Brilliant piece of Indian engineering. How long did it take you to make it? How much did the material and machinery come to?What was the final cost? How much would you sell it for? What is its speed? What is its autonomy? (Here I assume its consumption in power is less than the power provided by the panels which brings me to my next question. How much exposition to sunlight to replenish the batteries? Is there an alternative solution to charge up the batteries in the absence of sunlight? What is the lifespan of the batteries? What were your qualifications? Are you self taught? Your demonstration of its construction is delightful. If you had been wanting to start a factory building these I would invest in you. Unfortunately I am penniless. I do believe your simple vehicle has a future and could be sold worldwide especially in sunny countries and it would ber worthwhile crossing the nullabor in Australia without "refueling", even without batteries if it were possible. I have changed batteries out in my solar lighting, and those individual batteries looked familiar to the ones I use. I had a cheap casted aluminum steering wheel adapter that looked just like yours, and the threads that engage with the axle got damaged over time making me steering wheel come loose. It was a very scary situation as I was doing 60 MPH on a US highway. I had to quickly use my Leatherman crunch (vice grip) to grab the axle and I was able to steer to the side of the high way with my multi tool. Those cheap steering wheel hubs should be banned! Few things I would change. I would find those light weight solar panels and use a bead roller to fix them on to sheet alummiuim. The bead roller will make thin sheets stronger and help reduce weight. I would also make it 4 wheels and use hub wheels for both sides. This will allow you to make a much wider car around 6 feet wide and 12 ish feet long. Making the roof flat will give you about enough space for 1kwh to 1.5kwh of solar on the roof. Amount will vary based on the size of the panels and you can adjust the widith wider to fit extra panels on and longer or shorter to fit panels. The project really comes down to how much panels and how light you can make the panel array. These frame less panels can be riveted on and holes cut out to bring wires inside the cab. Making the frame of the car much like you would find in a golf cart style with bench seats will allow you to have seating for 4 people or more and even some room for cargo. The type of frame is also good to add a very nice coil suspension. Setting up the panels on the roof to run in series would be best and an pwm charge controller. I do not think you would want an mppt charger because it require adjusteing for voltage and that would not work for on the move. The nose can be flat as you are not going to gain all that much from aerodynamics. Other than that there are several solar powered unit out there. Just search for them. From solar powered boats with no battery, cars, bikes and everything else. Even a solar powered plane.

Very awesome . Like a few people have mentioned the placement of the solar panel is creating a lot of drag . I wouldn't more the windshield up though because the solar panel will be more efficient with some cooling instead a roof scoop to direct some air under and otherwise smooth the flow over and around the panel might work really well. Could also reduce all that noise .
@richardwickens2923 Жыл бұрын
The noise was from the follow car - it's not an indication of the noise in the electric vehicle - although I don't doubt that it is noisy.

Great job! I believe that if the windshield were to cover the front of the solar panel you would create less drag and increase the vehicle's speed.
@duncancremin1708 Жыл бұрын
Better still, leave the solar panel at home, with a few more to beef up the output to a useful level, than have a battery charging at home, with another on the car. This car is simply too small to accommodate enough panels to make a difference, so the best improvement to the driving range would be to remove them altogether and thus eliminate the drag and weight associated with them.

I would love to build a small electric cart for going around town, but would need much more solar input. A flexible panel could be wrapped around the front, the Hood, so to speak, and it would be more aerodynamic with that. THey are not as efficient as flat glass panels but it would add an extra 100 watts or so. And of course you could put more flat panels on the sides and get one in the sun in each direction you travel. You could also use solar panels in the doors as GULL WING doors and leave them up in the open position when you are not driving it. I believe you could double your solar by doing this maybe even get 500 watts. You have done a great job so far. That is a compact battery, so there is room for another. This prototype has all kinds of room for improvements when you get ready. Very good welding too, and I liked your idea of using a wire frame as a pattern.

This is what cars should look like. Just super scaled down, 'barren', and made for cities. You shouldn't go faster than 30-40 km/h (20-25 mph) because it's made for cities and literally just transporting 1-2 people, or 1 person and something as large as a TV (carriage) or dish washer. Sure, larger stuff exists, but >95% of trips within a city just don't require more transport capacity than the above examples. Grab a cab for the rest. You've saved soooooo much money on using something like this anyway.

Great job!!! I will add a reverse gear, carbon fiber body panels, & SEALING the interior from the wind/weather to reduce wind-noise. Oh yeah, I would add fenders too (nothing too extreme... bicycle or moped fenders would suffice, or carbon fiber ones at that!!!). I would add a much sharper nose/front end to slice the wind (& raise the total amount of distance you could potentially get from your battery pack... but, that's why THIS project is the first one/version... there's ALWAYS improvements to the initial design concept. I'm starting my home/small business project, which specializes in custom carbon fiber parts & one-off automotive accessories... much better quality than the mass-produced big business model catering ONLY to the recent vehicles in today's market. Hmmmm... you gotta winner there in the future of 3 Wheel electric vehicles.... something ANY person can drive IF there's a path forward in the license board of transportation!!!! Much like a moped or electric bicycle/scooter... yet, your design speaks LOUDLY to the masses. Hmmmm.... my wheel are turning.... STAY TUNED. MIC DROP 🎤.
