CPU and 32gb of RAM and a GPU and SSD comparable to my 2017 Macbook.. $3800 before tax and apple care. That’s a $4300 laptop after taxes and apple care and still less powerful than a Dell XPS at $2600 after taxes and support services. They’re jacking the prices up so fast it doesn’t matter that they hold their value. You can’t even get a thrid of the price of a new one by selling last year’s model anymore.

They always picture their products as a piece of art, not a piece of tech. When you put it that way, "well-built" doesn't always mean durable. A well-built pottery bowl is aesthetically pleasing, but no one expects it to be impact-proof. Their user base seems to follow the same way of thinking. It's beautiful, "well-built", nice looking UI, nice experience, etc, while completely ignoring the (most of the time) lackluster hardware. But of course, they won't know it since they're locked deep inside the Apple ecosystem. edit: no hate to Apple user base. I like iPhones and I came close to getting one, and iPads are amazing. But Apple products aren't all perfect, some of them are just plain silly.

You can’t force a company to redesign their products to make it easier to repair. However they have filed lawsuits against 3rd party repair shops which has no standing whatsoever. There is no law that allows apple to shut down these repair shops. This is despicable but not technically illegal since you can file a lawsuit about anything you want, regardless if you are wrong. So no, strictly speaking Apple isn’t doing anything illegal in this regard. Scummy? absolutely.

I would have 5-10 projects a week during this time and there's no way I could render them with a windows laptop that didn't cost me $8k+. Apple products aren't for gaming. They're for high processing tasks and they used to do it the best. Now I can get a $2000 windows laptop that does processing at least 3x faster. Hardware is getting cheaper and Apple isn't really liking that apparently. Sorry Apple, I'm not a blind fanboy, I didn't buy Mac because the brand.

Now, for laptops they are more restricted. You can't just build them at home like desktops. Apple made just fine laptops; however, there were always microsoft laptops that surpassed them. And no, the pc laptops didn't cost $8k+. You could get a windows laptop, basically throughout all of history, that was more powerful, and lower cost, than apple.

Apple has not always been this way. Back in the day it was Windows that was all about locking people in and exercising their monopoly power, while Apple was more open and dedicated to cross compatibility (re: software). I’ve been using Apple products since the early 90s and have been getting more and more frustrated over the last decade or so. Over the past 6 or so years they have been making upgrading your computer more and more impossible until now when there is essentially nothing you can change after the initial purchase, which is utterly insane in my book.

Jobs always had it in his head to not let people pick components, he even used non standard screw designs to put people off opening up the cases, that's been around since the early days. But it's now got to the extreme level where they are trying to stop repairs to products and artificially keep costs high. Don't get me wrong I admired Jobs in many ways, but never liked that school of thought. I'm not MS fan either they've had their run ins with customers, but MS is primarily a software company (and MS Windows days of paying for the OS are pretty much over for them). I don't hate Apple I just find their products massively overpriced

I’m sorry but anyone who is trying to even defend Apple products at this point are absolutely delusional. I’ve owned Macbooks since 2006. My first laptop. I use iMacs at work and use an iPhone personally. And even I know Apples hustle is to profit off of a trendy line of gadgets that have loyal die hard fans. They’re not trying to be the “latest” because they don’t need to be anymore. as a designer I will always have to use Macs as it’s just necessarily to use both PC and Macs, but Macbooks are nothing more than a luxury product to me now. You’re delusional if you really think you buy a Macbook because “it’s the best option”. No you buy it because you like the way it looks, yolo can afford luxury devices, or because you’re simply a loyal fan. As a designer who works heavy with motion graphics and video editing, you can spend hundreds less on way better specs on a new PC laptop. Up until a couple of years ago I still thought Apple made the best screens for designs but man, Windows laptops have gotten way too good over the last 2 years. Apple sucks.

I guess you don't value personal preference and software, further Apple is one of the only OEMs that take the correct approach to battery vs. internal volume. Apple updated all their Macs to 8th Gen parts, so outside of graphics, Windows OEMs aren't any better.
@findingwithterry6 жыл бұрын
When you use words like absolutely and delusional, instead of just explaining your points, which are probably largely valid, you lose credibility. I largely don't have issues with the design of PC hardware but I have issues with Windows as an operating system and eco-system, so that's going to make it hard for me to go that way. Not impossible but no incentive enough at this point for me to switch over and that's fine. Macs are expensive for what they are and Apple is definitelymaking misteps but I know that and have made the reasonable trade off. I am not absolutely (because absolutes are rarely true) and I am not delusional because implies that I have no self critical evaluation tools but I will defend Apple products in a well rounded way that acknowledges their issues. You are not sorry, you are upset (rightly so perhaps) and want to feel better by saying that people delusional but that's not correct or appropriate. I do buy Macbooks because they're the best option for what I want. What I want is for me to decide. They are NOT perfect. I acknowlege that. As for the money, yes, they are expensive comparatively but not so much so that saving properly and not wasting money doesn't solve. Anyway, more nuanced criticism and honesty about personal grievance rather name calling and absolutes would be nice.
@clarkjames15106 жыл бұрын
no they didn't, they only upgraded the laptops, and i doubt they'll upgrade their desktops any time soon, unfortunately for apple, their business model in the 'consumer' markets is based on behind slightly behind the curve on chips, and this usually isn't a big deal when a jump in chip architecture only brings a 10% jump in performance, but in this case, it brought a huge leap in performance, a great value proposition for windows desktop users, not so great for apple who now have the problem of this brand new imac pro that would be the same speed as an 8th gen imac, if they brought out 8th gen imac's, or 8th gen mini's, or even 8th gen imac pro's, that would be giving customers what they want, but would decimate their 'pro' line except for people that need things like ecc memory, I have just built an 8700k hackintosh, had their been an 8 core imac, or a mini, i'd have bought it even at inflated apple prices, but, there wasn't

First of all, people buy MaccBook's because of the experience, not because of how good it looks. So your telling me that every blind/visually impaired person wants to buy a MacBook because it feels or looks good. The experience I get from using a MacBook is way different from past PC experiences. Second, Apple isn't the only company that makes mistakes. Third, their displays are just fine, just the way they are. Your not gonna get the same experience with any product. More iPhone's run the latest OS than any Android phone today.

The real Apple genius Steve Jobs must be rolling over in his grave... Apple fell a lot since Jobs passed away!

Gabriel Meneghetti Yes when he was alive they ware a few years ahead in technology but other companys like google who made android cached up and ran over them in many ways like cost and qualety it may not look as good but hey atleast its good

Jobs wasn't a technical Genius he was just a good salesman and motivator. He didn't just put up with things that "couldn't be fixed" he force people to fix them and improve then because he refuse to sell or release that stuff. I wouldn't say they're falling a lot when they just became the first trillion dollar US company.

I switched from 10 years of using android to my first ever iPhone and i regret every single second of it, damn thing didn’t even got a single decent file manager to change file formats!!! listening to music is just nightmare, if you save you music from apps like telegram or whatsapp you have no choice but using apps like documents 5 which means you can’t use the damn phones equalizer, and you know what’s worse? When you store them in documents 5 songs are everywhere and you can’t even get an actual sorted album!!!! my god i’m gonna change this garbage for an s21 ultra in a second!!!

@@minecameraPL it is possible steve did sit in his chair probably 24/7 and nobody else was allowed to sit in his chair I assume or didn't want to so you have an opportunity, if you would have put a highly radioactive or even not so high emitter (but it would need to be directed at a specific place or on contact to the chair so that others wouldn't be infected) in the chair after years of sitting in that chair someone could have developed a cancer that someone being steve the means, and money is almost always motive therefore a smoking gun :)

Love my Mac mini for music editing and the wired keyboard... that's about it. Had a newer magic 2 keyboard that stayed connected but stopped working, never had that before. Got mad and drilled holes on it with my Milwaukee drill, the drill is great and definitely feels a step up from cheaper drills for the price unlike the magic keyboard.

FACTS! And it's just sad🤦🏾♂️. I to am a preferred Mac OS user but had to build a custom PC a couple years back. I've been waiting and hoping for a refresh on the current Apple computers but... Nothing has happened. Valid points and valid argument unfortunately. Great vid
