I was genuinely waiting for Mikaila to react because I cried the entire 2 episodes and I loved the fact that they put more background on Sally Jackson because as a kid I never knew much about her other than she is a single mom who was trying her best to give a normal life to Percy and can't wait for what happens to her in the relationship part because ik something from the series. I was very happy with how the series ended with Gabe just being noisy and not some abusive a-hole.

I personally feel like the Gabe freeze was better than the book. First of, Sally doesn't become a murderer. Second, even tho she doesnt kill Gabe, she still fights back, because she files for divorce! It's a much healthier response IMO, but Sally still stays as our lovely badass.

@@toonnddaamy only problem with it is that it feels undeserved. Like yeah Gabe is a jerk, but I don’t feel like it’s fair that this Gabe dies for it. It not being intentional means it’s not a flaw with one of the characters, though it still feels like a narrative overreaction.

Lots of great lines in this show! ARES: So, [Zeus killing Kronos] set the tone right out of the gate. PERCY: Would it be unprofessional to just stay [at the Lotus Casino] for a bit? HERMES: It is hard for a god to feel powerless. PERCY: _[To Charon]_ You could buy a new whistle? PERCY: Hold fast, Mom. ZEUS: So, when I say 'You may go', it means be grateful, and it means be gone. PERCY: Stop saying 'we'. LUKE: It's the word Zeus fears the most. PERCY: _[Regarding the ocean]_ I know some people in management out there, if you ever need some help. The part where Percy mentioned Hermes to Luke and he immediately attacked was so powerful. He didn't want to attack Percy but in that moment he was so blinded by rage that he was automatically on the offensive. You could just feel his angst, and that was just perfect acting by both of them. You can see the signs of how Kronos might have used that to manipulate him!

I agree, series Luke is so well written compared to the Luke in the Movies, where he seems to have a master plan and straight intention, wich can not be changed by Percy, no matter what (thats because of the Autors acting, imo). True but : 1. Luke leaving Percy almost dead give him much more weight as an antagonist : it makes him scarry. He feels like a real threat at the end of the book. 2. I think it is a symptom of how the show is way more lets say gentle and it is part why (imo) it lacks tension. Take the Procustes scene. Before that Percy scares of a gang but his sword pass threw them so the run into "Crusty" shop. Then Annabeth and Grover get almost torn apart and so Percy slays him with his sword knowing it just slay monsters so he doesn't feel bad about Crusty looking human. And then it pays off when Luke shows his two edge sword wich can kill mortals and monster. (Btw I am not going to elaborate how his swords making portals instead is going to be the biggest plothole ever, I am saving that rent for next episode).

Fr show Hades seems really approachable at first, but at the same time he's also a threat. Him offering them food is both kind and also a way to make them get stuck there forever. He doesn't like "family drama", but sent 3 furies to kill Thalia, Luke and Annabeth (though I must say, looking back at what Zeus did to him in the past, he's justified. But for a show only audience, why would such a "nice god" do something like that to kids who weren't so different from Percy and his friends?

I think the reason why the series is different from the books in a lot of areas is a) Uncle Rick might be changing things he wished he made in the original story to add more depth and characterization to the story and b) to excite people who have already been fans of the series. I think the best example of what Rick wished he wrote instead is Annabeth’s casting. Even as a kid I rolled my eyes so hard every time her “struggle” being underestimated as a blonde girl was brought up. Everyone in the fandom knew it was overdone for the plot but went with it because having people constantly underestimate the smart character makes for a great story. Bringing in a black actress put a realistic and meaningful spin on the “I’m always underestimated because of how I look” trope Annabeth had, and it gives them so much more to explore with that aspect of Annabeth’s character (WITHOUT annoying the audience by being trite). Plus Leah is an AMAZING actress. Absolutely nailed her role as Annabeth

Thank you! You're right. Of course when he was writing 20 years ago, he doesn't have the full picture of it. Now, he knows where the story is going so he can make things more cohesive and add nuance to the characters in the right places. i think the timing of when they find the bolt was an extremely smart change! it keeps non-book viewers from dwelling too long on the shoes dragging grover, instead immediately diverting their attention to what seems to be a more pressing/shocking reveal! many adult viewers may suspect luke after the shoes (or even before then), but younger audiences likely won’t, and the bolt is the perfect distraction.

@Nargon46
@Nargon46 4 ай бұрын
Agreed. I loved the high emotion in the book but (And here I'm just gonna copy and paste my own comment because it took a long time to write lol), It makes more sense for him to want Percy to come with him, rather than the assassination attempt it was in the book. Percy already stopped the war, there isn't any reason for him to die other than spite for ruining their plans. And presumably (as is implied by the last dream), Kronos is aware of the Great Prophecy and the need for a child of the Big Three to survive to Sixteen, they would want Percy as an ally either way, if possible. And Luke I think genuinely cares for Percy in the show. They way he trains him and mentors him, their relationship feels more genuine and makes the betrayal hurt all the more when you see that Percy in the show really sees him as an older brother, just like Annabeth, and Luke sees him as a kindred spirit. At the start of the show, they are both feeling spurned by the gods, Percy was angry and pretty bitter, and Luke knew it. Dollars-to-donuts Kronos promised Luke that Percy would be unharmed when the shoes brought him and the Bolt down to Tartarus. At the end, Luke doesn't know how much Percy has been through, having been saved by his dad, released by Hephaestus, and spoken to Hermes and realized how much some of the gods really do care and are genuinely constrained from helping their kids, no matter how much they want to. Luke assumes that Percy would still be on his side, when Percy has gone through a character arc and changed his mind for the most part about the gods, and Percy doesn't realize just how deep the hurt with Luke actually goes. Book Percy was pretty much ready to be done with Luke after the betrayal, I think Show Percy is gonna have more conflicting feelings. Loyalty beyond a fault is Percy's fatal flaw after all, something they aptly demonstrated during their fight when Percy stops when he thinks he's hurt Luke. And actually, I think we may see Luke have a little more inner conflict with regards to Percy than we had in the book. Book Luke never really cared about Percy, Show Luke clearly does. He had ample time to strike the killing blow in the woods and he didn't. So that will be cool to potentially see! It's interesting how we got Luke's motivation with regards to his mom and dad, but no mention of his scar or how he blames the gods for letting Thalia die, when it was opposite in the books. I hope that means in Season 2, maybe in their next confrontation on the Princess Andromeda, that we get the rest of his backstory and motivation.

One bit that I loved from each episode, here goes. It's established in the series that the more valuable a sacrifice personally is to you, the more the god that you're praying to will pay attention to you. Sally when she called Poseidon, dropped a gas station match into a finished sundae and Poseidon spited Zeus (you can tell he was PISSED because his arrival was announced by thunder and then rain) and came immedeately. That's some serious love. Also Zeus sent a thunderclap after Sally asked Poseidon if he wanted to talk to percy. Second, the first time Percy ever really saw his Dad face to face, it was after he was saved by him from getting smited by the KING OF THE GODS HIMSELF, and he yielded the war with Zeus, again immedeately, to help his son. He gave Zeus the petty W and brought up Thalia in praise to appeal to Zeus' vanity and to convince him to spare him. Lastly, you couldn't have cast any of the gods better. Given that in this universe the gods take forms based on the champion of Western civilization at any time (part of why there are roman halves of themselves and why they look like they do in the books), Poseidon looks and sounds the part; he nails the Jimmy Buffet/Sig Hansen mashup you'd expect from the god of the seas, Ares nails the mashup of american veterans from WWII to Afghanistan Hephaestus looks like the stereotypical scientist but with some doc brown thrown in, Hermes looking like joe baseball the taxi man Hades (I.E. "The homely one" and "the wealthy one") looks like an awkward, rich, laid back billionaire who likes making people feel at home. and you couldn't have cast Zeus better. He's championing a nation which just had a black president and where most of the big pop culture and music icons of recent years have been black, but even better, Lance Reddick (Zeus' Actor, rest in peace) was Charon, concierge of the Manhattan hotel in John Wick, which also makes sense for his character because Olympus is the biggest hotel room possible on the 600th floor of the Empire State Building; you gotta have the best for the job after all.

I actually really like the idea in the show of Poseidon 'surrendering' to basically to illustrate that warfare between the gods is largely a matter of pride (for them anyway) rather than power, since the status quo usually stays the same. No land has been lost or won, no shift of power has been made. By swallowing his pride (no easy feat for a god, especially one of the Big Three), and submitting to Zeus to save his son, Poseidon basically fought, lost, and ended the war without any casualties. And I agree with you, Poseidon kinda has to be very likeable. If all of the gods were like Zeus, high and mighty and unconcerned with mortal affairs, then it wouldn't make sense for Percy to be on their side. I've said this before but I love episode 4 the most because we spend the episode hearing Annabeth talk about how you need to show your godly parent respect and honor them if you want their attention or help, and that feeling of having to measure up to be worthy of her mother's love is confirmed when Athena basically lets a monster into her own temple to let her daughter die just for second-hand unintentionally dissing her. Percy had spent the series up to that point badmouthing and disrespecting his dad, so it makes sense for him to assume Poseidon would NOT heal him from the poison, which is why he stays behind. Having Percy fall and get saved by his dad reaching into the SKY, his brother's domain, to save him, even after breaking all the "rules," Mm, it's just so good. And I adore how they continued to illustrate this by having Poseidon show up instantly when Sally made a burnt offering of a mostly eaten sundae that wasn't even hers, just so she had someone to talk to. They really made Poseidon Dad Goals in this show. That scene with the two of them on Mount Olympus, where Percy is just looking at him and drinking in every second, they facial acting with both of them is just. Ugh. Tears.

3:09 I literally had to rewind this scene then walk around my room after because of the way he shouted her name. 😩 Gave me a glimpse of how he will desperately try to save Annabeth in Titan's Curse and at the end of Mark of Athena. Also, how he will deliver the "Don't touch her" line in Last Olympian. I'm not gonna survive it. Walker, the actor that you are. 9:02 I honestly think making this short is necessary because the fight had to be quick in order to be believable. Drag it any longer and Ares would realistically be able to kill him in a snap. Percy was able to draw first blood only because Ared toyed with him first instead on going for the kill. They're not evenly matched to go to-to-toe for more than 5 minutes. And the betrayal scene. To me, it's perfection and I prefer this version more than the books. The way they added layers to their dynamic becausr now, Percy won't just straight up hate him, he actually understands where he's coming from. Both he and Annabeth will both be conflicted with their feelings about Luke now. Also, I love how they incorporated their fatal flaw in this scene (though they've been bringing it to the front since episode 4). Percy apologizing when he slashed Luke because he still sees him as a friend (personal loyalty) and Luke lashing out to him when he mentioned Hermes (excessive wrath to the gods). I love it.

100% agreed about the fight. In a long fight I have zero faith that you can tell the story where Percy wins. At some point Ares stops screwing around and the fight just ends on the spot. But in a short fight where Percy blindsides him once and then wins immediately? Yeah, that's believable.

One thing that this show cemented in my mind is that if the Gods treated Sally the way they treated May Castellan then Percy undoubtedly would’ve done everything in his power to tear down the gods just like Luke. Also with Percy now being blonde and Luke being brunette really shows their parallels.

I grew up with Percy Jackson and like you I enjoyed the changes. The show hit all the important elements while making the story more cohesive. When the Lightening Thief was first written Rick might have had an outline for the future books but hadn't written them yet and as such didn't set up The Last Olympian as well as it could have been. TLO personally to me felt like it had a lot on info dumping in it for the last book. I felt like the show took care of that problem, and knowing more about Luke's background will make him more sympathetic and dynamic moving forward. Also, the changes just made things exciting for me! I knew what was going to happen, but at the same time I didn't. I know some people have compared the show to a fanfiction and I would agree, it felt like one of those fantastic fanfics that was written just as well as the book and will stay in your favorites folder forever.

I started reading The Lightning Thief when I was 6 years old, and I’m 20 now, and even with 14 years under my belt as a member of this fandom, I wasn’t precious about the changes for a second. There might be a few things I can nitpick, but on the whole, the show expanded the world of Percy Jackson in a way I never expected and was absolutely ecstatic to experience in real time. When (not if, everyone it’s time to manifest) season 2 comes out, I will be jumping for frickin joy just to experience it all anew. And also, that scene between Percy and Poseidon will live rent free in my head until s2 comes out, i’ve already replayed it a bajillion times

Things I loved about episode 7: *1)* Though I liked the scene with Procrustes in the book, Novel!Percy did recognise and trick him there, so it feels in keeping for the Show!Percy to rock up and go "I know who you are, I know your shtick, no fooling me." He's caught on that every suspicious adult turns out to be a werewolf or something. *2)* Annabeth shoving Procrustes onto a bed feels like a more plausible solution than him being talked into sitting on one himself. _(As I've said before, I love how the show follows the same plot points as the book, but reaches and tackles them in different ways. I wonder how much of that is changing things for variety's sake, and how much is Riordan looking back on his works and thinking "I could have done this in a different way." Certainly, Percy's jump/fall into the sea would be the prime example.)_ *2)* "You're lucky we're letting you keep your head," which references both the trio's defeat of Medusa and Procrustes' fate in the book. *3)* Grover being given a stress ball, and it that ends up being Cerberus' toy. Even though Novel!Annabeth was probably expecting Cerberus, it felt weird that she just pulled a dog toy out of nowhere. *4)* Percy's dialogue whilst pushing past the dead people. *5)* Percy bringing back the "Hey, we're all dying" attitude from when Annabeth told him about the Fates. _(I did miss Charon's "Die and come back" line from the film.)_ *6)* "You could buy a new whistle?" *7)* Grover being 'eaten' by Cerberus felt like no more than a cheap death fake-out, but having that be the reason the trio only have three pearls was excellent. _(Does this mean Cerberus will end up in the mortal world when he shits it out?)_ *8)* The forest of regretful souls was haunting imagery, and an aspect of the Ancient Greek afterlife I don't remember the book covering. It was genuinely haunting, and I enjoy learning more! *9)* I liked the beat of Percy and Grover both spluttering "Yeah, that's totally the Master Bolt, gotta be, what else could something that looks like that possibly be?" *10)* I was surprised that Hades didn't look like he did in the book - I recall Percy thinking He was the first god Percy had met that actually looked godly - but whenever Hades is brought up on the internet, someone chimes in that Hades was probably the chillest and most reasonable of the Pantheon, so him greeting Percy and Grover in a dressing gown and offering Percy sanctuary feels right too. *11)* Percy deducing that Kronos was the Big Bad all along. He does so in the book as well, but not until he meets Poseidon. *12)* "Hold fast, Mom." Am I misremembering, or is that the line she attributed to Perseus? And now he's saying it to her? My heart... *13)* Sally summoning Poseidon. I don't know if dropping a matchstick into a drink is an Ancient Greek thing, or a play on one, or just a odd signal the two of them agreed on years prior, but I like the idea that there's some tie between them, like with her sitting in the rain in Episode 1. Things I loved about episode 8: *1)* Percy slamming Ares into the sand with a wave. *2)* Ares' true form wasn't revealed. *3)* Another scene with Alecto, and her wishing Percy good luck (even if it was probably a bit sarcastic). *4)* Grover floating the idea of sending an informative email. *5)* Olympus looks beautiful and grand, but also empty and a bit sad, which fits with the series' motif of divine imperfection. *6)* Luke's metaphor about being small and scary. It's a good lesson, the scene foreshadows his betrayal, and it adds more to Annabeth through her spider aversion. I hope the show explains why that started, because I thought it was one of the book's most interesting details. *7)* Lance Reddick as Zeus. Although I can't really picture Reddick doing the absurd/vile things Zeus has done, he certainly has a voice befitting a god, and it's lovely to hear it one more time. The fact that Reddick is meant be dead, but he's back on our screens once more, really (unintentionally) adds to the ethereal nature of his godly character here. *8)* "So, when I say 'You may go', it means be grateful, and it means be gone." *9)* As much as we were all curious and cautious about the deadline expiring in this adaptation, Poseidon stepping in to save Percy by surrendering, ending the conflict, feels like the best way for them to meet. *10)* Percy calling his father "sir". I gather that's commonplace in America, but to my English mind, it implies formality. So, I'm not sure if Percy was trying to address Poseidon as a father, or as a figure of authority he has little attachment to. Like the book, the show has done a good job of walking the line on whether Percy wants Poseidon's attention and respect - I don't think even Percy himself has decided yet. *11)* Percy telling Poseidon that his mother taught him Ancient Greek. It felt weird for Poseidon to assume it was Chiron - not because I can't see Chiron doing that, but because he barely did anything in _The Lightning Thief._ Sally Jackson is gone by episode 1, so the show needed to explore her and Percy's bond for us to care. Percy talking of her, having a flashback about her, and knowing Ancient Greek lore because of her built her up into someone we want saved, better than the book did. I like seeing Percy's committment to saving his mother, and especially him telling people how important she is to him. "I don't care if she's a muggle, she's my mum and I love her!" *12)* Percy asking Poseidon whether He dreams about Sally. I was totally expecting something like "Every time I've fallen asleep", but having Him just hold Percy's cheek and then send him away is more impactful. Is it too painful to discuss? Does He never, and He's ashamed of that? Is He trying to comfort Percy? Why did He send Percy away? Like I said earlier about fatherly approval, the show works hard to keep the gods' humanity ambiguous. You could interpret Poseidon's actions in this scene several ways. *13)* Percy doesn't looks entirely happy when he returns to Camp Half-Blood. He's probably quite tired after walking up Olympus and waking back to the camp, he just met his father and he's not sure how it went, he doesn't know when he'll see his mother again, and he's thinking about the Oracle's words. The other children clap, and he looks around like "Oh, yeah, I saved the day. Whatever, man, got bigger things on my mind." He doesn't relax until Annabeth hugs him, and even then he's on edge again because he sees Clarisse. *14)* When Percy figures out that Luke stole the Master Bolt, the light from the lantern and the boom of fireworks in the background, mistakable for explosions or cannon fire, really add to the tension of the moment. *15)* "Stop saying 'we'." "It's the word Zeus fears the most." *16)* The fireworks in the background as Luke and Percy battle. Again, they sound like a greater battle, but it also gives the fight lots of colour. *17)* Percy hoping that Luke is just under Kronos' sway, and apologising once he actually cuts him. *18)* Annabeth following Luke and Percy and listening in. The show has been more thoughtful in its use of the hat than the book. *19)* Luke's hesitation to attack Annabeth, both because he cares about her and because she was said in an earlier episode to be one of the camp's best fighters. *20)* "I know some people in management out there, if you ever need some help." *21)* Percy finding Sally at the beach house. It's the last place he got some normalcy with her, it's a place that means a lot to them, and it means their parade isn't rained on by Gabe being horrible. It made me cry, and that's how you know the relationship worked well in this adaptation. *22)* Nevermind, it was a dream, but I still like Percy being frustrated and telling Kronos to go away now that he's won. *23)* Although Kronos is closer to Percy than He was in any of the previous dreams, much like a vampire, He doesn't enters the beach house. It's a place with only good connotations, where He isn't welcome. *24)* Percy jokingly calling Kronos 'Grandpa', and Sally wanting to take down everything Kronos says in Percy's dreams, in case it's useful. *25)* Blue pancakes. *26)* They re-did my mum's favourite post-credits scene of all time! For the take on Gabe created here, it feels uncomfortably disproportionate, but as neither Percy or Sally did that to him, it could have just been a ploy of the gods that went wrong.

Thank you so much for doing these reactions! You are so eloquent and good at articulating why I love this show so much. I've been reading these books since I was 11 and I'm so glad there's finally another adaptation (can't forget the Broadway musical 😁) that does the source material justice. It's honestly disheartening to see some fans on the internet who can't look past the fact that some characters don't look like they "should" or gripe over the minor changes that they're making to the plot. I agree that the show isn't perfect and it has its flaws because nothing is ever perfect and that's okay! But this show should be allowed the chance to grow and improve, and more importantly surprise us and expand on the material that we have. Because they are 100% recreating the spirit of the books and that is the most important thing Also, I love the Aang scroll behind you! 🍃❤

The show improved the story of the book so much that I felt like crying. In the books, Luke is probably the worst written character I've ever seen. He begins his villain career by trying to kill a child and talking about how great it is that the West will die. The show made him sympathetic for the beginning, and that will make his arc going forwards much better. Plus, he and Percy were actually friends this time. In the book they talked three times and that was that. Props to Luke's actor too. Boy absolutely killed the role. Can't wait to see more of him.

@scarletowl4556 4 ай бұрын
@@wildbard4112 Feel free to elaborate. I say he's poorly written because he's completely inconsistent, and it's clear Riordan improvised everything about him. In books 1 and 2, he behaves like a comic book villain, even telling one of his men to eat Annabeth while Percy watches. Then in book 3, suddenly he cares about her. His dynamic with Annabeth is also all over the place. First she had a crush on him, then she saw him as a brother, then in Heroes of Olympus she says he was her first love. Not to mention that Riordan put all of Luke's backstory into The Last Olympian. He was awful in the books. Horribly written. The show is fixing all of this. Luke is sympathetic from the beginning, and he is firmly portrayed as an older brother for Annabeth. There was no hint of a crush, they're just family. We are also getting more hints about his past. The show improved him massively.

@@scarletowl4556 Yeah I guess he did say that. However he's not poorly written though. We are given his motivation and throughout the books we see how he was kind of right. Right as in the gods are jerks. He is sympathetic off the bat but the show executes it better. His dynamic with Annabeth isn't all over the place. She was his first crush then she realized he was an older brother to her. That part in Heroes of Olympus was her reflecting on her love life, it doesn't necessarily mean she loved him romantically.

The last episode scene of Poseidon and Percy was so well down. That awkwardness and anticipation, it is truly well done and totally sold by the two actors. There are few changes, I am not fan of but the Luke reveal here was more well handled. Percy would have looked a little stupid if he did not guess it was Luke when he saw nothing was done about Clarisse and the Grover's shoe. It was also refreshing that Luke did not just go from kind brotherly to full cold-blooded murderer in an instant. Instead it felt like he was a traumatized and delusional teen who has a huge wrath against God esp against his dad and is convinced that he is doing the right thing. The way he was trying not to do anything and then loses it when Percy mentions his dad. The entire scene shows Lukes complicated emotion. The only thing is, I didn't feel that emotional punch when Annabeth reveals herself. Since, they did not establish the bond between the two or that Luke was Annabeth's hero, the scene felt empty.

You talking about expanding on the characters really just gets me thinking about how they’ll expand on everyone’s past each season. Like season 2 will be Grover and his wishes to find Pan as he struggles with the reality of how hard it is to go into the unknown. And then season 3 be Annabeth and Thalia’s backstory and that’s when they REALLY experiment with Luke’s role. Not only would it empower the choice to share how close they are, but like you said, the story allows for expanding aspects of their journeys. It would be so fun.

Thank you for putting this out! You really gave me a new perspective on how I view the show. PJO was my childhood. It’s my favorite series and I reread the series so much, at one point I was able to word for word recite the second half of TLO. When I first watch the series, I felt bogged down by the long expositions and rushed during the action scenes. I felt that it was not a true retelling as uncle Rick promised as it cut down parts I do like, brush over some Persassy moments, and changed the intricacy of character points. I love the actors. Especially the behind the scenes, they truly felt like the characters brought to life. I like the extra scenes a lot more than some of my favorite recreated scenes. Now looking back it might be because I have no emotional attachment that has been honed over years. But my first emotional reaction was there were a dark filter over everything. Some scenes(especially the ones with cgi) looks really dark. I felt the characters personalities wasn’t as vibrant to me as they were in the books. Watching your reactions, you point out a lot of issues I do have with the shows a give a reasonable and logical reason why they change it. You saying to view this a two different versions of the same loved story is impactful. So thank you. I’ll now rewatch the whole series with a different lens. I hope I’ll enjoy it more this time - maybe more once I separate the two.

Adaptations are a different version of the original story is an apt mindset going into any adaptations. Hope people keep that in mind. Thanks for these wonderful, intelligent and super fun Percy Jackson reactions and looking forward to the Avatar the Last Airbender videos at the end of this month!

I’ve been doing that too! You have to separate the versions of the story in your head, or you’ll get caught up in every little thing they do differently. I just think of it as book Percy and show Percy😂❤

People just need to remember: it’s an adaptation, not a recreation! As long as the heart of the story is there, the plot stays intact, and they’re making changes in good faith, then I think they did their job well enough. I think they did a fantastic job with the show!!

I really like how the show hades is kinda like, laid back. Maybe just because to me because I see hades as a chill dude who isn’t really like a guy who has a strong authoritarian vibe to him unless you mess up. Like I even heard the cerberus could mean spot, so he named his heckhound spot. Like he’s just done with his family, like Hestia in Greek mythology. Fun fact they are both the eldest and both are just like done

We all love Walker, Leah and Aryan of course, but… can we share some young actor love for Charlie Bushnell (Luke) and Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse)? They have to carry major players that aren’t big yet but will be, and have emotional layers that are tougher to peel than most of them. Also, the actress who played Nancy in Episode 1 really needs her own breakout role one day (apparently she auditioned for Clarisse but lost out to Dior - understandably so, the latter is a damned revelation). Like, the big reason I accept the Di Angelo sibs not being cast yet is because the risk of recasting would have neutered the effect of getting attached to the kids; better that they work on them when they appear and keep the actors, than potentially undermining that… Other kids I especially hope get fantastic casting would be Silena, Beckendorf, and of course Thalia. Finally, if you ranked the gods who appeared this season (Hermes, Ares, Hephaestus, and the Big Three) which way would you order them? I think all of them were well-cast (RIP Lance Reddick, your successor has a tough act to follow), but damn Toby Stephens…

I had only seen the movies and not read the books, so I wasn't planning on watching the show however I did so in order to watch your recaps! Your analysis and views are always really interesting to hear. So great sharing your emotional response to the show too. Thanks so much for making these videos Mikaila and also for providing insight into what changed from the Sacred Text too! Already looking forward to your recaps of the next season!

The one thing I'm hoping to see in S2 (IT'S OFFICIALLY COMING OUT! LET'S GO!) is flashbacks between Annabeth, Thalia, Luke, and later Grover once they all meet up. I agree with what you mentioned towards the end of the video with a little bit of a lacking in seeing Annabeth and Luke acting as siblings. Considering book two ends with (SPOILERS) Thalia coming back I'd love to see some flashbacks of those characters escaping monsters, growing relationships, and how they went from strangers to family. I think adding those scenes in will make Luke's betrayal more impactful for the fans who didn't read the books or who watched the show first. in the books, we got to see more of Luke being the cool older brother character than we did in the show and I think that's what made it so impactful on us book fans. I'd also love to see a flashback specifically to the Cyclops scene with Thalia, Luke, Annabeth, and Grover showing just how terrifying it was for Annabeth to be around another Cyclops even though Tyson is like the sweetest fucking person ever. And I don't want to wait till the last second of the last episode to see Thalia because I'm impatient.

WE GOT SEASON 2!!!!! Also I toltally loved the changes!!! I honestly did not want a word-to-word adaptation cause it would take the suspense away for me and these changes and added scenes made me watch the show with like a childlike wonder that I had when I was reading the books added witht he familiarity of already being acquainted with the characters. Plus it helped me keep my original animation in my mind while giving me somthing else to visualise. Obviously there are some scenes I would have prefered to be similar to the original like the meeting with Charon (the bathtub line would have added like 2 minutes more) and the crusty's waterbed scene (the books one was funnier), and I agree the Ares fight should have been longer, but the changes are a total win for me. Didn't take away from the original vibe but also gave us something new (like you said about a new perspective on the characters).
