Seems like the tree's with those fungas growing off of it might be bigger than 5 wide. Also seems to help if you drive forward just as you cut the tree to help it fall back. Though I think it might be a weight issue. Your clamps are too light, maybe use heavier blocks than the wire mesh.

How you could work with the old system: you add a tipping point above the saws, which also acts as a small ceiling and prevents stuff from going over the saws, and make the pushing mechanism as far up as possible without it missing the smallest trees. The problem with the previous mechanism was that there was no tipping point and you pushed the tree way too low (if it is tipping, only the lowest point of contact counts with your previous method)
@Lectrikfro
@Lectrikfro 3 жыл бұрын
I think if he added a ground level horizontal saw blade to actually cut the tree at the ground it would pivot against the front roller and then close the blades to skin the tree. His original design should have worked if he was cutting lower (maybe with some cactus added for extra grip)

The big trees may be getting stuck because they don't fall straight down all the time. Thus, since your build is made exactly 5 wide and the tree hitbox is exactly 5 wide, if the angle is offset slightly, it will technically be touching blocks. Also, you may be able to fix the sawblades rotation point collisions by using curved small pipes, although I'm not sure if the hitboxes are any different. If that doesn't work, you could put another controller to loop and move the saws back and forth.

Explanation (I think) for big tree inconsistency, _LiKe sO sCraPmAn CaN sEE_ I think the big trees have square collision boxes. So sometimes it's aligned perfectly, and sometimes the hitbox is ~45 degrees off, so the hitbox catches on the edges of the feed tray because the diagonals of the hitbox are more than 5 blocks. Welding it ensures the hitbox is correctly aligned. Also, idea: put a backboard behind the saws and have them move in and out on a loop, so you don't have to do it manually, and the trees can't be pushed passed them.

Couple improvements to this vehicle: A: Add another saw blade below the two front ones to destroy the stump and not the first stage of the tree, thus you won't have to go out of your seat to finish the leftovers. B: Make the back portion of the belt fold up, it'll look cool and you will take up less space on your raft base. C: Make the whole belt system stand-up and grab onto the tree itself and lower down afterward, then it should be basically bulletproof design.

Idea for ya...not sure if its doable but. Build a metal ring that clamps itself around a tree. On the ring would be 2 downward spinning saw blades, a couple wheels and a sensor at the top, facing the tree. The sensor triggers the blades, and the wheels feed the tree through the ring, where it gets refined. At the bottom of the ring would be the resource collector to collect the rods. So you clamp a ring on a tree and drive away, to come back to a resource container with wood in it:) clamp trees and pick up containers, that's it!

@ScrapMan Add the sawblades going in and out on a controller loop. So it's always doing it. Move the pistons on the inside of the Raising of cactus catching mechanism to the outside of it instead. Solves the big tree issue. You could add a sensor at the end near the saw blades that triggers 2 pistons pushing the end of the tree to the center. Making sure the trees are always centered for the saw blades. Further allowing the saw blade issue to be fixed. ;)

You should add two functional saws on the two front corners of your weaponized vehicle so that if a tree is in the way, you can just chop it down(this could be useful in really dense forests). I have a contraption in mind that might potentially trap the boss while also letting you transport it. I think that when a bot is ragdolled and is too far from where it was ragdolled, it will teleport back to the same position(like what we saw in the 33d episode). So, if we activate the bouncy floor for 10 seconds, then turn it off for a few seconds(enough for it to un-ragdoll), and keep that cycle repeating, we might be able to transport a boss.

i feel your pain ScrapMan, i built a tree logging machine too, completely different design but i came across all the same problems. So i kept adding new features which increased the lag, then i refine those features and optimized the build to reduce the lag, then came across new problems, so on and so forth. Mine also works great with Fir trees, i can actually process those all day long flawlessly but the little birch trees are annoying for me too and the huge ones are also a pain. It's really hard to build a "one size fits all" tree logger because there are so many different sizes and shapes of trees.

Scrap Man, I just notice your New Tree Logger look like an dragon, watch front view during night time; headlights are glowing eyes, saw blades are making sparks like a fire breathing and when refiners are picking pieces of wood the made an side ways normal breathing It's amazing!!!😲😲😲😲

Lessons learned from today's episode: #1 - Angling the front saws and going for the stump itself is more efficient for logging. #2 - The sides of saw blades aren't all that effective for refining wood. #3 - The grippers may work better if it encapsulates the tree. Try using rotating "fingers" on bearings attached to the mechanism.

you should add a set of "hooks" at the ends of the grippers so that you can basically lock a tree into position; it should fix the issue of the large trees falling out of the claws

i have a few suggestions for you. Yes tree's do come in 7 wide so maybe move your piston mounts for your main lifter. The top "grippers" might work better with a hook on the back. Just a rod on a bearing to help control the pull down. I think the same on the bottom would be a good idea also but have it on the driver side so that the tree trunk pivets over it in a more controlled manner. The bottom of the tree is super loose as your moving it which allows the length to twist up more so I think this might help with that. I would layer some sawblades at the front. I personally prefer a diff orientation than you have but with the current if you had another two blades that overlapped the blade mounting points of the next layer you won't get so many hook ups. If you place them lower you can use them to cut stumps as well. Ive had good results with putting sawblades on softish suspension as they bounce a little which seems to help keep the trunks moving but I had my blades in line with the trunk. You could add few retractable bars above the feeder to hold extra trees but I feel this might get a bit laggy/problematic.

Another design for the tree cutter might be not to try and hold the tree while felling it, but rather lift the saws up to the top and let them cut it while you, or the machine, slowly lowers the saws down -- at that point you just need to figure out how to refine the cut wood that has fallen on the ground.

The big trees probably have 5x5 hitboxes. When welded they are aligned perfectly and drop in, when not, aligned, they get stuck as you're putting a 5 wide block in a 5 wide hole - it needs to be straight to fit. Make it a bit wider and it'll drop right down.

If not the suspension thing I mentioned, I would suggest adding a second layer to your base and make a few piston-lifted platforms to put your vehicles in so that they are protected and easy to access. The pistons would come down from the top at the press of a switch and vice versa. it would take a bunch of wood and I thought I would save this idea for when you can get wood more efficiently. If that is too big of a project, I would like to see you drawbridge the other side of your base. Again, my suggestions may be bizarre or kinda dumb but it’s kinda who I am :P

The big tree was "levitating" because it was ever so slightly angled. The tree is EXACTLY 5 blocks wide. If you have an EXACTLY 5 block wide channel, the tree has to be perfectly aligned to fall into it. Make your channel 6 or 7 blocks wide and the large trees will fall right in.

my theory is that once the trees are cut, they 'grow' a new hitbox, one that's 5x5, not one that's 5x5, but with rounded corners. also, I'd like to see you build out towards the ocean, and give each vehicle a parking space at the back of the wooden platform.

If the logs have a square hit box, then when they are stuck they could be rotated 45 degrees making too wide to fit into the logger easily. Which would also explain why it fits when welded, as it resets it to the grid.

if you attach the blades to the part that rotates to grab the tree it could cut the tree from the root (not wasting any materials or requiring any manual labor) also i would make the whole base rotate too, so it can support the tree from the back at least.

30:00 Suggested fixed: Move grabber pistons out change saw blades 90 degrees and make them move up and down so you can get the base parts easier Add L brackets to grabbers so they stop the tree slipping out of the grasp. L brackets with rotors would be stronger than pistons to lift the grabber arms.

If you want to make a grabbing contraption that doesn’t crush big trees but grabs small trees, you could use suspension so that there would still be grabbing pressure. You can change the resistance on the suspension too so that you can grab effectively. I’m not well versed in this game (don’t have it) I just thought I should pitch an idea that would logically make sense and work

Have you considered welding both sets of grab arm together so instead of one piston push against the tree you have two pistons for the left and the right. might help with the flex and the bigger trees.

The big trees are 5x5 blocks wide, if they fall and spin at an angle the diagonal width of the 5x5 is actually closer to 6 blocks wide. That's why it was wanting to float

if you get a blade very close to the ground you can cut just the stump off(instead of the bottom log) so you don't have any clean up to do.

I think you need to widen it by a block to allow big trees into the sawmill. The big trees are catching on the pistons, so by widening it, you can better harvest the big trees.

For the connection points on the saw blade, you should move them to the outside, instead of the log facing side. Then you won't need the wedge block.

Chances are the hitboxes in the game are all voxelized, so if the tree falls at just the right rotation, it will be slightly wider than 5 voxels. Once you weld it, it is perfectly oriented / snapped to an axis so the 5 voxels fit in the 5 voxel wide hole.

place multiple blades parallel to each other which perpendicular to the belt. That might help with some speed and the problem with the some of the wood not being cut down

What scrapman needs to do is have the saw blades rotate with the grabber so that when the tree falls the tree doesn't just go through the blades like the small birch ones. Have it as one big mechanism that 1. Cuts the tree down and 2. Lowers it down to be processed.

I gave up on tree grappling and refining on my harvester. Way too damned heavy with the sliding friction physics. I now have 4 interlocking sawblades i can use upright and tilt into the ground to grind the fallen trees, I have 4 collectors on 2 pallets, and a trailer with my refinery on it. The pallets are supported on the back of my harvester via forks like a forklift. Fill em up, drop em off at the trailer i parked nearby, back up and pick up the empty pallet and go back to harvesting. Am now trying to figure out how to use a sensor to either automatically move the empty pallet that my refiner is done with or a sensor to detect my approach when i come back with the full pallets. The extreme weight friction physics is insanely frustrating, probably burnt more fuel trying to stay in place than actually driving. So I gave up. Cool thing is the saw blade tilt mechanism i can break off and install a drill grinder via welding because it only connects as 1 block to my harvester.
