So this father has protected this son from bullies, stood by him, accepted him. And just because he is late with a key, no matter the time frame, there was no reason to mace your father who has been there for you for just being locked out the house. Actions have consequences and it's time children though "protected" needs accountability. Since respect is a two way thing why didn't the initial offender apologize first? For me, I side with the dad on this one, otherwise the child would feel entitled to just walk on his father. Sometimes we need to understand how difficult it is being a father. As much as I did not support his dad's action and expected him to show more maturity and acknowledge that he wants the relationship to be repaired, his son should take the greater part of the blame. On no occasion should you ever mace your dad. That is purely violent conduct, and I did not see him apologising for that action for once, and he showed no remorse either. If he had apologised for macing his dad, his dad would have been calmer. Also, I think Mr Karamo started with the wrong approach because the dad felt that he was on the side of his son; he could see the anger in his dad because of the fact that the son maced him; I felt the dad was still in shock that his son could mace him, so Karamo should have asked the son to apologise for that action first before any other intervention. I know he is a professional, but sometimes you have to leave what is in the book, feel the tension in the room, and find a practical strategy to resolve the issue. The dad refused to acknowledge that he wanted to repair the relationship because he felt Karamo was not appreciating his point of view, and his son showed no remorse for his actions.

My son tried to fight me when he was 17 and laid him down on the floor by his throat. I was so angry with him that I left my house with him and his mother for 5 days because if I saw him, I was really going to hurt him. I stayed with my brother because my son had school and other activities that I didn't want to disrupt. I thought about all the sacrifices I made to give him the best life, clothes and good education and this spoiled brat wanted to show his behind! I went back home after the 5 days and he apologized and cried. I forgave him but I told him if he ever did anything like that again to me as his father, I was going to prison. Ya'll are so one-dimensional, damn. Imagine if it was a mixed race child and their white father called them a nigger. I swear black folks will excuse everything in the name of "respecting elders". Everyone was young once and if lucky, everyone will be an elder one day. Age has nothing to do with it. There are several context clues that the father is a loser and terrible father. First, his attitude. (did you even watch the episode?) Second, the fact that his other kids do not speak to him. Third, the fact that he wants brownie points for doing what a father SHOULD do. I'm sick of parents thinking they deserve respect for the bare minimum. Notice how he put the focus on what HE went through when talking about his friends talking shit about his child. No, you're an adult, you're supposed to DEFEND your child and let them ignorant ass friends blow away in the wind. He didn't even mention what his own son must have been feeling to have grown ass men chime in about him.

People are saying Karamo was wrong, but he told him at the end "You gotta find a better way than anger". I am pretty sure he would have acknowledged the son's angry reaction about the father being late and his disrespect, if the session wasn't cut short - which is why he kept telling the dad that he'd get to his hurt next. Many parents do not want to listen for real, they think they can say/do anything and their child still have to give them respect, and this was one. If he'd worked through the process I am almost sure he would have gotten the apology that he obviously needed.

Karamo was about to get to holding the son accountable for his intoxication and macing but the father was too narcissistic and arrogant to let him get there. The parents have to model the respect first. The father is visiting at his adult sons apartment and his request was to be there when he gets home from a party. His frustration is valid because he’s a young man who was intoxicated and just wanted to have a safe place to sleep in his own place. Parents can’t be surprised when their kids act a certain way as adults. It’s a reflection of how adults treated them when they were younger and defenseless. Now that they are adults and can speak up for themselves all of a sudden “they are disrespectful”. Clearly, the son needs to manage his anger better and work on respect but so does the father. Sometimes you need to learn when to let someone go if they are unwilling to do the work. 6:10

Y’all, if you watch the show often enough, you will see how Karamo always gets to both sides. IF the father would have been able to trust the process, Karamo would’ve not only gotten the son to be vulnerable enough to admit that he is angry and still hasn’t healed from rejection, the next thing he would have been able to get him to acknowledge was that he owed the father an apology. He ALWAYS gets both sides to look at where they went wrong. Karamo is also very clear on how Black parents don’t play about respect. Although I do believe that the father loves his son, his ego would not let him wait on his “turn “ and I’m saddened by that fact because I do believe that he would have gotten his apology, and that would have allowed him to in turn be vulnerable enough to say his choice of words was wrong and meant to cut his son deep. This is my opinion and it comes from a place of love. 💚

Like maybe there was some contempt and previous issues from his dad and gf having to live with him, because why does it need to be said/emphasized to make sure Rafael's home so Teon can get into his home? He said there was some arguing in between-- I wonder if that was about their roommate situation. And really, I don't think that matters. If that was Rafael's house and Teon came home 40 minutes later laughing and kee-keeing like everything is fine, Rafael would've been pissed. Teon would've had NO right to then call his dad out his name. But, there are people in these comments placing all the blame on Teon, when his dad didn't stay aligned to Teon's boundary and simple ask, came up laughing in his face , and insulted Teon-- twice!! Rafael insulting his own son doesn't warrant respect in return. Everyone expects a child, even adult children, to forever respect our elders despite the abuses our elders do to us. It don't even make logical sense.

As long as you are giving them what they want, when they want it, they are happy. Then they love you. As soon as you don't,... Or you try to discipline them simply by telling them that what they are doing, or saying is wrong,... They become very upset, and talk very disrespectful. They flip the table on you, and say, "I don't care if you are my parent, aunt, or grandparent. If I feel like you're talking/treating me in a disrespectful manner. I'm going to disrespect you right back". 😳 Oh helllll no!! I was raised to honor my parents, my elders, or etc. So I do not accept, or condone, this type of treatment from young people. At one point I was helping my niece with her rent, and buying her food. Once she began acting this way I put an end to it. I love her. Yet, from a distance. With a smart mouth like that,... She needs to learn how to make her own way in life. I also love my oldest nephew from a distance. He also talks to me very badly at times. So he too, must make his own way. He asked me to help him with his rent, and I told him no, as well. He made a very disgusting comment about my not working during my treatments for breast cancer 3 years ago. He was aware that I have a mental illness diagnosis, and had an open SSDI case. Well, since he talks to much,... He's on his own. "Sometimes you gotta say "f" dem kids". 🤣 And stick by it. Until they completely change their ways. 💯

Karamo missed on this one. He kept forcing the word “rejection” when the boy was clearly telling him that’s not the case. The disrespect is what needed to be addressed here!

the son shouldn't have done that. if you disrespect your parents you got to deal with the consequence
