I had a 2010 Panamera 4S. Absolutely a magnificent car. My high pressure fuel pump went out, it was labor intensive and expensive. Be cautious of the remanufactured parts. The first one was no good. The job is so labor intensive, I suggest biting the bullet and getting one directly from Porsche. That's a job you don't want to repeat. Also, don't forget the cam bushing.

I would clean the engine and undercarriage to see if the bolt tightening helped. Then replace the tail light, do the front brakes, bump-stops and upper strut bearings. If after those items and the car is doing well, go after the hi-press fuel pump, and repair/replace the driver's door card. Give it a good detail and enjoy it!

Looks like you're missing a part - there are two (clean) screw holes at 12:36 (and you stick your hand in the gap between them at 12:37), then at 12:42 there's clearly something mounted in the same space on the driver's side. If needs be, take it off to find its part number, then reinstall it (assuming it's in good condition) and buy and install its passenger side equivalent. You'll probably find that engine movement reduces dramatically once it's braced on both sides.

I bought a 2012 high mileage Diesel Panamera from an independent dealer, also bought a warranty which I’ve used to the tune of around 2 grand GBP so can’t complain. Next job is to replace the electric oil pump in the gearbox which has failed (it only effects start/stop so not too bothered), I just need to find out if it needs coding with a Porsche diagnostic, if not it’s a relatively cheap fix.

I think they were more trying to get rid of him than scam him - probably didn't even look at the car properly and just listed a bunch of parts they'd expect needed replacement on a car of that mileage/age. Dealerships don't want to work on old cars, they prefer working on cars under warranty so they can just send their monthly bill to the manufacturer and get paid at the end of the month, no hassles.

honestly, finish the panamera first. When sorted out, the car will be a really nice daily driver. I currently have the Turbo model of the same generation as my daily and i could not be more happy with it. The early V8 Panameras in general are a good value imo, for not very much money you get decent power, good driving dynamics and a still good looking and quality interior. Only downsides are the maintainance costs obviously, but thats the price to pay for driving a porsche.

If you decide to do the work I would pull the fuel pump first. Depending on how it's designed and how well it's been holding up you could possibly just get away with the motor. One of the most expensive surprise items for older cars has to be the Xenon headlamp's height adjuster, it's sensor that has two arms and sits near the rear suspension, so basically a simple potentiometer with 2 swing arms. The prices however go depending on the car model and maker between $700 and $25 depending on how the stars have aligned. For my Nissan Maxima dealer wanted to have an eye watering $500 but I found a new OEM part for "only" $300 obviously for a reason these sensors are rarer then a rocking horse's apple in the junk yard.

These are shockingly reliable, any of the 1st gen V8 panameras don't have a ton of nagging issues. The V6 and the Audi stuff is much less reliable. I saw someone mention "bad PDKs" below, and that has not been what I've seen when researching these. It's super common for these to last a long time. The noise over bumps is likely the front suspension bushings. The upper control arms come as a unit. Replace the bushings in the front lower control arms, FCPeuro has a kit. Don’t buy the ones on rockauto, they’re junk. Also change the links and bushings on the sway bar. I tried the aftermarket stuff and it didn’t last 20k miles.

I would like to see the suspension and brakes done. What does it take to rebuild a high pressure fuel pump? Can you do it yourself?

I would like to see you fix the Porsche. Considering current car prices, new & used vehicles of all types are nearly out of reach for the average person. I would not mind a series focused on turning this budget luxury car into a nice, comfortable, reliable daily driver within reason. I need to put brakes on my 13 yr old C-class without breaking the bank. Some of what you mentioned about the cost of the Porsche pads & rotors peaked my curiosity interest & I would like to see a shade tree mechanic brake job replacing rotors & pads. Love the videos

Check out the OE manufacturer of the HP fuel pump. Did one on s friend's 2010 A8. Audi wanted $1500. I bought the correct NEW pump, OE manufacturer, for $300.

You know Sam this is probably the first car that you've gotten to like a real drivability in quite a while and you know what you picked a good one I truly like your pics on cars that you buy because then we're sitting there going you know I was thinking about buying a car just like that in if samcrac trying to fix it and if he can't fix it well then I guess it's probably not a great car. 🎉🎉🎉

I had a high pressure fuel pump fail on my Cayenne (V6), the dealer wanted $950 for the part. I found the part on Amazon (not OEM) for under $200. Worked just fine :)

I'd vote to keep the Panamera as a daily. I also just nabbed a mechanically totaled one too but in worse shape. Currently dealing with a failed PDK. Keep an eye out with yours being a higher milage one too, from my research I see that the distance sensor is a common failure point in them.

Let's see panamera finished Sam. But I find it hard to believe that a fuel pump sourced from another German vehicle couldn't be made to work or an aftermarket. I really like it when you get all MacGyver and stuff. 😎

My brother used to have a Boxster. It was engine out for all sorts of common things. He didn't have it long and traded it in on a Gen 2 Viper.

I'm loving the coverage of the Panamera. I have no interest in the Camaro but I would probably watch because I enjoy your videos. I replaced my high pressure fuel pump in my Cayenne with an OEM unit, not too bad. It's much easier than replacing the valve cover gaskets. Maybe try the remanufactured unit. I would love to see you replace the bump stops too.

BMW V-8's tend to have a similar timing guide issue. I think they won an award for engine design but that was way before the realized maintenance and has lead to what i believe to be the massive depreciation of the X5.

I bought a porsche macan but as I bought it new they gave me free services for years but these porsche dealerships in the US are just taking the piss over $2,000 for spark plugs and engine mounts for over $4,000 when they are clearly still fune this is just a rip off and they should be ashamed of themselves good work Sam for revealing this overcharging it's not a good look !
