Its only really a bait rod meant for catching Pinfish which we use as livebaits for Tarpon, and Pinfish are about 5 inches long...

Totally Awesome 🎣 video Graeme 👍👍. It is Epic catching esox Lucius Pike on a fly rod 😀 😃 , court plenty in Northern Ontario 🇨🇦 . Though only one Musky in 10 years 17lb+ ' 49 Inc in length ' 😊, took over 45+ minutes to net it 😧. As I has fishing from a Belly Boat, so it just dragged me around 😆🙂.

19:07 2nd decent natural pike not a predatory "carp tart" over feed on chemicals. I gave up course fishing 25 years ago including fly, though I was trying to swff but lost my reels rod and fresh water fly's, some I even tied. I've been toying with getting a used heavy fly set up for SWFF now you increased that idea with going back to fresh fly for the pike, thank you
@Coxeysbodgering2 ай бұрын
You wouldn't get "tarpan" like sport with the carp tart guts on pike in most fisheries. Have you ever had smoked pike? It's delicious, my grandfather was a fishery warden for a river and reservoir every few years they would stun the river to remove predators and rainbow trout. Those with nowhere to be rehomed where sent to our game dealer and smoked. If you are chub fishing a river or pond consider slugs as bait the big black and orange ones are deadly or were for me as a kid 30 years ago.

Youre not the only one that had a carp on lures! I got 16-18lb common on an 7cm perch imitation lure. At the location where I fish I'll occasionally foul hook a carp by accident and they'll just rip themselves free from the hook without much hassle. But this fish had gotten hooked in the corner of its mouth. I wouldnt have been able to land it otherwise. Unfortunately the fish didnt look in the best of health (thick white mucus on parts of the fish...) so I didnt bother getting the scales out to weigh it or holding it up for a proper photo. Snapped a quick picture of it while it was on the mat then slipped it back in. 4-14g spinning rod and 28lb braid

Most of my gear was bought from Kmart! Some of the greatest fun that I've had while fishing has been with cheap "garbage" I've bought there. I've owned and still have some very nice combos that cost quite a bit, but when it comes down to a quite session among the weeds, I'll pick out my cheapos most of the time. People : "Carp won't take lures!" Me : "Uh yeah, okay".
@sambick76442 ай бұрын
I love a good cheap rod, my 8 year old has a little 4 ft go outdoors special (day-go yellow).😅 . A Pike kept taking small Dace he was catching, I clipped a size 4 hook onto a trace, hooked a section of Dace he’d managed to pull free from the vice like grip of said Pike, flicked it into the abyss of our local canal… one hell of a battle took place for roughly 15 minutes, the result was a gobsmacked little boy. (my son was also speechless)😂 a 7lb 8oz Pike on the bank. And probably some happy Dace.

Hopefully you didn't kill it

I landed a 19lb 8 oz carp whilst out leisure canal fishing, on a £13 12ft float rod with 2.5lb line and a size 16, so I guess that was pushing the boat out.

Graeme, have you ever tried a bendback fly? They are very good for weed. Hook rides point up and point is covered with hair or feathers.
@TAFishing2 ай бұрын
I have yet to try those,but I have used them with a piece of stiffer nylon that is whipped on beneath the eye and trails to just over the hook point to act as weedless. In fairness I don't do a whole lot of fly fishing for Pike.

@@TAFishing Once in my life I was fishing with my father on a water reservoir lake near Madrit in Spain. There are 4 such reservoirs and you need a special permit to fish there. Basically they are full of carp, and huge pike. My father caught a 40 lbs one, and I was playing with the carp...
