Skul speedruns are VERY RNG heavy and rather difficult to pull off. I'm no longer much of an authority on it at all however. It's a miracle to get a run started let alone keep it together. I recommend checking out the Skul speedrun leaderboard and watch the runs of the top runners and their channels. Inscription ranking is something I might do, but it's very difficult to really put them together as a lot of inscriptions are situational.

Even though Beelz went a different route, I would've taken the legendary poison item at the end of act 2. Reason for it is that he was already critting really high with werewolf's passive, and had the syringe that was guaranteeing poison on crit, so he was essentially guaranteed a 30% AMPLIFIED damage bonus, which is insanely powerful. Plus that item is rarer to find than Thieves Black Steel Dagger. Either choice is very powerful, I've just had some of the strongest builds ever with the legendary poison item and syringe, including obliterating first hero in seconds each phase.

Haven't made it that far in the video yet but I concur that Approaching Death is a clutch item on any poison focused run. I guess he didn't feel he was critting reliably enough, but generally I'd jump at AD as well I think. Edit: The exception being if I _really_ wanted that Rapidity inscription. I do find my Werewolf runs tend to skew heavily toward basic attack spam after all.

I thought I'd look up a guide on how to properly build a run from the ground up, but it became clearer with every minute that the decision space is actually pretty narrow if you have experience with games like this and I did everything well after a few runs. It just really, really helps if you put so many hours into the game that you basically take no damage. Only mistake I made was that I thought that swapping is a game mechanic that is useful, and yes, saw 48:00, but it just seems way better to hyperfocus on one skull.

Focusing 1 skull definitely has a good success rate due to fragment requirements. Your second skull only really needs to be complimentary. Something you can swap to once your main skull has exhausted their cooldowns.

Heyo Beelz, thank u so much for this vid, it helped a lot. I've been playing the game for about a month or two now, and iirc I found u on day one of buying the game, and I've learned hella much from watching your runs & streams. However, one thing I struggle with, and I would think that other people struggle with as well, are what inscriptions work well on which skulls, like, not all physical skulls necessarily work the best with pure physical damage runs with courage or Arms, and so is the case for magic skulls, so, it would be really helpful if you made a video covering general playstyle, strats and skills of each skull line, followed by the best inscriptions/builds for them, I think that would greatly benefit new players

29:47 I was disappointed to find that Cavalry Decoration doesn't make your dashes count as dash attacks. It would have been so killer if it allowed skulls like Werewolf to benefit from the dash attack synergy of items like the Thorny Pauldrons for example.

Tip for newer players: Swapping is very powerful! If you don't have a dominant skull, take advantage of swapping while you are building your main skull. I used to never do swap builds but with the new updates, swapping has become insanely good and REALLY fun. Just note that certain skulls don't do damage on swapping so keep that in mind when you select a 2nd skull. Speed and power skulls mostly do a LOT of damage when swapping, especially when upgraded, that can get you out of a jam if you are surrounded by a lot of enemies.

There are two major things missing in this game, in my opinion: 1 - A buff explaining mechanism, like put your mouse on the buff and read what it's doing. 2 - Bleed/burn/poison damage explaining. I've been playing the game for a while and still don't know how these damages work exactly. These were the reasons that made me stop playing the game after some runs, your videos made me come back tho.

Yes you can definitely do that. Problem for me was I wasn't sure whether I was going to stick with a physical or magical run. So I held onto thief as a magical backup potion just in case the games suddenly started throwing a bunch of magic items my way.

Another reason I dislike the Act 4 healer dude is because, like many of the Act 4 elite enemies, he can't be flinched during an attack animation. So a lot of times I get hit by his quick homing pulse because I stopped for a second to attack him and pow, nails me right before he dies. Those cheeky little pot shots of damage really add up. I guess you could try to smack him once and keep moving, but if he's also got other enemies backing him up that can be risky too. So the best way to deal with that? Have hefty enough damage by Act 4 that you kill him really fast! No chance of him popping you while you're focused on attacking or dodging thrown spears or hopscotching over kamikaze clerics. A lot of Act 4 is a build check, with Joan being the epitome of that.

If you have two dark spirits and find Lou you get 2 shades if you get two solar swords you get dawn of the crimson sun... %100 physical and a solar beam every 50 sec + 2 arms inscriptions And... you can find solar sword again after getting dawn of crimson sun and get a fulgent dawn.... this has to be a glitch right?

Great video for beginners, and I'm only halfway through, so the second half is probably good for slightly more experienced players. Personally, I'd like to see a few more guide videos tailored towards intermediate players who are struggling at the end. You really only need one or two video guides for beginners; it's the players who are stuck on act four and five that get stuck the longest, since it takes about an hour each run to get to the point where you can even get the chance to practice the enemies, bosses, and adventurers of those acts.

I don't need any tips on the first three acts, so I sat through an hour and a half of information I didn't need to get to stuff that started being helpful. Sure, I could skip, but I also like watching you build a run. On your end, I'm sure it gets draining to comment about every little detail for that long. It was draining on my end just listening for that long. What I was suggesting was another guide video, not for completely 'new' players but for 'slightly experienced' players. You can go through the first two or three acts at your normal speed, then slow down and explain the enemies and boss patterns of act four and beyond. That way you aren't burned out when you get there, and you cover the most difficult parts of the game exclusively. If you put it in the title or mention it at the start of the vid, people won't be caught off guard when you suddenly start over-explaining at the end. Then again, this is all coming from a single viewer. No idea how everyone else will react, I'm just describing the run I'd personally like to see.

hey beelz, I have a "QuIrKy AnD fUn RuN iDeA!" basically all that you do, is aim for speed. and I don't mean atc speed...…. i mean full fledged movement speed! I had a run similar to this concept like a month ago, then yesterday I grinded for bout 6 hours and finally got an amazing werewolf movement speed run. (p.s. good excuse to do another wolf-boi run!)

Hardest ones are the ''no hit'' boss kills. Most of the others are simple enough. Requires some pretty specific builds to do that though. And a LOT of practice.

If you want to practice each skull then upgrading it first to its highest tier is a good way to learn what it can do. Every skull will get upgrades t their abilities, passive effects, with some changing a lot more than others, even getting new moves you normally can't until they get upgraded (like Prisoner upgrading into King for example).

@@challengingcharlatan2703 Shield is one of the top 2 best skulls to get relatively safe wins with, alongside Ghoul. With Shield my advice is to upgrade him ASAP. Every chance you have to get bones, take them, get him leveled up. Until he's at least Unique, don't worry about holding the button down to charge his shield, just kind smack dudes to death with skills and basics. Once he's a higher rarity you can hold the shield to block damage and hurt enemies who try to hit you. You can pair this with skill usage and a few careful dodges to get extra survivability. You'd be surprised what you can block. It's sort of like a big counter/parry that lasts for a good while, keeping you safe. He's a slower version of Ghoul but just as safe. Overall though Ghoul is probably (imo) the most consistent skull in the game and can allow you to switch your brain off once you get the hang of him.

Second Update: I have now bested the Adventurers encounter in the Underground Laboratory. I definitely took more damage this time, but not much, and the best aspect of this build is how quickly it disrupts the Adventurers' special attacks. Just jump and spin until they're dead! Edit: Also, I should mention I have the Gryphon Quintessence, so I can airlift normal enemies for more windmill action!

Here is the current build so far: Base Skul Quintessence: Griffon Items: Doomsday, Berserker's Gauntlet, Hand of Glory, Rapid Sword of the Subconscious, Acceleration Sword, Rosary, Kendo Stick, Jenny's Chain Sickle, Golden Sword Inscriptions: Arms (4), Duel (2), Soar (2), Rapidity (2) Edit: I'm coming up on the final Adventurer battle and my whole left arm is tired from mashing the Z and X keys, so I'm gonna take a longer break before I further test this ridiculous meme build.

I just had a double blood of sorbero pike runned made it to chaper 4 adventurer fight and died to archer, the run had me laughing tho, I got my first blood of sorbero in the first chapter in a chest room on my first room and had it doubled in chapter 2 before the second adventurer fight, I had 5/4 in excessive bleeding from a blood drinking sword, vamp necklace, and one other item I cant remember, and I had the gold sword as well, elder ent died in a few seconds

So I recently got back into Skul for the update and you seem rather experienced. If you notice certain skulls are programmed where dashes counts as attacks. For example skele-pike has this text. So my question would be whether or not dash enhancements and basic attack enhancements stack for specific skulls like this. Or does one overide the other?

Pike is a VERY unique and niche case when it comes to dashes. As he upgrades his basic attack is treated as a dash attack. Due to this items that are supposed to exclusively activate for dashes like the Thorny Pauldrons will work for his basic. When it comes to every other dash attacker (mostly power skulls) their dashes damage is enhanced by raw damage boosts the same as their basic. Some items like the Thorny Pauldrons will specify dashes to trigger an effect. Another example for Pike is Kirion which has both a dash and basic attack effect. Kirion will still selectively use the attack effect for Pikes basic even after he's become Legendary. So you can't trigger Kirions dash attack by basic attacking with Pike.

@@Beelz55 So... In the end its based on the item itself and not the skull. Which means the item itself separates the stats based on "normal" skulls? Like if an item boosts basic attacks, it wouldn't say boost pike or grave digger dashes despite being attacks, and vice versa?

Another note I've learned to do is benefiting my main skull while using another skulls passive or effects. I won a run today because I used Dark paladins shield to keep my Sword skulls alive during the hero fight. Ps Nice Carleon Sword XD
