Those finished coasters are beautifully done. It looks like the process was serene too! I’d love to see you take on blackwork. There are a lot of similarities to sashiko-style stitching. I’ve had a go at both (and chicken scratch on gingham) on my own channel if you’d like to see a fumbling attempt at them! 😂 I like the dynamism of the green and yellow pattern with diagonal stitches. They remind me of pinwheels!

I'm beginner with Sashiko. Can you tell me at 5:42 mark you started from the corner and run the line in the middle diagonally and work outward. Why not start from corner and work it up to the opposite corner so not to cut the thread twice? I love all your video. Especially the one that you plan on paper to show how the stitch is starting and where it will end. But on this part I don't particular understand why start in the middle diagonally. Please explain. Thank you very much for all your sharing and teaching. ❤
@thegreenwrapper9 сағат бұрын
You don’t have to follow how I stitched😊 How you proceed stitching can be different depending on the person or project. I suppose I have the habit to stitch from the middle. We often stitch Sashiko on multiple layers of fabric, and stitching from the middle line helps secure the layers in position (like basting). In this video, I stitched on a single layer fabric, so it’s not necessary. If you want to work from the corner, I think that’s totally fine😊

Hi! I just recently started watching your channel. It’s fascinating to watch you stitch, and you produce beautiful, yet also useful, items. I love your coasters very much! Quick question - do you use any kind of batting in between the top layer and the back layer of fabric? Or are they just the two layers, and the stitching by themselves? Thanks for sharing!
@thegreenwrapper4 ай бұрын
Hi, welcome to my channel😊 I used some thin interfacing on the linen. The stitched fabric became pretty thick so I didn’t need to add on anything on that side. I usually use a thicker material for the back panel instead of adding some interfacing. I think it really depends on the material you use and the pattern you stitch on it. I don’t know enough about batting but I feel they may be too thick for a coaster.

These are so cute. I’m just starting and can’t get a hold of the Sashiko needle. But I’m happy to do it slowly. I did some washcloths with old tshirts and I found that it’s harder to use tshirts bc the weave is tight. How can I use tshirts that would make it easier. What fabric did you use for this project? Thanks in advance for your help. ❤
@thegreenwrapper3 ай бұрын
Hi! T-shirt materials (knit fabrics) are woven differently and, generally speaking, not easy to stitch by hand. I have an old video about making Zokins with old tshirts but I used a sewing machine. Here’s the video⬇️ kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6CpaGCmo9OGrtE I also talked a bit about choosing materials in my recent video⬇️ Stitching a Zokin without using knots - learn some useful tips for making a Sashiko Zokin! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mojOZYiJZaprl6M I’m also releasing a video about a sashiko style running stitch today (Friday) and I’m showing how I hold a needle in it😊
