@@jesperwall839 You could even argue that it was originally done by the brits at the early stages of WW2 when they made their first semi-automated radar fire control systems for ships. They used a ranging radar and the director operator only had to point the director at a target plane to remotely aim the ship's anti-aircraft guns with automatic lead and drop compensation. Fully automated systems also existed for long range anti-air and of course the main and secondary battery guns. Optical systems like this only came around in the 70s like you said though.

@raph1515159 ай бұрын
you can look at paintball hoppers for inspiration. Some of them use magnetic transmission to avoid jams, when jamming, the "carousel" will jerk back because of the magnetic coupling, this will "unjam" the bb., anyway they have many design features that make them great, you can load tens of thousands without any jam. Some of them even maintain pressure in the loading tube which can improve the firing rate. Generally, the paintball guns would be a good choice for you project, some of them can be converted to .50 cal instead of .68, and you can find .50 bbs, even defensive ammo such as pepper or plaster. The software control they have is excellent, they can use an "eye" in the chamber to shoot as soon as the ball hit the firing position and it will prevent any ball "chopping", they use electronic firing switch, they can make the gun shoot in ramping mode (full auto maintained by pressing the trigger quick)
@bobhightower88229 ай бұрын
v4 being paintball sized would be awesome just the lower projectile speed that normally comes with it would hinder its "CWIS" capabilities
@raph1515159 ай бұрын
@@bobhightower8822 with a paintball gun you can launch a .50 hard ball to probably 400 or 500 fps, without any modification, it should reach 60 yards. You can get a longer barrel and tweak the software settings right in the UI to increase the dwell (solenoid duration of opening). If you need more you can tune the bottle hpr to higher pressure (I remember that good paintball bottle reg are tunable and can range from around 250psi to 800psi), moreover the paintball guns are designed to push way harder, they are rated around 14 joules, compare to the 1-2joules for the airsoft. What I like about the paintball guns is their manufacturing quality and reliability if you go high end, I don't mean that airsoft is weak, but the replica constraints and lower volume on one specific model make them less reliable and tough. The eclipse ego has a .50 cal conversion kit

Hey, if you have the compute to handle it, you could make the BB's reflective to IR light and walk the salvo onto target. More general than path prediction. Also, if you wanna analyze the path, you could probably fit ballistic or some spline + flat ends, that at least gets the sin component right (3d makes it more annoying but same idea). Nicely done! If you want to use it somewhere with more lights (or outdoors), consider putting narrow bandpass filters of the same wavelength as the LEDs over the image sensors to prevent false targets. I didn't see a mention of the wavelength you're using, but ~950nm is a good choice as little light from the sun gets through the atmosphere but it is still visible to silicon image sensors. You can also pulse the LEDs on alternate frames to detect and ignore very bright light sources that still make it through the bandpass filter. It will still target your glasses though ;)

I always wanted to see if this can be built. Thank you for exploring the idea. I am too poor to work on mine. 😅

finally an extreme supermaker. congratulations, really👍🏻 especially for the software. As a mechanic, all those gears create backlash. If I can give you some advice,. the clearpaths you used have a huge torque, connect the motors directly to the camera/barrel block, (I don't know how to describe it, have you ever seen how a playstation joystick stick is made? the analog stick mechanism), the clearpaths have an encoder which corrects the position in real time, so you will have 0 backlash.

20:36 I literally smiled almost laughing at how awesome that was. I'm glad I wasn't the only one! The amount of engineering and work put in here is just amazing!

FYI, the closer the target is to the gimbal, the more it must slew to try and hit the target so I'd say you did a pretty amazing job at the very short distance used. I would suggest trying this at a further distance, I bet it hits more darts.

V4 might be one you could field test once it's done (tbh the missile targeting accuracy is fitting enough for airsoft battles, main things this would need to work in the field, is a way to detect living targets (maybe use a thermal camera to work as a spotter) while these light cameras could actually be used for PID (allies wear a tag to keep it from shooting them)

imagine combining this with a headset and it'll shoot where ever you look as a target man this is the future of weapons... cant wait for v4

Amazing build, both appearance and engineering! love that. As for missing on moving target, it seems needing to aim in advance, calculating future collision point depending on target and projectile speed

This is some amazing engineering. I don't know what your PC setup looks like, but I would suggest looking into adding a Coral Mini PCIe Accelerator. Those things cost ~40 bucks and are ideal for object recognition. It could save a lot of processing power, and might even make it man portable.

very cool, you could train the model on every different target type and add a infra red camera as one of them, you could train the model to see guns and bullets or different airsoft pellets so it can shoot those out of the way, cool idea, i really love it

That is super-friggin-cool. With a bigger budget and access to millimeter-wave radar and/or other awesome-sauce sensors (probably high-quality IR sensors that you couple with the AESA radar & other available sensors for an amazing composite picture of what the target is doing specifically), you could probably make something to shoot down suicide drones and/or mortars. Then you upgrade the ammo to, let's say 5.56mm with tungsten penetrators so you can pierce the casing of the likely targets, and this thing would kick some serious ass defending people.

Love this. New project based on this. How about a camera stabilizer that locks onto a target (eyes) and does a locked on tracking stabilizer shot. This would be incredible for filmmakers.

I built a cool Nerf mounted defense turret that just used one camera years ago... SO cool to see how far we have come in just a few years.
@NetworkOverflow7 ай бұрын
okay fun idea: you use this system for stationary turrets on a paintball field. Players can purchase special rounds that have retro-reflective dust in the paint or something, so when you mark a target with them, they're not out, but they become a target for automated defenses lol
