Owning an old German performance car can be the best and the worst all at the same time. You get the feel and performance but your wallet ends up hating life and it's easy to get frustrated as you pile up thousands in repair bills. Getting a Mercedes or any German car fixed at the dealer or even an independent can be enough to have you give up and buy an LS-powered whatever so in this video, I show you how I fixed about my E55 AMG Wagon for about $1,200 or 80% less than a shop. It's now mechanically perfect and ready for some cosmetic mods so I hope you enjoy this series as much as I enjoy driving my E55 AMG Wagon.

Brilliant video again, I’m so envious of your garage, just purchased new discs and pads plus sensors for my E Class coupe as they have about 1000 miles left in them. I bought them from a Mercedes Benz dealership at a cost of £380.00 including VAT as I wanted original MB parts. The dealer wants £1050.00 to do the this work which is crazy and they are easy to do. I also followed your advice on the ATE lubricant for the pads, £5.25 on Amazon bargain lol 😆 looking forward to the next video keep up the good work.

On my r230. got the car for 1200. going to get new rims, o2 sensors, leather for the seats and a new android command system. I got it from the original owner with 30k of receipts. I took pictures of every thing I did. so the car has been restored to like new. I also painted the rear sub frame.

I'd take that over buying one that had all that work done. If I wanted to drive one today and never get my hands dirty, buy a sorted one. But for me, half the fun would be propping the laptop on a cart, turning on Alex's how-to videos and getting to work on the car. Garage time : driving time for me should be at least 50:50 in the early stages of ownership. Otherwise, it's kinda "too easy" if you know what I mean

@@Czechbound if you have the tools and a rack then you have a chance. it is a hell of a lot of work. I am a mercedes tech with all the specialty tools. the ABC hoses are not cheap either. dropping sub frames to change them is labor intensive. I got the car for a cheap price once the hoses started bursting. I am just going thru it all and restoring it. I figure I will have a very nice car for about 7k total with everything working like new. I may sell it and get the AMG55 version.

Hi great video's on your channel however I saw 1 mistake that a lot of people (also official garages!) make when changing the motor oil with the orientation of the oilfilter/housing like this. You need to open up and pull the oil filter first before you start draining the oil sump. If you don't do this in this order you will not drain the oil that was still in the oilfilterhousing (approx 1/2 liter) and that will end up in the sump you have already drained and plugged. In the end, firstl you will mix up that 1/2 liter old oil with the new oil, but secondly and more important, you will fill up too much if you fill up according specifications. Especially with these cars with no dipstick but just a read out on the dash this can be tricky. If this has been done f.e. 4 times like this you will end up with 2 liters more (4 x 0.5 ltrs) then there should be. Eventually you will have a warning on the dash that there is too much oil in the engine but damage can be done already....like f.e. pushed out/leaky crankshaft seals ;) Hope this make sense ;)

Nice work Alex. I really like how you set the example by wearing eye protection. I rarely see that by any other DIYer (or professional) on KZbin. I'm in love with your lift - what a difference that makes! Why don't you use a funnel though for pouring fluids?

That wagon deserves a Fluid Film undercoating when you're done de-rusting to protect it from Chicago harshness!

J A. Chainsaw oil works good as rust protection i have heard from alot of farmers at my work! I live in Norway where the goverment uses obscene amounts of salt(seems more like acid when you look under our cars🤪)

Used oil sprayed underneath can work wonders.

Most under coats are worthless. The salt acts as a grit and wears away the undercoat any way.

@@LJ-fe8vb not really. Most undercoats hurt gas mileage, makes you slower and doesnt last long enough for the price to be worth it. I looked it up and did research. Most undercoats need to be replaced/redone every three years. Thats way too much money and not enough time for something thats supposed to protect your car. I agree spraying it down with some type of oil will prevent some rusting due to atmosphere based rusting like if you lived near an ocean for example. But salt related to snow is too abrasive for undercoats to do much good. But go ahead and get it yourself. There's a whole industry based around it.

Just a little tip to filling those engines. It’s a lot easier to fill through the oil filter housing.
