Tubes made a huge difference for 2 of my kids. The fluid was like glue it was so thick in one of my boys. Hopefully summer weather will clear it up! Always glad for the updates. Have a great weekend!

Joy! Sinus issues can be so tough. I've dealt with them my entire life. I had Flonase for years which didn't improve anything but I had tubes in my ears twice when I was young (now 35) and I am fine! Let the medical staff do their magic, your kid will be in good hands.

Hey Joy (&Austin) just wanted to let you know that I am an adult who has tubes and they are the best so if you are worried don't be...it is so much worse with all the sounds you hear with the fluid build up, not just muffled-for example I hear a tin noise, a humming and a ringing quite often and all at the same time. That's not the only sounds just the ones I can decipher. It gets very loud and uncomfortable when the tubes comes out so I always know when it's time to get them back in. And when I say loud I mean in your head but the outside noises become really hard to hear. Kids have a hard time explaining these things so I thought an adults experiences might be helpful for you.

I got 5 sets and have permanent hearing damage from scar tissue from them. My dd got 2 sets. Now a good ENT will tell you fluid is usually caused by food allergies usually dairy. I found that true for my dd as she got older. Also. Vaccinations do cause fluid and ear infections.

@@WhoDunnit346 they put them in at the regular office for adults (children gets them at the hospital) I am awake are aware and it only takes a couple minutes. it's not comfortable but not painful either but the relief you feel after is totally worth it.

Also, Gideon might have less fluid in his ears after swimming lessons are over too!! You could use a blow dryer on the cool setting to make sure they get dry, have him shake his head side to side really well, or chew gum, if he does well with gum. I know some kids don’t..lol Also, just a Benadryl before bed will help a lot, because the antihistamine dries out their ears. You could ask your Dr, but Benadryl is pretty harmless. My dog and my 96 year old Grandmother both take it, and my kids definitely did too over the stronger cold meds, I thought it worked better for cold symptoms other than cough, with no side effects other than drowsiness. Praying for your family, and Austin’s sweet Grandmother in Heaven. May she rest easy and dance with the angels.🙏🏼✨God Bless!!

I’ve done the same thing. I showed up for a drs appointment and it was a staff only day. No drs we’re even in the office. It’s ok. We’ve all done that. My son had chronic ear infections and had to have tubes . He was miserable and after the tubes he was so much better! You have the cutest family.❤️

Hi! Thanks for sharing these vlogs. In regard to Gideon’s ears, I know you will stay proactive but I wanted to share my history. I have a birth defect of misshapen ear canals and as a result had chronic ear infections as a child. My parents took me to the experts but 40 years ago no one thought to do a cat scan so the problem was not discovered until I was 23. Because of the shape of my canals water and wax do not drain as they should, creating an environment for infections to occur. I am still plagued by chronic ear infections. By the time we discovered the problem at 23 I had already lost a significant amount of hearing due to the infections creating an environment in which my ear bones (the hammer and drum) dissolved. They don’t even connect any more. I pick up almost all sound via my nerves at the back of my head. Most people hear at an average of 20 decibels, I don’t hear till 50 decibels. Like most children I adapted to the (unknown) disability and have managed quite well, but my hearing loss has had an affect. Stay vigilant and keep looking for a solution till you find one. I did not grow out of my problem. Blessings to you all!

Do you wear hearing aids? I'm a senior citizen. And a I now wear hearing aids. I think my hearing loss was caused by a Rx medication I took, which I didn't know at the time was ototoxic (can cause hearing loss). If you don't wear hearing aids & need them, if you live in the US, contact your state's Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (or whatever it may be called in your state). They may be able to help you get them especially if you need them for work.

Traditional hearing aids amplify the sound waves to make the ear bones move as the loss of hearing usually comes from the bones being more or less paralyzed. Because my bones are deteriorated they are not near enough to touch so hearing aids can’t help. A cochlear implant could because my nerves are fine but at this stage my hearing will not diminish further unless the nerves become damaged which is rare. I have adjusted to my level of hearing and can function fairly normally. Thank you!🙂

Joy, make up a big batch of waffles and pop them in a ziplock bag in the freezer. You can reheat them in the toaster for a couple of minutes and instant waffles without having to cook them every day. Your kids are adorable and I'm praying for a safe and healthy baby. 🙏✝️❤

My son, had tubes, put in, at 2 years old, over 30 years ago. He lost some hearing, from chronic ear infections. He stopped talking at 1 and had to learn, to talk again. The tubes were a life saver.

Fluid on in the ear is such a pain the clear up. My son had real problem with as a child. Something that his doctor told me to do is to have him try blowing up balloons. It helps drain the fluid. Might sure that the balloon hasn’t been stretched out where it’s easy for him to blow up. They need to be pretty new and a little hard to blow up. He had to do that 2-3 x a day. It really did help. So you might want to give it a try.

Good advice on the ears. Know that hearing/speech issues are a big driver and having one ear good gives you more time to wait on intervention. Hopefully the fluid clears on its own. Tubes are effective but kind of a pain for swimming - can’t get water in ears.

Gideon is so sweet! I watch him suck his thumb and it takes me back to when my daughter was little. She was sucking her thumb the first time I held her after she was born, and she was nearly 7 before she stopped on her own. We never pressured her about it, it just took care of itself. Gideon looked so sweet, sleeping with his thumb in his mouth! Isn't it wonderful that doctors can help prevent ear aches these days. Many years ago children did not have that help. Hopefully Gideon will not have to have tubes, but if he does, it will stop those ear infections he could get. Hugs for you and your family.

Try either a chiro adjustment on his ears OR look up lymphatic drainage for ears for things to encourage draining at home. You can use garlic drops in the ear for ear infections!

Tubes are good once or twice... I had them in my ears 5 times to no avail as a child. The scar tissue never fully healed back and I have a hole in both ear drums from them. Now that's worst case scenario of course. I can still hear well. Just not bass low tones. The thing that helped me most was nasal spray and allergy meds. So praying he doesn't need any surgery and that these interventions work well!!
