Hi Derek, Thanks for your videos. Things you were talking about regarding addiction to poker and gambling in general resonated with me. I used to a regular poker player at the local casino and online. And I don’t believe I was a winning one too. I still remember coming home from the casino after a loosing session with only just enough money to buy some groceries and pay rent till next pay check. I was in the dump, feeling crushed. What helped me to stop was my girlfriend who was completely against gambling as her dad had a bad history of this addiction. I loved her too much to loose her over a stupid game. And after a few years of withdrawing myself from poker I don’t miss it at all. I have a lot more going on in my life that requires tons of attention. I have a baby girl (9m.o.) and my beautiful wife that saved me for who knows what future. I do occasionally get poker fever and urge to play but notice that it goes away pretty quickly. Last night I went to the casino to try playing cards and see whether I will feel same urge as in the past. To my surprise it brought back bad memories and I didn’t enjoy it at all. Poker is way behind now. Wish you all the best in your self-improvement journey and KZbin endeavour.👍🏻

Your a smart young man, thank you for helping all of us problem gamblers. I've been gambling since I was 18 years old. I quit in 2020 I'm 65 now. You can just imagine all the crap I've been through. Watching people like you has kept me sane. I watched a man win 35 million at horseshoe vegas in the late 80's playing craps. He gave it all back , yuuup it was insane. His name was Archie

Transparency diminishes the power of the urges. I haven’t gambled in over a year, but still miss it sometimes. So funny that you mentioned how self exclusion doesn’t work…. I have a misdemeanor on my record for violating the self exclusion and hitting a huge jackpot. You REALLY have to want to quit, and take steps to avoid triggers.❤thank you for sharing!

I don't struggle with gambling, but have suffered many other problems [self harm, pornography, caffeine, eating disorder, to name a few] and can say that the very fact that you posted this, is progress. The ability to shout about a relapse or near relapse is impressive, especially considering your channel talks about gambling.

I am 19 years old, I also have poker addiction. I haven't lost that much money but it decreases my life quality greatly. Even after good session I don't even feel good, I just want more. Hopefully I can stay strong so I can spend my twenties doing something reasonable.

New subscriber, I personally think its a shame you couldn't stick to your poker career, you obviously had the skill and talent to beat the game, Perhaps poor BR management and being lured by the other casino games was ultimately your downfall I have personally found poker to have a profound positive effect on myself, it teaches me to not be emotional and make poor decisions based on fear or greed, skills which can be transferred into real life, it's taught me how to effectively manage my money, its taught me alot about other people and their tendencies. There is a fine line between poker and gambling and if your not careful the two can merge. Peace.
