Hi friends, today I will show you how to make solar car at home. The car's top speed is 45km/h and it runs 50 km per single charge without solar panel and 65km with solar panel .
Here I used a 1000w 60v E bike conversion kit , 225w 12v Loom solar panel and 60v 32Ah li-ion battery. There are many upgradations needed for the car till now.

Good Job. Some suggestions from my end. You can use some more smaller panels of same voltage in all the available areas in parallel so that you maximise the amps for charging. Keep one extra battery separately for charging from the panels which can get charged while in the move. A 2 way switch can be used to change the batteries for charging and usage. If one battery is discharged by driving, Just change the switch to the other backup battery which was charged by the panel. Also the wind shield should come above the rear panel to reduce drag. Well done. Well thought and executed...

Few things I would change. I would find those light weight solar panels and use a bead roller to fix them on to sheet alummiuim. The bead roller will make thin sheets stronger and help reduce weight. I would also make it 4 wheels and use hub wheels for both sides. This will allow you to make a much wider car around 6 feet wide and 12 ish feet long. Making the roof flat will give you about enough space for 1kwh to 1.5kwh of solar on the roof. Amount will vary based on the size of the panels and you can adjust the widith wider to fit extra panels on and longer or shorter to fit panels. The project really comes down to how much panels and how light you can make the panel array. These frame less panels can be riveted on and holes cut out to bring wires inside the cab. Making the frame of the car much like you would find in a golf cart style with bench seats will allow you to have seating for 4 people or more and even some room for cargo. The type of frame is also good to add a very nice coil suspension. Setting up the panels on the roof to run in series would be best and an pwm charge controller. I do not think you would want an mppt charger because it require adjusteing for voltage and that would not work for on the move. The nose can be flat as you are not going to gain all that much from aerodynamics. Other than that there are several solar powered unit out there. Just search for them. From solar powered boats with no battery, cars, bikes and everything else. Even a solar powered plane.

The construction is great. I would recommend fenders and a canvas cover, like on the Velorex :). Photovoltaic is worse - the approx. 200Wp panel does not have the potential to charge the battery while driving even on a sunny day (the 7A in the hangar is nonsense). In addition, the direction changes while driving and the production is from diffused light rather than direct. In an ideal case, the panel could supply approx. 60-80W. The battery has a capacity greater than 200Ah and cannot be charged while in operation, nor does the panel visibly increase the range. Your car is a simple electric car, which is not helped by photovoltaics at all (do the calculation). I recommend removing the panel from the electric car, buying a 4-8 kWp solar array and placing it on the roof of your house. In one day, the battery will be fully charged and you can then use it in the electric car. It is good to have 2 batteries - 1 is charging, 2 is in the electric car. The whole video is more about building a simple car. Photovoltaic was added there only "decoratively", not to help practically.

@@user-eu1ih2cm4w There are similar competitions in Australia. It requires a horizontal solar panel with a larger area (360-400Wp). A light vehicle (most often made of duralumin or wood). Aerodynamic design. Bicycle wheels. Flat terrain and high Sun. The battery may have a smaller capacity - it charges quickly. Even in this case, most of the route can only be managed by the battery, which you charge at home before the race. The alternating current electric motor used has a very low consumption, which is equal in performance to a motor from a record player. It has to be downshifted to have some pulling power. After meeting these criteria, it is possible to compete in this category with a very light competitor. If the guy in the video is reasonable, after the demo he removed a panel from his car that shouldn't have been there in the first place (the design didn't account for this panel) and was only serving a decorative purpose for fun. The electric buggy apparently had a different purpose than solar propulsion.

@DL-kc8fc
@DL-kc8fc 10 ай бұрын
@@thegrantdanielsband Charging at home with photovoltaics is not dirty. On a car, photovoltaics do not charge the battery or increase the range - that is why there is no production of such cars. Charging from the mains does not solve anything, because the exhaust of an electric car is basically the chimney of a power plant. The division into dirty and clean energy is mainstream and the ideology of uneducated people. Every production of electricity is dirty in its own way (photovoltaic panel must be made with dirty technology).

I have changed batteries out in my solar lighting, and those individual batteries looked familiar to the ones I use. I wouldn't more the windshield up though because the solar panel will be more efficient with some cooling instead a roof scoop to direct some air under and otherwise smooth the flow over and around the panel might work really well. Could also reduce all that noise .

Better still, leave the solar panel at home, with a few more to beef up the output to a useful level, than have a battery charging at home, with another on the car. This car is simply too small to accommodate enough panels to make a difference, so the best improvement to the driving range would be to remove them altogether and thus eliminate the drag and weight associated with them.

Brilliant piece of Indian engineering. How long did it take you to make it? How much did the material and machinery come to?What was the final cost? How much would you sell it for? What is its speed? What is its autonomy? (Here I assume its consumption in power is less than the power provided by the panels which brings me to my next question. How much exposition to sunlight to replenish the batteries? Is there an alternative solution to charge up the batteries in the absence of sunlight? What is the lifespan of the batteries? What were your qualifications? Are you self taught? Your demonstration of its construction is delightful. If you had been wanting to start a factory building these I would invest in you. Unfortunately I am penniless. I do believe your simple vehicle has a future and could be sold worldwide especially in sunny countries and it would ber worthwhile crossing the nullabor in Australia without "refueling", even without batteries if it were possible. I believe wholeheartedly in your invention and its simplicity, even when it comes to access for repairs. I have just realised that you have answered some of my questions in your explanations.

That is very nice. I like the way you just fitted stuff and then welded it. However, there are some weak spots in your frame design. That diagonal rail stops mid way up a pillar. This will transfer stress to middle of that pillar which will tend to bend under load. You should have that rail meet up with the one coming from the front otherwise your frame will bend at that point if you hit a bump hard enough. You have similar issues with your shock absorber mountings. You need to bring a brace to the anchor point if you are joining it halfway along a frame member. Finally, you need to extend the windscreen above the solar panel to stop air getting under it causing excessive lift. If you put your hand into the slipstream as you are driving you will get an idea of the forces involved. But overall it is a very impressive build!
@TonyGrant.

Batteries get warm by themselves already and they don't need extra heat from the box. 2) Isn't it more comfortable to have the controls for lights and horn on the steering column? Now you have to bend forward to be able to use them while when they are placed on the steering column you can sit relaxed when using them. But as I wrote: a great job. Congratulations.

EVERYTHING should be white... You're going to leave this in the sun to charge, in India, and then sit on the black seats which will be 100°?? The black frame and metal floor will just transfer all the heat into the battery... This is how things catch fire... Add some heat sinks so the wind cools the battery at least.... Great concept, execution could be improved...

And one more suggestion is to add a hand break otherwise you cannot park it or even stop it in a inclined position

very nice build! What was your total budget for this, and how many hours did you spend on this? It's great to see these kinds of projects happening, and easy to see how this will translate into taxis/people movers. Can you imagine when this is cheap enough to leave around the streets and just pick one up like one does a shar

So many things to go wrong or be crooked, but it wasn’t. Nice job! The front edge of solar panel catches wind as you drive. Maybe place windshield “over” front edge of solar panel, so air goes “over” solar panel at front, instead of underneath…which tries to lift it up. I know, it’s hard to think of everything though 👍😊

That's right. People all over the world build your own designs. Don't allow car companies to keep you in a constant loop of concepts that they never have the courage to bring to life for the peoples enjoyment. Build your own vehicles, let's go.

Good job sir, nice design. Only one advise from me use a solar panel which has a max VOC of above 48 v and above and atleast 300 wats. It is your plan and design and please take it as a development opportunity. Very nice job and build.

Love your design , bar one possible flaw !! Aero dynamics , if your thought was ,to cool the panel You are trading that for less traction on rear wheel. And putting un needed stress on the panel, too as it acts as a wing So just extend ,windshield , to over lap , panel slightly , to correct
