Can you please explaing difference between I-MR and Levey-Jennings chart for individual X measurements? Especially in regards to use cases and methods/formula to calculate standard deviation and control chart limits?

How process capability/performance is calculated in case of I-MR chart i.e. individual X measurements?

Great video sir. Clear and concise. Is the process out of control if either of the charts upper (I) or lower (MR) includes special causes? If there is no special causes identified in upper (I chart), but special cause is identified only in lower (MR), will the process still be considered out of control? Can you please clarify.

Thank you for your valuable comments. For interpretation of charts, you have to look first for MR chart. If it doesn't show any special cause, then go for I chart. But if MR chart shows the special cause, your process is not stable and need to investigate it. You should not go for I chart if MR shows presence of special cause.

Hi how to calculate Control limit on the MR chart? I have found the multiplication by 3.27, but what is that no?...

Thank you for your valuable comments. This is the value of D4 for calculating control limits by manually. But, I will prefer to use available softwares and excel to save time and you can focus on other important things rather than thinking on " How it is?". Nowadays, we prefer to use calculator instead of calculating it on paper.

What to do if the MR chart is out of control?

That is an indicator that your process variation is not in control. Investigate the out-of-control points and take action on them.

Thank you for your valuable comments. I will do that, but Excel has it's limitations. Many of these analysis cannot be conducted in Excel. I am trying to mention it in Excel also, where it can be done.

What should be the minimum sample size to perform this test? What if I have a USL AND LSL.? How I can interpret the results using speciation limits

You must have a sample size of around 20 to use the I-MR control chart. Please compare your control limits with specification limits for interpretation.😊
