In my job I am cutting acrylic on laser also made custom distro plates on CNC machines. any CO2 laser will cut acrylic. don't cheap out on smoke extraction. also air assist in the nozzle helps with cleaner cuts. size of the laser and power totally up to you if you want to cut 6mm and above acrylic efficiently and in decent speeds you really need the high watt lasers(100w and above).

I got familiar with Elmor Labs several years back when asking around and doing research for better logging when stress testing my PC builds for stability. Since I tend to upgrade an entire system every 2 years with a GPU or CPU upgrade by itself every year I needed to know how far I could push my overclocks and remain rock solid stable while also maintaining acceptable temps.. With a couple small pieces of hardware it made tuning things to the edge easier and then pulling back a notch or 2 for the reason I am not doing it for a competitive OC. With CPUs having been given all the juice and now the 2 Big Companies are pulling back on those numbers there's way more headroom to OC then every before (possible slight exaggeration but you get the point) and so having accurate info is critical. I've only recently started mesing with memory and the timings and it's "A Process" to say the least. My wish is that I find something to make that journey easier as it's a full day, if not more, of tweaking little by little to get things going and that includes writing down everything or rather typing into a spreadsheet so when a BIOS Update clears all that info out it's a matter of "Copy and Paste" and that's also for CPU tuning. Cheers! Stay Healthy and Stay Sane and I wish you all the fun of going through the hardware logging catelog Elmor's Lab has to offer! There's other sites as well but can't remember off the top of my head right now.

This is super cool! I'm going to share with my hubby. I think it would be very useful to help show customers when their PSUs are under-powered. We have a contraption to test whether the voltage from the PSU (12V, CPU, PCIe rails) stays constant under a small load; this would help round-out our diagnostic tool kit for PSUs and component/system power.

@MrsRepairTech10 сағат бұрын
@@Njazmo And an underpowered PSU can cause a variety of intermittent symptoms, too. We have a not-so-great electrical grid in our city; many houses have fluctuating voltages. We also have wind and electrical storms that cause regular power outages, which is always a risk to a PC plugged straight into the wall. We try to keep 500W PSUs, surge protectors, and UPCs (for our biz clients with servers) on hand during Fall/Spring. A browning out PSU is a bummer, BUT at least the hardest part of the upgrade is just the spaghetti.

Laser: You're right, you need a CO2 laser for acrylic (CO2 is also good at wood, but not good at copper, for example). How much power depends on the max thickness you want to cut. 1/8" material is a 30-40w laser, 1/2" material needs more like 120W. Because you want to cut plastics, you must have ventilation because the fumes are toxic. Most people use Lightburn to drive lasers. It's basically the equivalent to the 'slicer' type software your 3D printers use. You will want an enclosure. 120w is enough laser power to cook your skin black almost instantly. Even a partial reflection (say, 30W) will hurt badly. The final choice is between a galvo system and a normal gantry. A galvo system has the laser mounted in the back and uses two lightweight mirrors to reflect the beam on the target (one of the mirrors is normally on a mobile gantry, but because mirrors are measured in grams, the gantry can move EXTREMELY fast). A normal gantry (like a glowforge) has the laser on the gantry itself. This is a cheaper solution, but limits how fast the laser can be moved, as vibration ruins laser focus and thus cut performance. I'm happy to explain more about lasers, I'm not sure exactly what you need to know. Tell me how to get in touch with you if you want to know more.

Great way to slide in a Batman reference, Jay! And, yes, there are many references to monsters and being the monster, or variations of it, in the lore across all of the titles in the Batman universe of comics. With your test bench, you had the right idea with those additions. It looks like you could put one or two more of those long posts up, as there are holes to coincide with each of the removeable blanks for PCI hardware to access the outside. That would give you an additional point (or points) of solid anchorage needed for a more stable mount.

The only thing I know about laser cutters is you need an enclosure to protect your eyes (any windows if present, need to be the right material to filter the frequencies; infrared is more dangerous at lower powers because being invisible the IR light doesn't trigger your blink reflex; but usually anything strong enough to cut is always dangerous if it happens to bounce towards your eyes, can't blink fast enough to avoid damage), and the fumes/particulates are pretty bad for your health.
@Hotecce1Күн бұрын
you dont have to worry so much about the laser damaging your eyes, as most laser machines come with the correct filtering goggles. The only reason you need an enclosure,with fan extraction, is to suck out all of the smoke as it produces alot of smoke. If you make your own enclosure, you can add a window with green see through perspex. thats what i have done for my machine. otherwise you can buy an enclosure.

Cool video, I had always wondered why these type of in line metering devices weren't used more in benchmarking.
@TurboLoveTrain19 сағат бұрын
They are--by the manufacturers. They look at the physical SMPS-rectified wave because the bus and ram stack power create non linear harmonics and the default timings account for frequency drift in those harmonics. Looking at the Voltage and Amps through a power input/output node honestly isn't as helpful with overclocking as you might think because almost all the timings are relative to bus harmonics and not total power from the input power node.

Make sure the laser cutter can cut clear acrylic. Lots of the cheap options can't do this. The Laser cutter will need to be ventilated properly, many materials will produce toxic gases/fumes. Also consider the potential for a fire when deciding what to get and where to locate it. It's worth going for a proper C02 laser cutter with a metal enclosure, ventilation and good software support. They are not cheap, which is why I don't own one yet. You get what you pay for. Cheap diode laser cutters are imho a waste of money and unsafe.
@mockierКүн бұрын
Can a Diode Laser Cut Acrylic? A diode laser can also cut acrylic; however, it is crucial to understand the limitations related to acrylic colors. Generally, diode laser cutters can cut some dark opaque acrylic. Specifically, with a blue-light diode laser, engraving or cutting blue acrylic is not possible, as the material will not absorb the laser beam due to the matching color. Additionally, diode lasers are incapable of engraving or cutting clear acrylic.
