After 2 full play throughs now, I finally realised that If there’s one thing I really miss in this game that the first two games did excellently, it their big plot twists. (SPOILERS FOR BDFF & BS) The whole fLYING fAIRY plot twist fucking blew my mind when it happened and to a lesser extent Send Player in Second. I kind of miss the fairytale vibes the first games had that this game kind of lacks in and while I like that the nexus becomes the way that they are due to her realising she’s in a videogame and creating her own save file, I still feel like the story could have done something soo much better. (I still wonder if the pandemic might have impacted the development of this game)

I certainly agree. This was the game to really expand the series onto a more accessible market than the 3ds and its execution was lukewarm at best.

More than anything else, the counters really grated on me. It's like they lost track of all the stuff you can do and just said "well, we can sure as hell still make it hard." Cause instead of having unique bosses with powers and dynamics you'd solve with all your job combinations, they just counter anything that might actually be useful. I'm not really strategizing, I'm just finding the "acceptable" way to play the fight without the game punching me in the face and telling me to get back in line. ..only to find out that there is no line once 'counter: any ability' shows up.

I completely agree , I couldn't figure out how turn order worked and I ended up putting the game down like 3 hours in Like I just rember enemies getting to attack me over and over and never getting to hit back. Also a lot of bosses haveing their turns get bumped up to first as a retaliation to the rare times I did get to attack. It was a huge let down for me

I REALLY want to get into this game, yeah it is slow at first but i at least want to finish it the only thing holding me back is the game play. When i first played the original games I LOVED THEM with all my heart the story and characters to me personally was a wonderful experience (bravely default and bravely second). So when i heard about this one i was really excited to play, all was going well until the game play which my first reaction was "wow, this is different" and what i mean by that is the order in which each character takes turns attacking. I had a whole plan going for jobs, weapons, and items to use but all that went to shreds. With that i thought "Maybe i will get used to this and figure out the pattern of attacking". To my surprise it was random in each turn which in turn threw me off really bad. and if any one has any tips i can use for my play through I am all ears. (PS. still in the beginning of the game at "Spare with Martha" she has beaten me multiple times already)

Hmm that's interesting. I never really had an issue with who gets whatever turn depending on their class. I would check your setup first and maybe determine if certain skills can alter who goes first.

I really enjoy BD2 but the lack of a compelling story and plot is really what holds it back for me from being a great rpg and just makes it okay. If a game has great storytelling with complex and interesting characters, I can forgive a lot of flaws. It took me a long time to finish BD2 because even though I think the mechanics are fun and challenging, I just didn't care about the characters or the story and there wasn't a compelling narrative that drove me to keep going. So I'd end up putting it down for long periods of time. While I've played through some of the classic snes and ps1 era rpgs multiple times over the years, I will probably never beat BD2 more than once.
@Natquerx10 ай бұрын
I can agree with that. I felt like this game should taken things up a notch for the series especially with a console release. It could have served as a bridge to bring in new and old players to the series.
@mannydani9180Ай бұрын
My biggest issue with BD2 was the information the player just isn't given access to. There are so many things the game just doesn't tell you and it bothers me. It doesn't tell you how "Chance to be targeted" works, it doesn't tell you how lighter weights and speed factor into turn speed, it doesn't tell you enemy resistances, immunities, or absorbs even after you figure them out, it doesn't tell you what an enemies counters are so if you forget that a boss smacks you when you use healng spells, tough luck. There's also no way to see what status effects do outside the occasional popup tutorial that explains them (like with Daub). If they were trying to keep the detail window from being overwhelming, they could have added an extra button press to look in depth at an enemies full lineup of stats and abilities to better plan your next move, or inform the player of what certain effects (like Hell blade's blades in the Adam fight) have on your party I still absolutely love this game and hope we get more BD2 (Class balancing feels best out of the bravely games and there are reasons to use each one) or that they take the feedback from this game for the next Bravely game they do because I would absolutely love to see more of it

The Bravely Default series isn't known for its strong story telling. It's all about the mechanics, the job system, the turn based combat, the grind.
@Natquerx2 жыл бұрын
I agree. But the point I was trying to make is why shouldn't they push to give it a better story if everything else is fun? No harm in just wanting an overall better product when this is the 3rd installment into the series.

@@Natquerx Define "better" cuz that is not something which is measurable. Maybe you misunderstood the story and that's why you think it should be "better".
@Natquerx Жыл бұрын
@@finalfrontier001 It has nothing to do with misunderstanding. The characters are extremely weak outside of Elvis on a good day. We went from Yew to Tiz to Seth who feels like a watered-down version of Tiz. Not to mention side quests provided most of the background after a decent portion of the game. If you miss those sidequests then it just leaves it feeling segmented. The story is sufficient, but it does not stand out. Even with BD or BS I at least was like whoa at the end but this game it was just another JRPG.

Yeah, don't play how you want to, play how the game wants you to instead lol Nah, i used every job as soon as a got it and i still hated the counters, the game doesn't tell you about them in the slightest and effectively forces you to grind jobs

I don't know, I've played all 3 Bravely and this one in particular seems to me the best of the series in every way, the first 2 were boring for me due to the overexposure of the story and frustrating with their normal enemies, I think this game is a step in the right direction for the future, now talking about the story, Bravely never stood out for this, in fact as I said before they suffer from info dump and the only thing that stands out is their twist at the end, Bd2 has a different narration which goes much more with me, and although it seems a bit accelerated to me, I can understand the characters for what they are and not for what they say about who they are, in the end Gloria ended up being my favorite character in the series for that reason, the good thing is that this game was well received so we will get more Bravely in the future

@lategameessays6295 The original Japanese release of the 3ds bravely were awful especially second the fixed versions that got international release were great. Bravely default 2 is right in the middle not as offensive screw ups like needing a square Enix account for a lot of features or only getting bad endings to side quests if you made a choice that got you an asterisk.

Nice video! I partly agree with your points on the story. I'd actually be less kind - I think the Original BD, and BS were actually more engaging stories with more interesting ideas than BD2 even tries to put forward... The battle system is by far the biggest killer of this game for me... When you find enemies later on that just counter any kind of movement or action, it becomes an exercise in frustration, and there's no point in storing up brave points since it just means enemies counter you multiple times in one turn, and can even kill you before you finish braving through everything... It feels like they ruined one of the few "original" mechanics to the series by punishing you for using it... Aside from those slight disagreements, I think your review was pretty on-the-money
@Natquerx2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for checking it out. I do wish they actually tried with the story which is a bit sad especially with the game being on a console. Like hit the people with a complete banger not make them think the series as a whole is nothing special.

I could've condoned anything as long as the art direction was ok, but is so damn ugly, and that has nothing to do with graphics.
@coreymartin5981 Жыл бұрын
I would give it a 6.5 out of 10. I don't mind the fact that the game can be very grindy, but I hate that the battle system is so......boring and even gimmicky(with advance turns). That makes grinding even more of a chore than it already is. The character classes are appreciated but it's nothing new. Next, the villians............ooooh boy, where to start with them? To put it simply, none of them really did it for me. When you don't have a good villian than it can hamper your investment of the story. Adam......who has an outlandish look and non-main villian vibe......and the final boss, that you likely could predict before the unveiling, never made the payoff of spending dozens of hours playing the game really worth it. On the flip hand, I found myself enjoying a hidden gem of a game, Alliance Alive, a ton more than BD2.
@Natquerx Жыл бұрын
I did not mind the battle system but felt like they missed an opportunity to take things to the next level. Regarding the villains it was the same approach. They played it safe, and we got what we got as our first console BD game. Also I have played Alliance Alive and Legend of Legacy. Both are pretty good! (Albeit a little dry but I do enjoy the challenge)

This game starts strong, has good mechanics, bosses and a passable story. But certain jobs.. make it redundant. once you've unlocked beast master or decide to grind out your jobs.. freelancer. It becomes a joke. Mixing indescriminant rage, spear head, steal abilities and beast whisperer makes the game boring and again.. redundant. You steal heaps if jp and exp orbs and get stronger to the point of being over powered very quickly. You have to specifically avoid this obvious combo to enjoy the game at all. Figured this out early, had to avoid the class entirely after a few hours so I could keep enjoying the game.

For me the music, city design, job system and battle system were realy top tier. I do think that the dungeons were not interesting at all comparing to Bravely Second. I also do prefer the art style of the first tow games than the new one, tho the jobs desing is solid. Regarding the story. I dont realy mind it, the main is boring as hell, tho some chapters had cities with interesting themes. My problem with the story is the main cast. Seth and Gloria are too boring, I rather that Adel and Elvis were the main focus. Over all they are the worst main cast of the series.
