I met my boyfriend on a dating app. There was an instant attraction. He lived 10,000 miles away and video chatted daily. There was an 11 hour time difference so it was hard to find the time with our jobs. After a few months we started planning on him moving here. After about a year he came to live with me. He is going to University to learn English (just an excuse to have in the U.S.) we've been together for over two years and so in love. If you want it to work you will find a way.

So true... I met my sister's future sister in law at my sister's wedding, the attraction was mutual... she is from the Netherlands, I was living in the USA. We'd travel back n forth before smart phones. It was difficult. Then dated a piano player in Chicago... 3 hrs away, now... in a fabulous relationship with a 2 hrs drive... it's super easy now with texting, FaceTime, and all the other apps. We both travel to see eachother depending on schedules n commitments... sometimes we see eachother 6 times a month, sometimes once a month. Our long weekends are fabulous, but yeah... long distance relationships can be difficult. It depends on us to make it work. JoseTheVegan on KZbin

Mikey Z maintaining long distance friendships is difficult as well. As time goes on the phone calls and text messages dwindle further and further down. The true test of that friendship is when the two of you get back together in person and if it feels like you both never skipped a beat. I’m very fortunate to have a few of those.

Thank you for the advice Andrew. I'm in my first long-distance relationship and it's been going for 5 weeks now. He is planning to drive down to see me in about a week. A lot of things are going through my head at the moment with the job and studies and this relationship just kind of happened. We are texting each other every day because communication is what keeps the relationship alive, and as loyal as i want to be, i do feel this insecurity because i feel vulnerable and don't want to get hurt. I hate conflict and always see the good in each person. I believe that there is a solution for every problem and i feel if we talk about everything we can figure out what's going to happen next. I just pray and hope things will go well this time around. :)

Andrew, I am always impressed by your maturity when I'm watching videos of yours. Everybody goes on about how "hot" you are (and yes, you are hella attractive physically speaking) but the steamy side of you has nothing to do with your physical looks. It has EVERYTHING to do with your emotional and intellectual maturity. That's NOT something that comes easily to a lot of guys; not only your age but OLDER guys often exhibit a lack of it. And I'm not saying you're perfect; only that I respect the maturity you exhibit and how you carry yourself in your videos. I'm sure there are "moments" when you would test the patience of the pope. We all have those moments. ROFL! I've had my fair share of long-distance relationships/disasters over the years. I know that they "CAN" work for some couples but I also know myself well enough to know my limitations. (I'm that guy who likes to hold or be held, who enjoys holding hands, who enjoys emotionally supporting my BF and likes to be emotionally supported as well - and these things are hard to do with you're hundreds or thousands of miles apart. Of course, I'm celebrating my 57th birthday today so feel as though my days of looking for "Mister Right" are pretty much behind me. I know for most people that wouldn't be true but honestly I am tired of the search so... I'll be "that old maid queen" and that's just fine. Whomever does put a ring on your finger will be one very fortunate young man - and I know you'll be equally fortunate because you are mature enough that you'll have taken the time to grow together and get to know one another well such that it'll be the right move for BOTH of you when it happens. Hugs to you, Andrew. Keep up the great work on your videos. Some (many I suspect) of us enjoy you not only for the eye candy but for the "intellectual candy" as well. 😄

Loved this video because you allow yourself to be vulnerable recanting your story and it is empowering. It really resonated with me. In 1995 when I lived in Seattle I fell in love with this young Swedish lad doing a PhD post doc in Theoretical Physics at the University of Washington in Seattle. I would spend every spare moment introducing him to friends or hanging out with him. The PhD post doc position ended at we spent the 10 years in a long distance relationship, "planning to rendezvous" in Europe or America anytime our work schedules allowed. I realized one day that I had to take the leap of faith because I was in Limbo. So I applied for permanent residency status in Sweden and prepared to set aside my family and network of friends in America , for this one relationship. I moved to Sweden in 2006 and NEVER LOOKED BACK. It was the best decision of my life. My advice to all young gay men in a long distance relationship. If you know he is the ONE. Risk it ALL. Do not live with regrets.

@@userje4702 Thank you for your comment. I am very happy to say that we celebrated year 26 together and are very much in love and are planning the rest of our lives together. I have learned Swedish and although not fluent , I can manage myself socially and in places like a restaurant, a hospital, or a business meeting. We invested in real estate in the pricey Capitol of Stockholm, and currently enjoy a penthouse apartment in Stockholm and renovated a weekend cabin on the Baltic. My recommendation to every LGBTQ person is to risk it all for love, as we will not stay young forever, but love can outstrip time. Looking forward to growing old together with the passion of living. If this can happen to me , you too can also find love, companionship, and passion. Follow your heart.

First of all I wanna say that your apartment is amazing. I love the balcony and I don't think you should change anything. Do it the way you feel it cos it's your home, you know. For me my home is my sanctuary. On the topic with far distant relationships - I don't know if it's actually a coincidence of you making a video about it but I recently made myself a profile in a dating app. The thing is, a guy from the Philippines found me. I'm literally on the other side of the globe from him. Like 10k kilometers or so. We've been chatting pretty much since day one ( just a couple of days) and It feels amazing. I kinda don't know if I should eventually keep going deeper cos I really don't wanna hurt people in any way. It's not impossible to travel or go anywhere in 2019 but it's still super hard to just abandon everything and go for the love you know? Yes, it's very early but I just know we will get into a point where we'll fall inlove, I just don't know if it's the right thing to do.

A gay male who came out this year: My first boyfriend (met on Tinder) was about an hour and a half away, which doesnt sound long but the thing was neither of us could drive because of the fact that I have epilepsy and he just moved here recently from Brazil. We managed to see eachother a few times but it was hard to see him consistently with him being so far away, and it was just too hard. My current boyfriend (also met on Tinder), lives 30 minutes away he is much closer and he can drive it is a much better relationship (we are a much better match for eachother too tbh haha). I also finally got approved to drive since I haven't had a seizure in quite a while 😊 Things are going extremely well! 😊 Tbh I've always been an avid fan of dating sites. They take a TON of work to find a decent person who actually wants to put in the effort into a relationship, but when you finally do find that person it is so worth it 😊😊😊

Very relatable video lol. I’d always talk to guys on apps and stuff and that’s pretty much how most of my dating has played out for me most of the time. Lately though I’ve been talking to this guy who lives near Manchester that I met on Omegle. lol I know who actually goes on Omegle unless you’re like 15, but I’m 24. Anyway I just started talking to this guy who just feels so warm and approachable that I have really good conversations with. I didn’t expect to ever actually like a guy from Omegle as I had undisclosed other intentions lol. We’ve been video chatting for about a month now and I still look forward to talking to him each day. We pretty much talk every single day and I grow increasingly curious about him each day. We talk about our families, our friends, our jobs, things we’re interested in, our dreams, our emotions, music, art, people, facts, ideas it never runs dry. We talk about how we’re both interested in meeting at some point pretty much every time we talk even wishing we could teleport. The only probably is he lives in the Manchester area and I live in the DC area, but for some reason I feel like it’s worth my time to continue to get to know him, so that’s what I’m going to do. I don’t have any expectations I’m just enjoying each time I talk to him as they come and getting to know him more and more as person. All I know is that it feels good and there’s something about this person I really like that I need to know more about.

Hmm... the closest I got to LDR is me at 13 and a 12 year old girl who I met over a game and we were sending each other gifts online, playing together all the time and chatting a lot. We sent each other game heart (shows up on you that you are with this person) but then soon I got bored of playing only with her and wanted to play with my friends and she was clingy and jealous so we broke up and Next year, I realised I didn’t actually like girls and I was having a crush on the guy who I wanted to play with instead of her 🙈🙈

Hey Andrew, I don't know if you'll read this, and it's ok lol. I know your very busy and have a ton of fans. I have a lot of experience in this area. I'd be happy to share some advice. There's really only thing you need to remember when involved in a long distance relationship. Stay in constant communication...or as much as possible. Everything else will follow. Please know, it does come with a price. What I mean by that is to be honest Andrew they seldom work out, even through no fault of your own. The reasons are endless, but from my experience and research I've done...the common thread seems to be from lack of communication. Andrew, I unfortunately was one of the ones that despite my best efforts, wasn't so lucky. Just remember it's a two way street. The other person has to be on the same page, make you a priority and put in the effort. Would I try it again...ABSOLUTELY ! I believe when you love someone...I mean really love them, you take a chance. That's what love is all about. If you never try, you'll never know. I hope it works out and I want nothing but the best for you man. Your such a sweet guy, with a good heart and deserve someone who will love you with everything they got, not just when its convenient. I know I would. Take care, and don't change for anyone. Your beautiful just the way you are. God bless, xoxo J. ❤ P.s. sorry this was long...it's a subject I'm passionate about. Andrew I hope you find what your looking for. 😘

You guys have been moving in it seems. You guys will find the time to get it finished. Do you think that is too much greenery in your room? I have no suggestions as to how you should arrange things. Your topic was interesting. Your comment in the beginning is so true and so many people fall for people not near them because they are not making the connection near them. That is just it.. people want and need the connection. The story was quite interesting. The things people do for love and for the romantic connection. You both were young. You did not know. It was a new experience. You made some good points about long distance relationships. You enjoy your sword. I have no stories to share. I have never been in love or a relationship, but had a long distance mind games among other things..

Long before the apps, I tried long distance twice. Didn’t seem to work out for me. Looking back I can see that the lack of communication was a big factor. Maybe in the future. Can’t say that I would not try again.
