Hey 👋🏼 Allie! First of all, the first tree you showed yourself saddled to was poison ivy from the ground up to where you were! 🤦🏻 In south Florida your dealing with poison ivy, sumac and poison oak and it is so prevalent! Learn to identify all three! Next try to locate hardwood hammocks in the swamps of Florida and hunt there because you will see the wildlife seeking refuge there. And finally, I’m extremely allergic to urishiol which is an oily substance and allergen that is in the above mentioned plants. After every hunt I come home and bathe in dawn dish liquid and wash my clothes in that stuff. Wear rubber boots and gloves and wash them and your gear thoroughly after trekking in and out. Im native to south Florida living in south Louisiana now and hunting the swamps here -very similar terrain! Oh yeah, take lots of Benadryl to help with the itching, it helps a lot!

Allie, the thing to remember about poison ivy is that it's like grease, so you have to use something (like Dawn) to remove it. Just using water won't remove all of it. And as others have said, it can remain on clothing for a long time. I've actually had it go through clothing onto my skin when the clothing got wet.

Early season is always really tough in the morning because most deer end up in the beds while it’s still dark. Trail cameras are a good idea and put them up 10 feet in the air so no one can reach them. Something else to remember about poison ivy is that if it’s on clothing, boots or your pets it can be there for weeks and you can still get it! Most definitely your pillow covers and sheets, this is usually how it spreads all around your body! You must wash everything as soon as you know you’ve touched it. Thanks for your channel! Good Luck!

What I use for poison ivy was ferns. Wip the under side of the fern leafs to stop the iching. Not shure if Florida has ferns but here in Washington that's what I use if you get into a patch of ivy. You should invest in a pair of hip or chest waiders. My mom used to put bags on my feet when it snowed out so my feet didn't get wet when playn.

Hello, recently discovered your channel. I'm and old fellow, 67, and have been hunting my whole life. I used to have trouble with poison ivy until I learned the secret. At the first sign of breakout, wipe the area with bleach. Household bleach on a cloth and in a day, maybe two, it will be gone. Yes it burns a litle but is worth it for the quick cure. Keep doing what you are doing. Wish you great success....

One who is super allergic to poison ivy, I've even got it from smoke burning brush, go straight to the Dr and get the good stuff to dry it up. I believe poison ivy has a range of 10+ days before it's starts to go away. Stay away(don't scratch the small blister, that will make it spread. Watch for the super flaird up one that look like they are multi layer. Those may leave scars that will take years to go aways ( understand this what I've experienced) take care and love the new video content.

Hey Allie, been in the woods my whole life and never had poison ivy. Funny thing happened as I got older (55), I developed a reaction to poison ivy. I have found that Tea Tree Oil knocks it out pretty quick when none of the OTCs would touch it. Apply the oil a few times a day, no itching and it disappears within a few days. From one EMT to another, good luck. Keep up the good work.

I learned last year just how hard it is hunting here. Being from MO, public land is a cake walk compared to here in FL. Only way to find deer is to find those three oak trees every 500 or so acres and hunt em. It's the inverse of hunting eastern woodlands in the midwest. There, you find the bedding, you'll find the deer because food is everywhere. Here, you have to find the food because bedding is everywhere. It's a dynamic I'm still trying to grasp

Find some acorns from near where you picked up the ivy, boil a handful in a pint of water for 15 minutes till the water turns brown with the tannins. Let it cool and then wash the affected areas with it. You can also soak a bandana or gauze with the tannin water and wrap the area for additional relief and protection. I have used it with great success on many people for poison ivy, oak and sumac rashes. Nature usually provides the cure very near the cause. Hope this old remedy is helpful to you!

If you use the body scrub twice a day, the poison will be dried up in 5 days. It works way faster than the steroids the doctors give you! It even dried up a huge spot that was severely inflamed! Highly recommended! Plus, I also use benadryl gel in between washes. You can pick them both up from your local Walmart. Hope this helps!

I'm quite allergic to poison ivy. It doesn't spread from scratch nor can it spread if they pop. It only spreads from the oils you may not have washed off well from you or your clothing. Get that handled and the spread stops. It's counter intuitive, but, a good itch relief is to run the spot on your arm under scalding hot water for as long as you can stand. It's the weirdest relief but it makes it feel better for hours for me and cuts my healing time down much shorter. Good luck.

Allie! Love your vids. Welcome to the swamp! Been hunting in water for 40 years and it's never an easy go. There are only two things in the Florida deer woods that scare me...poison ivy and stupid people with guns. Most of our snakes are actually gone now...well, the originals at least. Poison Ivy - a couple of comments suggest TECNU - you HAVE TO HAVE this if you react like you do....like I do. You have to remove the active enzyme from your skin. Right after exposure, good soap and water scrub can work but after a few hours your are basically screwed if you don't have a chemical agent to bind with the enzyme and pull it from you skin. TECNU is freaking gold! It's expensive but think about all the crap you just went through. Do NOT put hot water on your affected skin...it may feel good but you should really use cold water only. Wearing covering clothing just makes it worse if you don't get the enzyme off. It will travel with your sweat under the cloth. Someone mentioned the tree you were climbing being covered with PI...It physically made me ill just watching that. If you find the perfect killing tree one the best buck sign you've ever seen and there is even a tiny vine...find another tree. Don't pull it off, don't whack it with a machete, don't even look at it aggressively or it will get on you....cause you break out like I do. Find another tree. Launder exposed clothes and bedding frequently, use hot water in wash and tecnu can also be used in the wash to remove the enzyme. THERE IS NO OTHER QUICK FIX....doctors can treat symptoms but it amazes me how useless I have found them to be when it comes to a fast stop for the problem...tecnu! Can't wait to see your first Florida deer! Or hog, a hog would be cool on public land too. Good luck!

Now this is against what everyone will tell you but it's is 100%. As soon as you see a spot get it under the hottest water you can stand for as long as you can stand it and then put alcohol on it. After that put Calamine on it. Do that 3-4 times a day. When you wake up and when you go to bed. This will draw the oil out, evaporate it and then dry it. I promise you this works and absolutely nothing suggested here or by many doctors ever worked for me untill I started doing this. Also the doctor who taught me this recommended oatmeal baths and never ever use cortisone cream. She said the cortisone is like a feeding the poison oak and Ivy a super food. Hope that helps.

The oil on the leaves it what is poisonous. Wash with a soap that cleans off oil and grease good when you get home or if you suspect you’ve gotten into anything. Wash your clothes too. You mentioned you wore the clothes the day before also.

Being up here in central MN & having a genetic predisposition to poison ivy I know what you're going through Allie. My father finished his last 6 months in the Army stateside. He was in Germany and had poison ivy so bad & they couldn't do anything for him. He had shots his whole life & sprayed the property to rid it of it. I personally haven't had shots & I've had poison ivy every month but December. I even got it with a food of snow in January. We had 12" of snow & the ground wasn't frozen. I was drilling & installing wood fence posts so they would freeze in tight over the winter. I got it from roots in the ground after my father had sprayed for years & there wasn't any growing in that area during the summer. I used Calamine lotion which seemed to dry it up better. Anything oily only made it worse. If I put cold water & Calamine lotion on it I got some relief. Then I would put tube socks over my forearms & hands @ night cuz I would wake up @ night scratching. If I did that I would put the Calamine on & cover it with the socks. Once u get it to dry out half the battle is over. I haven't had it now for 15 years & perhaps it's behind me. Probably worse down there with the heat & humidity which is the worst thing for it. Good luck & get back to the north👍.

I use to get Poison ivy just walking down the road. Didn't have to see and got. I found out taking 3 to 4 Benadryl every 6 to 8 hours for a couple days in the Spring that I wouldn't get it that year so you have to do this every year. My Army Unit had a overnighter and we got a fire going and someone threw a log in the fire loaded with Poison Ivy and I got it so bad, in my mouth, lungs and eyes. So I grab the Benadryl Red tablets and took 4 of them and in 3 days I was clear. Now that Overnighter was in the dead of winter ( snow on the ground ) so anyone says you can't get Poison Ivy in the winter is full of it. But for right now take 2 every 4 hours to help dry it up and stay cool. Also I found that hanging out in a swimming pool help that has a lot of chlorine in it helps.

Tip for killing ticks on your property.. Take Cotton balls, spray them with Permethrin, let them dry, then put the Cotton balls in TP tubs. Set the tubes around your property, the mice will take the balls and make bedding, this will kill ticks on them, and any tick that comes into contact with them.. I know I'm amazing, you can thank me later. Lol

Poison Ivy is a pain, it will spread so don't itch it if you can avoid it. It's also one of the ones that many people are not allergic too. Poison Oak and Poison Sumac are way worse. They can be even worse, hopefully you didn't come in contact with either of those. Good luck with the itching.

I got poison Ivy mid August and it is finally going away. I would rub Alcohol on it to kill the itch and I also used the benadryl itch cream. Alcohol burns a little but it helps. If you guys ever come hunt North Georgia let me know, I have a bomb Birria recipe and it goes awesome with some young deer meat. There is plenty of public land around here. Happy hunting to the both of you!

Turkey eggs are a preferred food source for possums. Shoot or trap ‘em if it’s legal, if you want to help turkeys populate.
