Jesse Plemons is one of the most expansive actors on television, the fact that he can go from playing a relentlessly apathetic killer in Breaking Bad, and if you understood this movie, he can switch to another character and play one of the most sympathetic characters on film. His two characters are two completely different people, in terms of feeling regret and love. In breaking bad, Todd has no regret and doesnt feel any love, while in this movie, jesse plemons plays a character that has regrets and feels love. That goes to show how good this guys acting is

As someone who just read the book - I think they're both great expressions of the story! I wouldn't say either is better than the other - however the book is overall a bit easier to understand in my opinion. I would recommend both for sure. The way the book ends left me with a different interpretation of what all really happened than the movie did

i analysed this film with my sister after watching it for a second time. it's so interesting after understanding the plot how things like the colour on her clothing changes, her hair goes from being up or down, or her hair colour changes. VERY SUBTLE, so so so interesting. the janitor couldnt remember exavtly who he was making up in his head so things just kept changing.

I'm going to currently watch the movie now, I already know the plot from a friend but I'm seeing so many comments about watching it twice or three times just amazed by it noticting mild subtle changes throughout. I'm so excited to watch it though! edit: im like 5 mins in and if you watch it with headphones on you could hear a very faint heartbeat or feel it like a vibration in your ears in the background (yes i tried pausing and it stopped then came back when it was on) edit 2: I forgot to edit this again after watching it. I understood literally nothing. 0% of the plot was registered into my brain and I'm pretty sure that I hallucinated like half the movie but it was still very interesting. 10/10 would recommend (not for the faint of heart)

And two, at certain points in the daydream, he behaves with childlike wonder and excitement because he misses childhood so much and is trying to repress the miserable old man he's become.

i just finished watching it and then reading up on it. i find it rather sad after understanding that - in truth - its all just about a fantasy made up in a lonely janitors head. It seems so eerie but only because the story is a jambled as his mind is. Not sure if you know the directors and authors explanation - if not, READ ABOUT IT AHHH - but i think its portrayed well and is something to watch back with the different perspective. However i hear the book is much better

The people that don’t like this movie, just didn’t understand it. But I don’t think that psychological thrillers should really be made into movies. Very few times do they actually hit. The people that like this movie understood it. I actually just finished reading the book. Basically the old janitor that kills himself at the end has multiple personalities. Jake. Steph or whatever the girls name is I think they changed it in the movie. The Dairy Queen girls. The parents are dead memories. So the whole time this is told from the perspective of somebody who has multiple personalities and is struggling with loneliness and suicidal ideation?

That’s why the house is so cold. Because it’s actually abandoned. Jake is a younger version of that old janitor. His girlfriend is actually a girl that he did meet once in his life a long time ago at a pub. He never ended up, giving her his number and he regretted it every single day of his life until he created a personality of her. there’s a theory that the Dairy Queen girls are actually girls that the old janitor raped. Everyone having a rash was actually just the old guy having a rash. He was losing hair and biting off his nails from his recent anxiety thinking of ending things. The idea of ending things was presented to us as the girlfriend wanting to break up with her boyfriend, but really the whole time what it actually meant was, the old janitor was thinking of killing himself, which she finally did at the end.

Read the book. That’s what it’s based off of. Book is phenomenal. I was wondering how they would place this in a movie. The trailer almost gives me A24 vibes, which I generally am not a fan of. Psychological thrillers are better in books. And I know it’s a cliché people say about books being better but they are in this case. some themes are not portrayed well on a screen. Though, everybody else reviewing this seems to really liked it. I have not seen the movie. I just finished reading the book.
