Hey Jerome, please excuse me for only being able to answer your comment now. So the etching with Iron (III) chloride: (I will explain the etching of copper for an example) Iron (III) Chloride can easily oxidate copper, so this method is also use in art and industry. For the use in industry the most common example is etching conductive boards. The reaction with copper goes like this: Cu + 2 FeCl3 --> CuCl2 + 2 FeCl2 Iron (III) chloride is acidic: When Iron (III) chloride is dissolved in water the water molecules surround the iron. Unfortunately I can't post a picture here to show you how it looks. --> {Fe(H2O)6} 3+ . The chloride anions of course do the charge balancing. So the iron cation (Fe3+) attract the negative electrons of the water molecules, so the bound between the oxygen and hydrogen in the water molecule gets weakened. In the course of this even protons (H+) get separated. --> acidic The rest of the reaction is pretty simple and just a normal etching process of metals: Since we have a acidic solution, the Fe (III) Cl3 solution oxidates the copper (and aluminium or steal, whatever you want), meaning that they remove electrons from the copper. The electrons bind to the protons and build hydrogen molecules, which leave the solution (it bubbles). Copper ions get removed from the part that get's etched and are ''dissolved'' in the solution -- this is why we see the etching result. In my newest video I used this method on steel to make a plate for the arbor press I restored. I hope my explanation was good enough! If you have further questions don't hesitate to ask. Once again, sorry for answering this late! Thank you for your support!

@@DrHutOfHandcraft thanks a lot for your detailed answer 😊 Indeed, when you mention it, I recall the etching mechanism when etching conductive boards, that completely makes sense.

Dear sir. I just gotta say something. KZbin suggested your channel to me and i was glad it did. I love watching channels like yours where old things, or new, are brought to life! With your channel especially i find that i also learning!! Especially when i read through the description that you attach to the title and the commentary through out. There something just zen, relaxing about watching your channel. And here comes my complaint!!! 😅😊 Your cutting away to soon. Or ending the scenes to quickly. Like you don’t show how long it takes you to sand or file. As an example. It just feels your show a few seconds of each stage. I would like to see more basically is what i am saying if your videos were 10 min longer i would watch them all. Basically. Please make it longer. Long explanation sorry. Otherwise you have a new subscriber. Loving the channel.

what type is used for what purpose?
@DrHutOfHandcraft2 жыл бұрын
The wooden one can be used for chisels for example, without damaging the wooden handle of the chisel. The plastic ones serve the purpose of not harming the material (just like a regular plastic hammer). The steel one is just like a regular hammer you can buy. Brass, copper and aluminum are for example for reshaping of certain materials. For example if you would do reshaping of a aluminium sheet metal with a steel hammer you would damage it, because steel is harder than aluminium. The main purpose of having hammer heads with different materials is having different materials which have different hardnesses

What’s the price for one of those hammers
@DrHutOfHandcraft2 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate your comment, but it’s not for sale. A couple of people requested that, but because the material itself is quite expensive and of course there is also my working time it would be very expensive. I really don’t want to charge my viewers a ridiculously high price for a hammer. And of course I also have very limited free time in general because of work, university and youtube. I’m sorry 😕
@MyDirtydan2 жыл бұрын
Yoooo I'd totally buy one if you made it for me. The work I do I require 3 different hammers, from rubber, steel, and brass, to be able to change the heads would be cool instead of having 3 hammers in my box. I'm not joking by the way about buying one if you're interested.
