I Made a 1950's Outfit for my Baby Nephew!

Hello Darlings, sorry for the late upload but this week video is finally done!! I was away recently visiting family and decided to make a 1950's outfit for my little 4 month old nephew! I hope you enjoy watching this wholesome vintage sewing and baking video!

Here is the recipe for the spiced crumble cake!
In a large bowl, add:
3 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil or butter (I used macadamia oil)
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Whisk together until everything is combined.
In a small bowl mix dry ingredients:
2 cups plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (I used cinnamon too!)
Whisk dry ingredients then add to the wet mixture. Add 1/3 cup roughly chopped ginger (candied/ crystallised).
Pour into cake tin.
Cut figs or pears in half and press pieces into batter.
To make the crumble:
1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 TBSP brown sugar
2 TBSP white sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Whisk together and add 5 TBSP melted butter. Combine. Then add 1/2 cup roughly chopped walnuts (I used pistachios and pecans, you can easily swap it out for any nuts). Stir, then sprinkle crumble on-top of cake.
Bake in moderate oven for 50-60 minutes.

I love all your videos so much, they are so adorable! One note though on baking, if you wait until the cake is completely cooled it will set much better and have less of a gummy texture when you cut into it. The cake will crumble more and be lighter and airier if you wait!

The sewing box is beautiful! My Gran is going into a home so her house has been emptied out. I got her sewing basket, rolling pin, jam making spoon, dinner set, brooches and a few other little bits and pieces. They are so incredibly special. I will treasure them forever. Her sewing basket isn’t as fancy as your grandmother’s box, but it will take pride of place in my sewing room 😊 Your nephew is gorgeous 😁

The fact that the still too-big overalls looked like little bell bottoms on him is PRECIOUS! Also as a Canadian I never saw a Jack Russell terrier except for Wishbone on TV but when I lived in Australia they were everywhere!! I wonder why they are so widespread there? (Aside from being great family/farm dogs, the ones I knew were just fearless around the animals and equipment!)

Finally got around to watching this video. I'm still scrambling to get the housework done, laundry is piling up like you wouldn't believe, the dishes from the dishwasher need to be put away, the dirty dishes need to be put INTO the dishwasher, clothes need to be folded, bed covers need changing and yet I was determined to watch this video while I bf my infant and let my 2 year wreak havoc over our tiny apartment. Sage-There are 2 things that stand out in womens fashion from the 50s that I remember. My aunt had a garden wedding shower in which I remember all the attendees wore these beautiful floral print dresses that just flowed and were an explosion of color. It was almost breathtaking.The second is from a movie starring Gene Tierney called Leave Her To Heaven. She wore a floral print dress that In my opinion is the prettiest I have ever seen. As a man Trust me when I say men notice what women wear and appreciate your efforts to look your best.

I love the sewing box! Another fun wood vintage storage piece is a Priscilla sewing stand. I saw one in an antique store years ago and just had to have it! So pretty! The overalls turned out "sew" cute!
