Another great video - excellent progress! Well done. To your question Jack regarding what battery set up you should have in your car, I strongly recommend that you find out what all your weights are first, particularly the towable weight of your van when loaded for travel and then work out how much headroom you have in the car, especially the rear axle load which is the one most commonly exceeded! - I would hat to see you put in all the effort of the build and then be overweight in the car on the rear axle or overall

Currently travelling after leaving Perth in November last year. We have travelled across the Nullabor, through SA, Victoria before spending 8 weeks in Tassie. Left Tassie and now in Queensland. I put a 200Ah lithium in the canopy which is charged from the alternator and 240 Watts of solar on the roof. We also use a 140W folding panel to make sure the batteries in the car and van stay topped up. The battery in the car keeps a freezer powered. We also use it to run Starlink, occasional use of a coffee machine and a rice cooker and for charging of smaller batteries. While we could have gotten away with a 100Ah battery the 200Ah gives us peace of mind.

For 12v in the car I have a portable battery box. I've had fixed aux batteries in the past but I find the portable box so more versatile. Have a solar blanket and feed from one of the cars Anderson plugs. Mainly just run my 65L fridge/freezer. I use it a lot more than just in the car. And bonus, I set it up in my previous car and I still have for my current car.

Jack, I have 1 x "cheapish" VoltaX100ah lithium in a battery box in the back of my LC200 along with a 20A Renogy DC-DC charger bolted to the top and a separate Renogy solar controller that I can plug a solar blanket into if necessary. I only run a 40L Engel fridge & associated lighting. I have never had to connect the solar!! The DC-DC along with day to day driving does the job, but if camped up for a few days, the solar is there for a backup. My system is simple, cheap (for a lithium setup) & has worked perfectly for the last 2 years. Cheers, Dave

Hey guys, Another great video! My wife and I have been following you for a few years no...very inspiring. We're currently on our first trip around Australia, living full-time on the road (thanks for all the tips). She's still working full time, so we've got Starlink with us , which drains a lot of juice from the battery. I decided to go with a 200Ah lithium battery only because of the Starlink. I believe 200Ah is overkill for normal camping, however, with that said, I do use an induction cooker, electric kettle, and electric sandwich press all the time, which I couldn't do before, haha. To be honest, I don't even have to check the battery capacity since it has plenty of juice. So, my two cents...if you have the space, why not? I guarantee it will be one less thing for you to worry about. I truly believe that a good solar system is much more important than a big battery. Rigid panels are MUCH better than foldable ones. I currently have 270W on the roof plus another 300W foldable "Croc/Raptor Skin" (very expensive but the best portable option I could find on the market). I definitely overkilled with the solar panels, but since my wife is still working full time on the road, I'd rather have a great system just in case, as we don’t always get perfect sunlight conditions and she still have to be connectaded the whole day. Excited to see your next videos and what sort of decisions you guys make. All the best, Gab

Well Jack you did great This week with the vlog. I have in my rig which I'm about to swap over into my new rig is the 25a projector dcdc charger, to a kickass 120a AGM battery with a 160w solar on the roof and a mppt solar charger that's goes to the car battery at all times to charge car battery, I'll never have flat battery again. I split the solar power to both chargers. In my camper I have the 40a dcdc charger from itech world to 2x 100w agm batteries with a 200a solar blanket for that. Where I tap in the car silar aswell for extra. Not quite the amazing set up you have in the old girl there. You have both done an amazing job so far, love your work. Nice job on the suspension guys! I built a 150AH LFP battery for my 4wd. I run the Victron smart shunt and smart solar and smart dc2dc charger. It has done really well. I've found the 150AH to be fine in the 4wd running a 40L fridge and charging accessories. I hardly ever have to pull out the solar blanket as we are usually doing some driving every few days anyway. Looks like you're getting close to completing your project, its looking great.

For your car setup here's what I did: I did my lap of Aus with a 90 Ah lithium batt and a cheap fridge, a lil 500watt victron inverter to run all my camera gear and a few accessories, worked great. Runs fridge lights and inverter things for 2 nights without any solar or alternator before my isolators kick in. I have a fixed 120watt, 5ish Amp hrs. this keeps my fridge running allll the time in my car, won't drive for a week and as long as it's sunny ish I'm sweet. I have One redarc isolator that connects/disconnects crank battery to aux, and another victron smart isolator from aux batt to fuse box(all accessories). 2K I think 2 years ago, could do better nowadays tho!

In regards to your 12v I've now built a few different set ups for my self and plenty for others when I worked at TJM. I heavily recommend my last build which is make it fully portable so you can easily take it with you if you swap cars. Go 2x battery box's with hardkorr 135Ah battiers biggest you can fit in a battery box. Then make a portable DCDC charger and MPPT. Solar just link 3x portable solar blanket together when your at camp. No solar on the roof as you will always want to park your car in the shade. This system is modular and allows for change which we all do, also means if you run out of battery in the caravan you can plug an inverter into your battery box and charge up your caravan through the 240v 👍

Awesome work! As for your car 12v set up, 200ah is going to be more than enough for what you guys will be doing. It will even give you the ability to use an induction cooker from the car too. 200ah will with a 2000w inverter will allow you to run almost anything comfortably. Solar- fixed solar 180w-200w panel to your roof will pump enough charge in keeping everything running smoothly. You'll smash the 12v set up in the toyota Jack. After doing the van, you'll make light work of the car set up.

Troopy owner here. I'm running an enerdrive 200AH lithium and 40Amp DCDC and found this perfect for running fridge & charging camera batteries / laptop etc. The last trip we did from Vic to the Daintree I didn't run the inverter or have any solar input. We were on the road most days so the system got plenty of charge via the alternator. I run USB chargers for everything including the laptop as it doesn't make sense to go from 12VDC to 240V then back to 12VDC. 200AH is probably overkill but I'd rather have too much than too little. Fit the biggest DCDC you can as you can get bulk charge rapidly.

When the van is under trees i throw a 240v lead across to the van chuck 100ah in then let the panel charge the ecoflow up again. Why an all in 1? Run my fridge in car off it 24/7 cig plug, use usb chargers on it and built a switch over relay setup to switch from solar to car stepped up 48v 8 amp charger. Charges at 400w off car and has hit 415w from the panel, most time I see 300 odd watts from panel. Just be aware of all of the amps you are pulling, my van pulls another 42amps charging 700ah lithium. Cheers

200ah is a good backup for the cruiser however with the new rules bumps up the price of the install. Using dc to dc charger or just a duel battery solar charger that maintains the start battery as well. Have a look at another option being a vtoman jump power station using lipo4 batteries(more cycles and safer) for then it's a plug and play simple stand alone easy move not permanently fixed that also can jump start the cruiser. Folding flexible panels are crap that don't last! Solid folding panels are better but more bulky, Thin film flexible panels are light not bad performance for the price ok on lasting. Uni solar panels are the best but $$$$... if you can find them, that are bullet proof, flexible walkable. My uni panels 15ys and still work like new after Aus trip at the front of the camper with stone the lot hitting them totally fine.

Whatever you decide guys, just remember that the new 12 volt rules also apply to vehicles and if you are using lithium then you have to figure how to vent it externally, so you may have to face cutting holes in that beautiful crusier.

The new regulations stipulate that a lithium battery cannot be installed in a habitable living area, such as inside a caravan or camper trailer, unless it is placed in a sealed enclosure, or the installation location is sealed off from the habitable area and the sealed off area is vented to the exterior environment..”

Jack i highly recommend you go 200ah lithium with solar panel on roof then you can run fridge 24/7 in car plus charge up camera stuff

We have a 100AH lithium in the car with fixed solar panel. Runs the fridge constantly and drops about 10% overnight. Its back to 100% charge by 9am. You can never have too much power, but I think 200AH would be overkill!

That insta scaff'd be easier to move if u lift the bar running across 1 of the sets of wheels.. its the brake 😊 BTW, the vans lookin bang on..& u nailed it by ya lonesome mate. 🤙👊 don't worry bout the stoopid paint..on the undercarriage anyways

Hey mate after watching your lithium install in the van you inspired me to put a 300 amp hour with the 3000 Watt inverter Renogy system in our car I've gone that big for the same reason you mentioned places We don't want to take the van In our car setup we have the induction cook top and the ever cool draw fridge Pluss my other thoughts being if we ever get a run of bad weather and the van isn't keeping up with solar I could technically plug the van into the car running for a hour or so and charge up the batteries

Get an Offroad hitch for the van you will be glad you did when going into areas that are a bit more undulating for towing with a ball
